religion HCs for the chamber choir?
most parts of this were stolen from @ocdsaraberry (sorry!)
once again tapping the button "saint cassian is the ONLY school in uranium and some of its students only attend due to a lack of options".
canonically jewish, catholic and buddhist simultaneously
ethnically catholic through her mom and ethnically jewish through her dad
but of course her parents went in the other direction and didn't raise her to be religious.
she sees religion as another competition just like she does with everything else.
she's also afraid of death, because why else would someone have THREE religions simultaneously?
after the accident, however, her relationship with her catholic faith becomes a bit strained since she's genuinely trying to stick to some ideals she claimed to stick to but didn't.
doesn't help that she's clearing up misconceptions on buddhism.
also she's pretty strictly on kosher. except that she breaks it when eating pizza (this girl needs her anchovies)
his taoist grandma affected his mom's ideals more than his non denominational grandpa, and his mom passed on her ideals to him.
which is why both of them mostly pray to their ancestors instead of going to church.
their devout catholic father was out of the picture before they were even born.
thank god for that, because otherwise he would absolutely suffer going to church on christmas instead of having actually fun holiday traditions.
having to attend mass for years after enrolling in saint cassian definitely affected the way they think though. even if it's only a little bit.
catholic, but passive with religion.
her family doesn't go to church often, so it was practiced more as a social/community thing.
they're pretty chill with religion but sometimes they do question certain problematic beliefs.
that being said her parents enrolled her in saint cassian because all her friends were there, not because there was no other choice.
agnostic as far as labels go.
wasn't raised religious but grew up with it his whole life regardless
their relationship with it is quite okay to say the least despite not believing in any specific religion.
believes in hard science more than anything that contradicts it
but that's not to say he's certain that god doesn't exist because it doesn't matter to him that much.
religion is one of many things that is super fascinating to them
he would be very into learning about it but on some level he views it through a scientific lens as well (as in the psychology in theology)
very very much respects other people's faiths and doesn't think science and religion are mutually exclusive or opposites to one another
jewish. it just feels right.
passive with religion though. practices more so out of respect for tradition and his bio family than personal faith, so he's a bit more lenient with himself than ocean.
like sure, he's not on a kosher diet but he still recited the mourner's kaddish for a year straight after his mother died. (i know it's only 11 months, but his ADHD made him lose track of time and he ended up reciting it for another extra month.)
oh he was SO frustrated and confused when he was sent to a catholic school against his will.
something i like in the choreography for talya in the 2016 off-broadway production is the imagery of a chuppah. of course he would imagine being wed under a canopy.
odesa (where he's from) has quite a lot of jewish heritage too.
'mykhailo' (his full name) is of hebrew origin and 'bachynskyi' sounds yiddish perhaps??
atheist as far as labels go.
again, she was not raised religious and didn't understand a thing until she started attending saint cassian.
ezra is canonically an atheist so I think penny is one too.
no matter how much they talk to people (i.e. tammy) and learn about it and go to mass they don't understand why they should be catholic.
she's pretty certain that tammy is the only catholic person she knows who actually sticks to the good ideals.
