there’s nothing i hate more than when you bitches write the sweetest characters known to man as this aggressive, manhandling barbarian.
in other words, there’s nothing i hate more than when you bitches MISCHARACTERIZE a character to fit your sexual smut fantasy when you know damn well they’d never do that or behave that way because it doesn’t fit their character.
and i’m not saying these “freakier” (i guess?) smut fics aren’t okay or anything, im just saying as an author step 1 is understanding your character, and for me personally (this is MY OPINION) good, developed personalities and characters really sell a fic for me. i feel like there’s a level of disconnect with some smut authors where you either:
a) don’t understand the character you’re writing about. which, this is a whole other topic because why are you writing THE most intimate possible scenario and you don’t even understand how this person would behave…?
b) you understand the character and you disregard their values and personality so you can bend them to fit your fantasy
the example i gave earlier of sweet characters being written as aggressive is just an example and this can be true with all kinds of other characters with different personalities aswell this is moreso a general statement about characterization in fanfiction than commentary on a specific trope.
is this a hot take? pls don’t cancel me i know its FANFICTION at the end of the day but i hope someone out there agrees or at least understands?
