He's a bad kid. He's convinced that he is. Good kids don't hurt people
Wants The Father to love him, sees him as a father figure
The Tree is the only one in Eden who knows that he's a kid
Is almost completely nonverbal when regressing
Has no toys or stuffies or childish things so he mostly sits in silence and imagines a childhood from the stories he's heard from before the Quiet Rapture. This is fully encompassing when he's in prison
tends to regress maladaptively immediately after killing for and fertilizing the tree
when he has to have sex he always always thinks that it's a mistake, that he's too young for it
He hugs his pillow and rocks a lot, trying to self soothe
He fiddles with whatever small things he can get and gets angry at himself when he's big, either getting rid of or destroying whatever he had

Grace doesn't get it, at first, just thinks that Simon's being weird in a new and interesting way, only figuring it out when Rocky calls him a pebble
There's still nothing to play with but Simon makes some stuffed things (no animal references at first) out of the padding from extra pillows and clothes
Draws. A lot. Apologizes for wasting resources. The first time Grace sees The Eel is in those drawings
Gets to see children's movies for the first time and cries a lot
Grace gets to teach him all the things he didn't learn on Eden like they're in class and Simon gets more and more comfortable with talking
Grace thinks Simon sees him as a parent until he learns about how desperate Simon was for The Father's approval. Then he works on getting Simon to see him as a different type of Caregiver
Simon keeps trying to pay Grace and Rocky back for taking care of him, with labor, with fasting, with anything, and they won't have it

Rocky loves Pebble time because Simon cuddles the xenonite ball a lot. Grace gets jealous until he learns that Simon thinks cuddling up with a human means they're going to have sex and he's scared
Simon locking himself in the bathroom, a storage closet, or the airlock when the feeling of being a bad kid is too much and he needs to be punished for it, only for Rocky to hear him panicking and getting Grace to help
