I think the elders are less, like, granduncles who personally raised them and more just Lan cultivators who were older than the twin jades, were with them at Nightless City, and who LXC knew had a good relationship with LWJ. And I think LXC brought them not only for the moral authority backup but also because he was prepared to have to drag LWJ back to Cloud Recesses by force. Like I think he was hoping that the implied threat of “hey, I’ve got 33 expert warriors with me, so do as you’re told” would be enough to get LWJ to comply.

(Sidebar but I feel we don’t recognize enough how impressive it is that they failed to drag him off. I guess he had the advantage that they were probably holding back a lot more but still, damn.)
