logan was formed somewhere deeply rooted in thomas's mind. wires and plugs (which were actually veins and nerve endings and such) acted like a 3d printer of sorts, building up logan's organs, skeletal structure, facial features, etc, as thomas's logic and knowledge grew day by day. of course, eventually, logan would seperate from these connections and grow up as the side he is today, but there's still a section in his room dedicated to essentially resetting/rebooting himself with those same plugs and wires when his functions are significantly malfunctioning/when he's weaker after a long day (hence the title on the drawing itself!)

the square-like plates on his face from previous drawings are actually scars from different entry points for the plugs, which is also why they don't go away since they're reopened so often :-)

there's also risks and side effects from these ‘rebooting sessions.’ the most common being memory loss (usually short term.) most of the time, logan is able to quickly regain said lost memory, but there have been instances where he's forgotten places, facts, and even people in thomas's life that he'd have to essentially re-learn about before anything else.

I also imagine this connects with the orange side, where he knew its name, its appearances, etc: but after a reset, he completely forgot about it. and with how mysterious the orange side is now, he couldn't really get those lost memories of it back. (#hauntingthenarrative! who cheered!)

the plugs and wires are actually able to be used on the other sides for the same reasons (unstable functions, stress, etc.) but also have the same risk of memory loss. if used too strongly, or too much, they'll go back to square 1 of their development as a whole, which is why they don't use it as much as logan does.

extra: logan makes sure to lay out objects from his room on a table to quickly remember small details/habits/characteristics of himself, as also shown in the art ^^

Roman skidded down the hallway, barely managing to avoid clipping his shoulder on the corner. “Logan! Virgil! Logan! Virgil!”He was repeating two of his roommates’ names like it was some kind of chant. By the time he found them in the living room, they had long been expecting him.

“What?” Virgil asked, an eyebrow raised.

“I have news. Very weird news!” He said, nearly vibrating where he stood.

“Okay? Then what is it?” Logan asked, looking up from his book. 

“I just got off the phone with Patton. He’s bringing someone home for dinner!” “...And? He’s adorable. It’s not surprising he’d meet someone.” Virgil said, shrugging and going back to his phone. 

Logan followed suit, returning to his novel.

Roman huffed. “He said he’s bringing his girlfriend.”

That actually stopped them in their tracks. Both of them turned back immediately. 

“What? Oh my god - next time lead with that!” Virgil said, fully dropping his phone onto the couch.

“I sprinted here. Cut me some slack.” “Maybe he’s recently discovered he’s bisexual?” Logan mused.

“Without mentioning it to any of us? And he’s been out as gay since we were in school. I don’t think that just changes overnight.”

“Did he say anything else? About… her?” “I asked a few questions after he asked if we’d mind him bringing someone over. Her name is Janice.”

“Janice?” Virgil repeated. “What else did you find out?” 

“Uh… They met a few nights ago. When Patton was walking home from spin class.” “I still say he needs a car,” Virgil muttered. “He has to pass that big graveyard on the way home.” “Stay on target.” 

“Sorry. It just creeps me out.” 

“What else?” 

“Umm… they’ve been going on dates. Yesterday it was antiquing, today the art museum. He seems really smitten.”

They paused, those weren’t Patton’s usual locales.

“She must like old things? I don’t know. He said they mostly bought clothes while they were antiquing. Maybe she’s just into vintage stuff? You know Patton would go anywhere to make someone happy.”

“I guess that’s romantic?”

“But he also said-”

The lock clicked, making them all freeze.

Patton’s voice drifted in from outside as the door opened. “Here we are! Come on in, you can meet everyone!” And then Patton stepped inside, beaming and tugging someone along behind him by their gloved hand.

There was the person in question.

Tall. Elegant. Dressed in a dark formal suit like something out of an old portrait. Closing a parasol despite the setting sun. 

Their skin was pale enough to make Virgil look downright sunkissed, and their eyes were a deep, unsettling red.

Several details should have been immediately concerning. But none of them seemed to even remotely register as they became hung up on one very particular thing.

They presented very masculinely.

But the last thing they’d ever do was be rude.

“Oh! You’re all here, perfect!” Patton said brightly. “This is Janus!” 

Janus gave a small, polite bow, removing his hat as he did so.

“It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” Janus’s voice was deep, with the faint edge of an unfamiliar accent. There was a glimpse of teeth when he spoke - bright white, a little too sharp.

Logan recovered the most quickly. “Likewise. Might I ask your pronouns, if you don’t mind?” Janus raised a brow, glancing at Patton like the question was a bit confusing.

“He/him.” Patton answered for him, looking a bit thrown as well.

The three of them blinked, silence filling the space for a few long moments.

Someone had to break eventually. 

It was Roman. 

“Patton, you told me that you were bringing home your girlfriend.” He blurted out. Patton blinked, then finally truly broke the silence by laughing, hard.

When he managed to stop, he was still smiling brightly.
