How about: very messed-up situation post-canon or late-canon in which Nie Huaisang through time travel? resurrection? develops some kind of relationship with a Meng Shi who is unaware of what has happened/will happen after her death. Nie Huaisang is processing his weird feelings through this surrogate Jin Guangyao / mommy figure / pretty girl who is professionally good at appreciating his art collection and thinks it's very cool that he's a cultivator. The audience is creeped out but we are also processing our feelings.

Meng Shi is gradually finding out what the deal is. She is creeped out. She is very used to performing emotional labor but what the fuck, this is about her and her life, what does she do? Can she have some agency? More feelings are processed.
