the thing about "people have talked about it you're just 21" is that it's not really "young people are stupid" it's more "if you come into an academic discussion you should know what people have said on the matter lest you talk out your ass"

And like who the fuck is this guy [gestures to reflection in mirror alone in bathroom
I just love barking so I really couldnβt give a fuck if this is the right tree or not haha
im a fucking sucker for the βcharacter gets so badly injured that they canβt think clearly and start calling for help in a distressingly vulnerable way.β characters who start using nicknames for their friends they havenβt used since they were kids. characters who start begging for their brother they havenβt seen in years to be there. characters who would usually use their parentsβ names or call them mother/father/etc crying out mama when they go down. u understand.
Characters who are so closed off abouf their past calling out a name their new friends have never heard before

i can't express how absolutely important it is that when you make an edgy, brooding, badass character who's tough as nails and good at fighting and whatever, you HAVE to give them at least one reason to become completely helpless and pathetic. you have a panic attack quota to fulfill.
the easiest way to do this is ptsd, but you get bonus points if that ptsd can be manifested as weird and interesting phobias, anxieties, or habits that then inform how/what kind of relationships that character forms. it can be something unexpected and specific like "a fear of ladybugs" or something that affects their daily lives, like "they feel extremely nauseous every time they ride in a car."
best example of this i can think of is lon'qu from fire emblem: awakening. he's a badass, moody, shadow-the-hedgehog-type swordsman who keeps to himself. introduced as someone who "dislikes women," but you realize that isn't not misogyny, but a literal irrational phobia of and anxiety around women (gynophobia), which stems from a deeply traumatic childhood incident where his female friend was killed by bandits while trying to protect him. he blames himself for her death and developed a subconscious and unhealthy fear of women (which other characters assume to be sexism), afraid that any woman who gets close to him will suffer the same fate.
as a result, each of his romance options present an interesting and unique way to deal with this phobia and trauma and develop his character. if you pair him with lissa, he has a tropey little bodyguard/princess storyline and learns that he's strong enough to protect the people he cares about. if you pair him with someone tough like sully, he'll learn that female bonds can strengthen him too, and that he can rely on them for help. if you pair him with someone terrifying like tharja, he'll learn that women like her are capable of taking care of themselves. it's a really neat character writing exercise.
On the northwest Belgian coast, there is a little known tradition: shrimp fishing on horseback. The activity consists of what its name describes: fishing shrimp on a horse. In the 15th century, shrimp fishing on horseback was still practised on the North Sea coasts in France, the Netherlands and even the South of England. This activity represented an extra revenue needed for the household. Nowadays there is only one place in which it is still ongoing: Oostduinkerke, a sub-municipality of the municipality of Koksijde.

Iβve been showing my hamster your blog and it seems to really like it, biting at the screen. I also have a hamster(the small animal kind) too and he seems to like your blog as well

Huge fan of these DIY IR goggles which appear to be made of a smart phone duct-taped to a pair of safety goggles and zip-tied to multiple straps.
Clearly the engineering prowess of a scientist used to working with a USAmerican public school budget

Revolting little machine I hope someone guy fawkeses you too.
(Context: was trying to find the text of a version of the Guy Fawkes poem which ends 'are we glad that they stopped him or not?' Was not expecting this thing to run defence for the UK parliament 400 years ago)
Btw, if you ever wanted an indicator of the ideological censorship that now exists, and how pervasive it has become? The poem I was looking for, with its implication that maybe it might not have been a bad thing to blow up parliament way back when, was published in a children's book two decades ago. Without incident. Now I can't even SEARCH for that poem without receiving a telling off for its contents.
i know the way people talk about their pets now is probably how weβve been doing it for all of history. a cat owner in ancient rome saw their cat lounging on the dining pillows and commented βhe thinks himself to be the senator claudius π€£β

You misused thou/thee in a joke post and provoked my ire.
for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding β some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.
