he knows how to work a crowd of them because he was one of them once, and because he worked beside justine. he views death as just. death. its nothing special to him. he doesnt even celebrate it when he kills someone. he may feel satisfied by how it makes others feel, but other than that its irrelevant to him.

when he kills marcus, its just. wow that was easy. and he moves on. he asks about haluki being killed just. for whatever. so he can continue with his plan. when he learns alex (specifically alex btw this ones special) was hit with the lethal scatterclip, he doenst really think much of it. which makes sense because a) hed already gone thru alex "dying" and b) he believed it was alexs fault he was condemned. when arija dies too!!! he was smiling over the sounds of them. he doesnt actually care about the deaths themselves he jsut gets satisfaction from the pain it causes others. which is reall understandable. he doesnt understand grief entirely. when he had dreams (or at least it was implied he does right?) about alex, he sees it as torment. not grief. he tris his hardest to push it out of his head. but like. thats why evas death specifically interests me. granted im reading island of fire rn so i cant go too in depth and i cant guarantee im correct but this is like. the first time he really genuinely sees the consequence of death. and. uhguhguhg. the first time he has to look death in the face because he never MEANT to kill her

WHICH WHICH GOES BACK AROUND. TO THE THEME OF AARON NEEDING CONTROL. WHEN HES NOT!!! IN CONTROL!!! HE GETS STRESSED!!! FIRST BOOK. THE IDEA OF HAVING DREAMS HE COULD NOT STOP SCAREDHIM. HE WAS NOT IN CONTROL!!! WHEN ALEX WAS ALIVE AND TALKING TO HIM!!! HE WAS NOT IN CONTROL!!!!

When he gets thrown out of the university the first thing he does is seek control. and then he holds marcus's robe over alex's head and gets frustrated when alex doesnt open it because to HIM he liked the idea of that control. having the control of marcus's death over alex's head. (technically it never said frustrated but he instantly went back to being upset. i think that wouldnt have happened if alex had given him the reaction he wanted)

he had a lot of control over quill in island of legends, and also a lot of control over eva (i mean. mostly. when he didnt he just up and threatened to kill her LMAO) when he went to the jungle he had NO control. and when panther kills eva, NO CONTROL!!!!! NONE!!!!! Which i think is one of the reasons it was such a shock to him.

also kind of a reach but wehn marcus died he was calm up until it was over and he started yelling bc he couldnt see I ODNT KNOW!!!!!! I THIK ITS SO INTERESTING.

- The Night Nurse’s character development, confronting her very black and white beliefs, only to realise the contradictions of her new role with these peculiar boys.

- Crystal fucking up while she processes her traumatic upbringing, and finding out how the deeply lonely privileged child and the black girl who holds the keys to her generational and communal power coexist within herself.

- Niko, sweet Niko, who’s the most surprising and loveable character of all, and who gets to explore her own experience with death and chosen families, because it’s a part of being human.

- The Cat King reflecting on his own past and improving and helping the heroes, or maybe just carrying on being a chaotic demi-god.

- Jenny’s backstory and how she finds some meaning into being the father figure to this group of teenage idiots, because no one else could possibly understand them.

- Tragic Mick learning to embrace his curse because there are good things about being human.

- Monty’s experiencing freedom now Esther is gone, and how scary and exciting and lonely it is to decide your own dare when you’ve spent your whole life cared for and controlled by someone else.
