Here’s another face motion capture test! This time Zavala giving his classic Valus Ta’aurc mission speech.

This was my first body motion capture project. The body movement is a bit rough but it’s much harder to get convincing mocap of a whole person compared to just the face when on a low budget! I’ll improve it with practice though.

The face was done with my usual method of face capture - a phone attached on a bicycle helmet using a selfie stick - while the body was captured with an old Kinect V2 and the free version of Delicode’s NI Mate.

Inspired by the blue butterfly from Life is Strange, with a few variations on my storefronts as I just couldn’t decide on a single final piece.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything! I’ve been caught up in a lot of stuff, but I’m still working on art here and there.

I noticed a couple of comments on my Supa Hot LiS gif when it was shared around, which dismissed it by claiming that it was motion captured (why would that devalue it as art anyway? 😅). Given that I spent a couple of months painstakingly copying the original material and still wasn’t happy with it, that was quite flattering! But it got me thinking, maybe I can do some DIY mocap without access to an expensive dedicated studio...

A while ago I started trying to remake Chloe Price from Life is Strange in a more photorealistic interpretation. I only managed her boot before other projects took my attention, but I’m still happy with how it turned out and would like to continue at some point!

Left is one of the many references I used, from some website I don’t remember. Middle is the original model from the game. Right is my new one :)

It was modeled and rendered in Blender and the materials are entirely procedural - meaning they’re generated from nodes rather than manually painted, and can be rendered at any resolution without loss of quality. Figuring out the stitching was a fun challenge too! Although one thing I’m really not happy with is the white line at the top, which could use some work to look more natural.

This was a ton of fun to make! I hand-animated each character in Blender and rendered it in Cycles. You can check out a side-by-side comparison with the original here, as well as a behind-the-scenes look here.

No animals were harmed in the making of this art, but some fruit and veg certainly was.

I don't usually play with my food, but I had this idea for a stupid play on the phrase, and I had to do it... I really enjoyed creating the little pieces, sticking them on the apple/onion and posing the scene!

I had a lot of fun decorating Rachel’s bedroom to be Christmas-themed! Getting the Santa gown to work was harder than expected but I think it was worth it.

Finished my line art drawings of Chloe and Rachel! They may look basic enough, but it took me a long time to get the form just right and capture their distinctive features in a simplistic style.

Here, have some cheesy product placement photos of it being printed, because this doesn’t really work as a wallpaper

The Nik Collection for Photoshop was a lifesaver in making this look much better than it originally rendered in Blender.

It was fun face painting these great characters for this fan art!

This idea popped into my head and I tried to recreate it as best as I could, using a combination of hacky Blender techniques.

After playing this puzzle game, I noticed that the pattern was kinda aesthetically pleasing. So I made it into a thing.

Simple vector graphic, inspired by a little tutorial in the Binding of Isaac game.
