It’s extremely disappointing even Planet zoo is caving to the pressure of anti caps especially with the focus of planet zoo 2 focusing on-rewidling and sanctuaries/reserves. That is a perfect set up for a functioning sea pen and rehabbing whales and dolphins lol. Not like there is even animal shows to be “wrong” about only educational talks. At the very least with better base game aquatic systems there will be plenty of cetacean mods

If I designed the game, you would be able to build sea pens... but you would consistently have to upkeep the net, deal with storms, balance the budget with minimal income and increased operating costs since you're in the middle of nowhere, figure out how to care for sick animals that won't station, and prevent breeding without separating family members or using "chemical contraception." I think it could teach a lot about the feasibility of the projects.

And just like that, Stranded No More has popped up on my newsfeed again. I don’t know much about this new whale they’re fixating on, but here’s what they said in response to the professional opinion of a vet not recommending another heroic rescue effort.

Um….. uhh…. listen I’m neither a vet nor a human doctor, but who’s gonna tell them that triage is a thing in both kinds of medicine? And that there are definitely cases where doctors can and have refused to provide certain kinds of care on ethical grounds?

They are required to provide immediate emergency care yes, but they also very much can/do make the call on when to stop heroic measures. They're not just there to artificially keep patients alive at all costs irrespective of quality of life. They absolutely do consider whether or not the benefit of medical interventions outweigh the cost, and will refuse/recommend against them when they don't. Like... Do these people honestly think that doctors never have to tell patients/loved ones "I'm sorry but there's nothing more we can do besides make them comfortable. Trying X is very unlikely to work and will only prolong their suffering."

I cannot begin to imagine how difficult those conversations are for both veterinarians and human doctors. I also cannot begin to imagine how frustrating this is from a veterinarian's standpoint, seeing as vet med does not have the same level of research and development human medicine does, let alone in something as specialized as whale stranding protocols. It's not that they don't want to do anything, it's just that so often they literally can't.

I also cannot imagine being the one who has to make these decisions whilst dealing with backlash from self righteous idiots on the internet who couldn't be bothered to learn about basic medical ethics.

Wtf is wrong with these people!?

They are yet another group in the online animal rights/ethics space that's cultivated a following based on high motivation-low information. No really. Read their comment sections. It's telling that their fans are those who don't seem to have much hands on experience in animal care, while the people who are the most critical of them (who don't get blocked) are those who are actually professionally involved in marine mammal rescue spaces.

Joint statements from SeaWorld, Georgia Aquarium, Shedd Aquarium, and Mystic Aquarium released today (8 July 2026) confirm that the 30 belugas stranded at the shuttered Marineland Canada theme park in Niagara Falls, Ontario will find new homes at 5 different AZA-accredited institutions.

28 of the whales will be divided amongst SeaWorld San Diego, SeaWorld San Antonio, Shedd Aquarium, and Georgia Aquarium. The remaining two will journey to L’Oceanogràfic in València, Spain, which famously rescued two belugas from an imperiled aquarium in Ukraine last year. Mystic Aquarium will aid in the transport but will not receive any belugas themselves. SeaWorld Orlando will also not be receiving whales at this time.

CITES permits have been issued for the American transfers, and NOAA has issued authorization for the US-based facilities to receive the whales. Final health clearances must be approved by Canadian veterinarians before transports can commence. Upon the departure of these whales, as well as four Black Sea dolphins also on site, no cetaceans will remain in human care in Canada.

Below is the official statement from the Honorable Joanne Thompson, the Canadian Minister of Fisheries.

This is amazing news. These animals, previously facing euthanasia, will find new homes at highly regulated facilities with the experience and resources to provide for them.

And by the way, when the type of content you’re producing is influencing/actively encouraging your audience to harass wildlife so they can have a magical encounter just like yours, then you do not get to complain about zoos allegedly exploiting animals for entertainment. Seeing animals in the wild is not automatically more ethical than seeing them in zoological settings, nor are you promoting proper conservation education by denigrating the hard work that good zoos, aquariums and sanctuaries do.

You are not an expert in animal welfare just because you’re a photographer, let alone one whose brand is built off of blatantly anthropomorphizing animals.

Putting this here because while horses can create close bonds with others, the propaganda fed to us that horses are just as socially complex and connected to family groups as say humans or orcas just isnt true.

Horses are pro social to the extent that they will form social connections to other unfamiliar horses very quickly. It's a necessary survival skill for a prey animal that relies on numbers. They are frequently moving between herds naturally regardless of sex.

However a lot of "wild horse conservation groups" will feed you the idea that round ups and herd management are breaking up delecate family systems.

If horses were that socially complex we would have never been able to domesticate them. Being able to move members of a domestic population to other populations and have reliable breeding stock is one of the major prerequisites do deciding if an animal can be domesticated.

I think there’s a conversation to be had about how “animal rights activism” is generally considered the easiest form of activism because it allows one to disconnect themselves from overall societal issues, and it’s why many celebrities consider themselves to be animal rights activists, but due to a complete lack of research and complacency on what animal rights activism actually entails, most of these activists end up doing a lot more harm than good. They’re the people who will only focus on stray dogs and cats during natural disasters or genocides that kill thousands of human beings; or the people who boycott “kill shelters” and replace them with “no-kill shelters” despite the fact that this lack of understanding on how these shelters work directly leads to the deaths of more animals; or the people who replace animal products with “vegan alternatives” that have more impact on the environment than the original products; or the people who don’t understand why the natural next step in Greta Thunberg’s environmental activism was to advocate for Palestine.

Like, animal and environmental rights activism is so misunderstood by the people within the movement who are doing it for all the wrong reasons, and it’s mostly because they do not understand that animal rights and human rights are so intrinsically connected that you cannot seperate the two at all without watering down your activism into a complete nothingburger.

It’s also because they don’t do basic Google searches on how things work either, but that’s neither here nor there.
