the worst part of "you'll understand when you're older" is that you really do understand when you're older

The second worst part is, once you get older, you find yourself saying "you'll understand when you're older" with Full Comprehension of how fucking annoying you're being right now, but also knowing that it's all you can say.

The third worst part is that once you get older, sometimes you understand why something was done a certain way, but you still disagree with it and in fact are now more upset because you've learned the "why" is some combination of racism and sexism

"terminally ill people should be allowed to choose to die if they feel it is the best decision for them" and "euthanasia can easily become eugenics" and "we should provide support for depressed and suicidal people" are statements that can come into conflict but should all be respected

also “offering euthanasia to people who can’t afford actual treatment is murder”

I just got on the elevator with Maggie and some other guy I've never seen before in my entire life. None of us said anything getting on but he hit my floor button and then his. He just knew what floor we were going to. With such confidence. Said not a word.

I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything

i'm beginning to think there's no 'marxist materialist' explanation for the uniquely demented and sinister aesthetic trappings of imperial technology in the modern age - it's all just one large victory lap around paranoid schizophrenics, who were all mostly proven right in the end. i really thought the point of "being lgbt+ doesn't absolve you of racism as a white person" was that white people arent absolved of racism by being marginalized but it really seems like people think other marginalizations make it okay. no being disabled doesn't do it. no being poor doesnt do it. we need to fight against racism actively no matter what.

"i ate too many cookies" is truly an ageless problem. an unlearnable lesson.
