to be honest, i only personally care about plotholes when they appear in writing i already have a bunch of other problems with. if i like something enough, i'll give it a pass/invent an explanation in my head. i can't find the exact quote, but roger ebert said something about this. to paraphrase: "the movie's problem wasn't [such and such inconsistency], its problem was that i was bored enough to be thinking about that."
rules for being in a fandom:
1) have fun and be yourself
2) we are all evil for being alive
A writer's relationship with their own work goes: this is genius, this is garbage, this is genius, this is garbage, i should never have been born, okay actually this line is good
proxy relationship not a trope to anyone else but me which is a shame. Does no one else care abt the beautiful dynamic potential of conducting an entire shameful affair with someone just to get closer to their partner...Indirect kiss through some other guy. Possibilities !
some dynamics under this umbrella (feel free to add more im gonna forget some)
a wants b, b is with c, and a cant have b, so a gets with c
a and b both want c so they form a relationship out of mutual Well You Also Know C So You Get It And Also You Are Close As I Can Reallt Get To Them
a and b both want Each Other but they dont believe they can do that (whether or not theyre right is frankly irrelevant!! i dont care if they are cursed or just stupid) so they use c as a vehicle for their relationship
"this sounds really toxic and objectifying"yeapppp. 👍
IMPORTANT ALSO THANK YOU PIPER !!

i want to do more things for me and not for my imagined audience
I’m coming to realize that being shy about ur writing is only ok in 2 scenarios
1) you have never posted anything ever, so everyone is super encouraging.
2) you are a Big Name Fan so you have a fanclub.
“I’m worried people wont like it”
(select response based on skill level of original poster)
beginner: I’m sure what you wrote is lovely! you should always share what you wrote, writing is a free space to share your ideas and yours deserve to be heard! I know its new and scary, but just try!
BNF: omg no, everyone loves everything you write! I’m obssessed with this fic of yours, and I read it every week. It’s actually so good I’ve been frothing at the mouth for your next chapters
average: *ignores comment* So anyways, here’s my own WIP
Hey, man, c'mere. Listen. Get in real close, this is important.
You're gonna make stuff again. You're gonna make stuff you're proud of. You're gonna make stuff you're excited to share. You're going to feel that overwhelming drive to create, not just the frantic I want to want to you're stuck in now. You're going to have awesome ideas, and you're going to make them into reality. You're going to create again. You're still an artist. You're still a writer. You're still home to the same passion you had before. You'll find it again. It's not gone. It's just resting. Let it rest. You're going to make stuff again. I promise.
Is there anything better than an awful little creature who speaks in a ridiculously formal register? I submit that there is not.
Actually they don't even need to be awful, just the other two attributes are enough
It's more a two out of three proposition. They can be an awful creature but not little, a little creature but not awful, or awful and little but not a creature – the incongruous formalism works in all of these cases. Optimally, of course, they are all three.
"youve already written that trope" yesss. i like it a lots. i will be writing it again. 1000 stories of the same trope over and over again for ten million years

yes i'm a beginner artist. yes i have been a beginner artist for the past 15 years. don't question it
there really is something about relationships between two people that are simultaneously relationships between three people (or more). you can interpret that however you want. secret identity love squares. two people but one of them is haunted by another person. two people but both of them are haunted by the same person. someone is possessed. literally just a throuple. when there's just two people in the room but they always carry someone else along with them. Something about it.
Always respect a fujoshi's dedication to writing yaoi even in the most romance hostile settings. A story could be called "the torture cube with four walls" and every fic would just open with 'it was common knowledge that the top left corner of the torture cube was reserved for love making ' like ok. of course.
Personally I much prefer when it's not that characters can't see a betrayal coming, but moreso when they make themselves blind to the signs. When they write off discrepancies. When they close their eyes and ears to anything that doesn't fit their image. When it's not only a betrayal of the other but also their own perception
I talked with someone who works in book publishing, and they mentioned they get a lot of AI slop these days. I asked how they know what's human-written, and they said that there's one thing that will reveal AI slop without error, and that's the author not knowing their own creation.
A real author can talk about their story for hours. They love to elaborate every character, every twist, every detail. Because those existed in their head long before they ever made it to the paper. They were loved before they were written.
AI slop wasn't. It was just vomited into existence.
Someone who generates their story with AI will never bond with their story the way real writers do. That's why they may not know what to say when they're asked why did the character do this, or even remember the scene in the first place. It's something they read, not something they wrote. And to a writer, those are not the same.
There's a unique bond between the creator and the creation. If your writing doesn't come of you, you'll always lack that.
I keep hearing soon we won't be able to tell. And perhaps, in a superficial sense, that's true. But there is a difference. It's not em dashes or repeated words. It's whether the story was made by someone who loves it and cares about it.
If the writer's eyes light up when asked why did the character do that? and they start their very own Ted Talk about that specific scene...
then it's real.

reblog if you have skilled writer friends and you're damn proud of them
Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.
We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.
The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.
Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.
Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.
There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.
Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.
We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.
Let OP talk, they’re absolutely right.
It really is crazy how fast people burn through things now. I saw people saying the Arcane fandom was dead only a few *weeks* after the last episode aired. Imagine being a fic writer working on a big fic for the show and seeing that. Or an artist working on a fan comic. Like, c’mon, people.
