Anaïs Gallagher: "My parents didn't know what a Ucas point was."
Saturday May 16 2026, 12.00pm BST, The Sunday Times
the sunday times published an interview with anaïs and meg today and it's cute, so I thought I'd share it on here <3 full article under the cut, but here are a few highlights:
meg about anais:
"She’s an influencer — I don’t understand what she actually does, but she’s completely independent. She lives a normal life in a not-very-glamorous place next to a railway track. Her dad pays her rent but she doesn’t get an allowance from either of us. She’s very bright and articulate."
"She gets on with her dad and her Uncle Liam, and the cousins are all friends too."
anaïs about meg & noel:
"How do you rebel against crazy parents?"
"I remember going to a friend’s house when I was applying for university. Her parents were devising a plan to get her the most Ucas points. I tried to explain this to my mum and dad and they were, like, 'What the f*** is a Ucas point?'”
"The stamina of my parents and their friends in the Nineties was incredible. I know all the stories but I can’t equate my parents with them, especially my dad, who stopped doing drugs before I was born. He was always a really great girl-dad. I was obsessed with One Direction and he made sure I got tickets."
"My personality is more like my dad’s, a bit standoffish, guarded, true to myself. I’m working on being more flexible."

BBC Radio 1 - 1997: The love edition
Can't believe that so many seminal Noel & Liam quotes are from the very same interview, either Noel's life + music crisis poured it all out of him, or the good moments are just indeed that good BTS.
Naturally, they were (allegedly) drunk. Liam wasn't supposed to show up but he changed his mind last minute, my headcanon is that he missed Noel judging from how well they got along that day.
I'm very friendly to my bed, I love my bed, and my bed loves me.
(Interviewer says Liam only gets better, Noel complains Liam doesn't show up for B sides recordings, Liam says he had a sore throat, and somehow, this comes to this.)
Love-love-love. Liam twists exhibition (oasis photo thing) into expedition and Noel's bullying turns into a live fantasy of marching down the south pole wastelands together to build heart shaped igloos, also Liam's shy. And fighting for his life.
There we have it, a recorded (half) confession.
Okay so here I find the "as long as ... for a couple of quids" holds some meaning as Noel goes a little rigid saying no. Can't ever meant this. but I can't for the life of me understand Liam.
Also Liam clears out that inspiration entails for him listening and understanding him without rushing into ill-made judgments and it's palpable he's at his limits with the media. Coincidentally the day after this interview he was tracked down by journalists, asking him if he had regrets over what he said, because apparently he swore too much and had people clutch on their pearls all over the UK.
Supersonic quote but in full. Mad for it, Noel says.
I'll be a really good uncle to Liam's child.
I could sum this one up with Pardon? but -- "that man is a bigger man than I am, why, it has nothing to do with you, but he has to deal with life and with somebody like me on top of everything else" yet by the end of that year it had all gone to flames. Also audio proof they did give each other birthday presents, not lost on me this one.
Noel truly cares about Liam's opinion but won't show it (nothing new ik) However that giggle at the end has my wonders.
Bonus:
If there is one member of a sound crew for whom I will always reserve the greatest sympathy, it is the monitor engineer. He's the guy who has to face such subtle criticisms as, 'It sounds like shite up here! Sort it out!' Until recently, a thick-skinned man by the name of Jacko was the long-serving engineer responsible for delivering Oasis cranium-melting levels of volume on stage. At Maine Road in April, he told me: "It's deafening on stage, but that's what they want, and they are the instructions I have. I measured the volume of Noel's guitar sound in America by standing just behind him with a meter, six feet from his amps, and it was 121 dB. I keep telling them that they're all going to go deaf before long if they carry on with such an incredibly loud on-stage sound, but they're not having it so what can you do?"
(Sound on Stage, November 1996)
I happen to have this one poster on my wall and...
😳
I can't do this today tiktok
he thinks of him as his angel child :( that he's in love with... devastating
he really does think of his brother as his angel child that he's in love with.. which is why oasis stands for Observed Acts (of) Soulmates (and) Incest Sexfiends btw...

[Noel] flicks through Oasis’ back pages to recall where he was, who he was, and what he was trying to say as each one was released: Definitely Maybe - "Unemployed, broke." What’s the Story? (Morning Glory) - "Same." Be Here Now - "The soundtrack to my bloated, cocaine, alcoholic madness." Standing on the Shoulder of Giants - "Another soundtrack… semi-addicted to downers, still drinking loads, feeling a bit sorry for myself." Heathen Chemistry - "The youth club album featuring the new boys and I was in love."

I love the beautiful ambiguous plausible deniability of this.
they were going so hard in 2002 it drives me crazy. liam was acting like a real proper boyfriend to noel, he wanted to be his man sooooo bad. i think they might have been really trying, at least for a couple months, before shit hit the fan
noel saying that heathen chemistry was him "in love" and liam saying "today 16 years ago / it was you and i for the last time." i think that era had been the first and last time noel let himself and liam be fully and unreservedly in love :(
