In both cases, a great injustice perpetrated by the ancient Roman Empire in the 1st century CE, for the explicit purpose of suppressing Jewish autonomy in Judea. In both cases the tragedy becomes a focal point around which the new religion was brought into existence (Christianity / Rabbinic Judaism). In both cases the responsibility of the Roman government is conveniently brushed aside and a persecuted minority group is blamed instead — Christians say the Jews killed Jesus, Zionists blame Arabs / Muslims for sacking the temple.

Islam did not exist in the 1st/2nd centuries. The temple built over the ruins in ancient Judea c. 135 was a Roman pagan temple to Jupiter.

500 years later, after the Roman capital moved to Constantinople and the empire had adopted Nicene Christianity, it was still the Roman government barring Jews from entering Jerusalem.

When the first Islamic Caliphate conquered Jerusalem in 637 CE, it was the caliph ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab who invited exiled Jews (living in Palestine btw) to finally resettle in the city. Ka‘b al-Ahbar, a Jewish Yemeni Rabbi who’d converted to Islam, advised ‘Umar on the importance of restoring the Temple Mount as a place of worship.

PB and others like her imagine al-Qubbat as-Sahra, (the Dome of the Rock), as “a Mosque (evil! bad!) that the Muslims (derogatory!) built to humiliate the Jewish people!!” In fact it was built centuries after the Roman “humiliate the Jews” temple had risen and then fallen into ruin. The Muslims restored the desecrated site to a place of worship for all followers of the God (swt) of Moses and Abraham (pbut). The pact of ‘Umar made it clear that Jews are welcome in their ancestral homeland; and that the lives, property, and religious practices of Christians and Jews should be safeguarded under the new Islamic rule.

On April 7th, 2026, people stopped being born. On the same day, people stopped dying, and people stopped aging. ☆ who’s ready for some football?
