this sort of kind of reminds me of this class i had a few years ago where we talked about boundaries, how to keep them, and how to make sure people near you are safe too. probably because i think about it most of the time lol
the instructor was this big tall kind of imposing man who commented on how this exercise was one of the only times he thought that was a good thing. he asked for a volunteer and had them stand a few feet away from the wall on one end of the classroom while he walked over to the one opposite them. it was a big room so he was pretty far away
âiâm going to walk towards you and talk to you about my son,â he explained, in a totally friendly and disarming way. âim just going to talk and maybe gesture a little and walk towards you, just talking! and when i get too close, all you have to do is tell me to stop and iâll stop. its ok! really! i wont be upset at all and this is just a class, iâll stop on a dime!â
and then he did exactly what he said he was going to, but very loud and walking kind of fast. the room echoed and everyone was watching. he hadnât lied at all, but it was just kind of a lot. the volunteer immediately took a step back and looked more guarded but didnât say anything until he was basically on top of her.Â
he stopped, and then he asked her âwhen did you WANT me to stop?â
she admitted that she was a little uncomfortable about how fast he was moving from the start, but halfway across the room is when she really didnt want him closer.
âyeah, i know! i was paying attention. i saw your nonverbal cues right away, but a lot of people who preface their actions with a speech like mine wonât. by constantly reassuring someone they can tell you to stop, the responsibility falls on YOU instead, in their eyes, and also makes you second guess using that to begin with! because you knew i didnt want to hurt you, or thought you knew that, the idea of telling me to stop, of suggesting i wasnât safe, made you second guess your gut and worry about my feelings. itâs good to check in like i did, but it doesnât mean you can stop being perceptive, and you have to keep in mind that just because you give them this tool doesnât mean theyâll feel comfortable using it. once you understand that, there will be a lot fewer cases of people âblowing upâ at youâ
This is a really important lesson
How to Backup your Tumblr
I was just semi-complaining that I was still looking for a decent way to backup my +6k posts without having to use paid services or even just wordpress (which has an import from tumblr tool that asks for permission to access your blog and also make posts), when I decided to actually put some effort into my google search.Â
Results were positive: I have successfully backed up my blog*Â
*By which I mean: everything that I have ever posted. Not included: drafts, queue, likes, followers, following, comments, notes, chat.Â
I followed this method (word by word), and now have a 450 MB folder on my computer with the name of my blog on it containing:Â
1. Folder âArchiveâ (contains .html files listed by month) 2. Folder âMediaâ (contains gifs and images, mine has +1k files in it; might contain also audios but I have no way of confirming that because Iâve never reblogged an audio post from this blog) 3. Folder âPostsâ (contains single .html files, each one a post; I have +4k files in it) 4. Folder âThemeâ (contains only my avatar, but it might be a matter of if you have personalized themes or not) 5. .html file âIndexâ (by opening it it will give you the archive of your blog organized by month; clicking on a month will open up the archive for that month, and youâll be able to read all the posts for that month as if you were on your blog**, except sans your theme graphic, with each page containing 50 posts)
**I can see gifs, links, embedded videos, tags, number of notes (but I canât open up the notes, clearly), text is also correctly formatted.Â
So yeah, in case anyone wants a very quick way to back up their blog, it took me less than 10 minutes.Â
P.S. I didnât have any issue, but to be on the safe side always check for spyware and virus threats before and after downloading anything.Â
this is actually really useful if you have an art blog full of years of work that you otherwise no longer have access to the original files. A lot of the art I have in the early days of my art blog are in that boat. I did this process JUST for that reason and I was pretty astonished at just how many pieces of media it backs up! (literally all of it) Drawings I didnât even realize were sitting in my archive due to having been posted to text posts or undercuts, or untagged for years! Itâs worth it if just for that, even if tumblr isnât shutting down or deleting your blog.
reference.Â
Thereâs also this:
Remember, web.archive.org, not the archive.org home page. The Save Page Now option is at bottom right.
FUCKING THIS POST ITSELF IS FLAGGED, IâM DYING! @staff YOUR BS IS KILLING ITSELF!!!!

Good Guy Freddie Mercury

working on my ds9 dnd builds
i started these forever ago and never got around to posting them here, have been workshopping them a bit on my dnd twitter. iâm aiming these builds for level 10 as of now, will probably make actual character sheets once the semester is done.
sisko - fighter 3 (battle master)/warlock 7 (the celestial). obviously the prophets are his patron. proficiency in cookâs utensilâs from student of war.Â
kira - paladin 10 (oath of vengeance). because you know our favorite major is all about fighting the greater evil and meting out that sweet sweet smite damage.
jadzia - wizard 10 (bladesinger). smart as fuck, but also likes to hit things with pointy things.
odo - druid 2 (circle of the moon)/rogue 8 (inquisitive). just enough druid levels to get those sweet sweet cr 1 wildshapes, but the real focus is on his detective skills.Â
worf -Â barbarian 5 (path of the ancestral guardian)/fighter 5 (battle master). wasnât sure where to split the levels on this one but i definitely wanted him to have a mix of that klingon ferocity and his keen tactical mind.
bashir - sorcerer 10 (divine soul). i know he should be a healer but letâs face it⌠our boy is not the cleric type. figured getting the gods to mess around with your kid is a good enough equivalent of genetic engineering maybe, and this way he still has healing spells.Â
quark - rogue 4 (thief)/bard 6 (college of lore). not gonna lie, i seriously considered college of glamour for him but i decided having access to cutting words was more in line.
oâbrien - artificer 10 (gunsmith). this is the only one i am breaking my âno UAâ rules for because they keep saying an official version will be released and otherwise thereâs really nothing good for an engineer besides maybe a forge cleric.
iâm working on other characters as well⌠iâm very torn for garak, not sure if he should be an assassin rogue or college of whispers bard. honestly no idea yet about ezri, whether i should just make her a wizard with a different subclass or go completely different (she wouldnât be bad as a cleric imo). jake is a child so letâs face it heâs probably level 3 at best by the end of the show.Â
Hey, unpopular opinion, apparently. But people donât just âhave pain for no reasonâ doctors say this all the time (especially to women and chronically ill people) and the truth is, Thats literally not possible. Even if your pains are psychosomatic (a word I hesitate to even use because of the way its used so often) there is a reason you are having those pains whether its mental illness, abuse, etc. If your doctor consistently tells you that âwell some people just have pain for no reasonâ get a new doctor. Thatâs a doctor who is not going to give a shit what your actual symptoms or experiences are.
I just wanna add to clarify the psychosomatic thing.
That word DOES NOT MEAN youâre making it up. It doesnât mean youâre imagining the symptom. What it means is that the symptom ISNâT DIRECTLY CAUSED BY ANY OF THE THINGS THAT WOULD NORMALLY CAUSE IT.
I fought to get a PCOS diagnosis for 2 and a half years. For the ENTIRE time I was fighting, I was dealing with 3 cysts that were not going away by themselves and eventually required surgery to remove. At one point close to the end of the battle, I suddenly went blind. I was visiting my parents and was standing on the veranda looking out over the tree we had planted in memory of my dog and suddenly I got one of the shooting pains that I was quite frankly used to at that point and my vision started to go dark. It was like the sun was setting while being completely hidden behind storm clouds but it was 2pm in the middle of Summer on a clear day. Within about 30 seconds I couldnât see ANYTHING. I was 27 years old and I was screaming for my mother.
My mum raced me to her doctor (he was a 15 minute drive away as opposed to 45 minutes to the nearest hospital) and he quickly worked out that there was nothing wrong with my eyes and what had happened was totally unrelated to them. Then he said it was psychosomatic and I freaked out, yelling that I was NOT making this up and I definitely wasnât imagining it. Very quickly he calmed me down and said he believed me and I had misunderstood. He explained that whatever was going on with my abdominal pains (he suggested PCOS which I hadnât even heard of at that point) had been ignored for so long that my body was starting to do things other than the normal pain response to try to draw my attention to the problem. My sight going was my body basically jumping around in front of me going âHEY ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME HELLLOOOOOOO??????â
He gave me some prescription strength painkillers and my sight started to come back as soon as they started to kick in. About 45 minutes after it started I could see well enough to walk around without help and within a day and a half I was back to normal. On top of that I finally had a scan booked to figure out what the hell was causing all the pain.
Psychosomatic symptoms are NOT imagined or fabricated or happening for âno reasonâ. Experiencing them DOES NOT make you a liar. It makes you someone who has been battling with something serious for so long that your own body has started to get impatient with you.
I completely agree. Thank you for sharing this.
Psychosomatic symptoms are literally your body flipping random alarm switches just to get any alarm blaring because youâve been ignoring the regular ones
CBC made a good documentary on adult ADHD and part of it really caught me off guard because i swear they repeated verbatim my life story for the past 3 years

GOFUNDME: SAVE OUR NAVAJO LANGUAGE
âI never learned my Navajo language and I was never inspired to learn it. Â As I got older, I realized how valuable our language is to the livelihood of our Navajo Nation. â -Dr. Shawna L. Begay
Our Navajo or DinĂŠ language is in danger of becoming extinct.  Help us create and develop the first Navajo-English educational media TV puppet show, âDinĂŠ BĂ NĂĄâĂĄlkid Timeâ which means âThe Navajo Movie Time.â  It will inspire and teach our youth basic language skills using media as a technology tool. Parents, grandparents, children and grandkids can learn to speak Navajo  fluently together within their own homes. Long-time friends and educators, Dr. Shawna L. Begay and Charmaine Jackson have teamed up to create this new TV pilot for an all-ages audience or for anyone who wants to learn the Navajo language.  With your support, itâll be the first educational Navajo and English puppet show that will teach and preserve the Navajo language and culture through digital media.
After several years of extensive research on the Navajo Nation, Dr. Begay recently completed her PhD from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas with her doctorate thesis, âDeveloping A Navajo Media Guide: A Community Perspective.â As project director, she quickly realized she was a pioneer on the topic.
âWhen I decided what topic to study I realized there existed very little research in Indigenous educational media, especially with our Navajo people,â stated Dr. Begay. Â âAs Navajo people, we have our own learning objectives and Navajo way of knowing is completely different for Euro-Western schooling. Â I decided that I had to research and develop our own curriculum guide that is meant to teach Navajo through media.â Dr. Begay and Jackson, co-writers of the show, developed the first 3-puppet characters and plan for many more. The pilot features Nanabah-a young Navajo girl, GĂĄh (Rabbit) and DlÇŤĚÇŤĚ (Prairie Dog) who will go on endless adventures learning about language, gardening, the environment and the importance of family values. Nanabah is fluent in Navajo and likes to teach children about life on the reservation with her animal friends and special guests. Â Children who want to learn Navajo will also be an important part of the show by interacting with Nanabah, her friends and storyline. Dr. Begayâs research concluded there exists very little research in the area of Indigenous educational media. Currently media is a very powerful tool that can be used to teach. She is cognizant of the digital age we live in and the opportunities to utilize media to revitalize the Navajo language. Â âStar Wars and Finding Nemo,â dubbed in Navajo, was a great place to start and it has garnered national exposure of our language. However, we need a show based on our own Navajo learning principals our ancestors set out for us to learn and live by. I donât think a non-Navajo, non-Native or non-Indigenous person can do that for us, nor should they. Â We, as Navajo, need to produce this show ourselves, if we are to be truly sovereign,â added Dr. Begay. Both educators, Dr. Begay and Jackson, of Naalkid Productions have been talking about this educational language project for about the past four years and still have a long way to go to finance their dream. âWith the support of Navajo TV Anchor Colton Shone, our team of Navajo artists, filmmakers, family and friends, this video pilot is a huge step forward,â said Jackson. Â âOur journey has just begun and the big next step is finding financial support to create a whole new puppet TV series.â We aim to raise $50,000 with this project which will allow us to continue with pre-production and production aspects of making this digital media project become a reality. Â We need your help to save our language by teaching Navajo to our future generations. Pre-Production: -Script writing for the pilot show -Puppet Development/Creation -Casting for puppeteers and other talent that will be on screen -Hiring of all key cast and crew Production: -Locations and permits -Rental of Studio space -Equipment: cameras, sound, lights, etc. -Cast and Crew budget
Despite all the notes on this post, theyâre still at $13,155 of their $50,000 goal.Â
Please keeping sharing and donate if you can!Â
The 'No Excuses' Study System to Get That A
I Â School DaysÂ
1. Show up to class a little early. Itâll give you time to set up, read over some old notes, put your water bottle/thermos on your desk, fill out your planner if you couldnât in the previous period(s), check your planner to see if you have something on that day etc.
2. Sit in the front or second row. Iâm serious, you will definitely benefit. Write detailed class notes. Pick whatever system works for you. I usually write my titles in red pen, notes in black pen, underline points that are repeated/emphasised, highlight keywords at home
3. If you have time at school, do as much homework as you can. If you know you have commitments that day, please for the love of your education do your homework at lunch. I know you might feel awkward, but your friends will understand.Â
4. When you get home, first list down all the homework received that day on a q card (cross off as you go). Then write the same tasks in your bullet journal, but as a daily spread. Use stayfocusd or self control for mac + leave phone in a different room. FINISH ALL OF YOUR HOMEWORK. If for some reason you couldnât complete a homework task, write it on a sticky note and place it on your wall. After homework is done, write your revision notes (flashcard the info as well). Place the notes in your accordion folder/binder. If you have some loose sheets at any point, place them in a âTo Be Filedâ box. Sort that out when youâre packing your bag for the next day.
5. Go through the flashcards made that day and the flashcards made on the previous days. List out all assignments/assessments on another q card with their due dates. This will come in handy later.
6. Pack your bag the night before. Remember your accordion folder + make sure your âTo Be Filedâ box is empty. Put water bottle in the fridge and make meals for the next day.
7. The next day, wake up early, complete any unfinished homework, go through flashcards again, read through revision notes, make lunch for the day, put laptop in bag, put food + water in bag, exercise (esp if you have commitments after school), shower, change, blah blah blah. Only do this if your schedule is packed, and in my case, this is a must.
II Â Weekends
1. On Friday nights, first off, do homework. You will thank yourself for it. Whip out that list of assessments/assignments and allocate half days to knock off at least two of these little assholes. Work ahead, you will feel much better.
2. Do your readings. For English, knock off some wider reading novels, for HSIE, knock off some textbook unit readings (two units ahead), for science, knock off some more textbook readings. Write summaries of each page. Type these summaries. Print these summaries. Place in accordion folder/binder. Flashcard the info. Spend like half a day doing this lmao.
3. Spend 1-2 hours going through the flashcards you made that week for each subject. This counts as studying my friend.Â
III Weekends When You Actually Have AssessmentsÂ
1. Due to your working ahead, homework completion and readings, you shouldnât be panicking too much. Get those revision notes and slot in the textbook readings notes. Highlight, annotate, read aloud, go through flashcards and get someone to test you on the content. Make sure you know all terms, formulae, key concepts, vocabulary etc etc
2. As for assignments, again due to your working ahead just print them out and heavily edit those little asshats. Then type the edits into the doc. Repeat this process four times. Then get someone to read it. Make sure all your assignments are on your USB + email them to yourself because you never fucking know tbh.Â
3. Youâll probs have to sacrifice your reading time but thatâs chill because the teacher/prof will probably be focusing on prepping you for the actual assessment + you gotta do what you gotta do.
SUMMARY
Seriously, just do your homework the day you receive it, write revision notes, do your readings, write notes on those readings, make flashcards, knock out assignments as soon as you know they actually exist, read every wider reading novel (analyse these novels), read your required readings (analyse this too), go over flashcards every morning/afternoon, make use of spare time in class, do homework at lunch if needed, stick to your schedule, buy coffee/hot chocolate in the mornings and put it in a thermos, keep a necessities pouch in your bag, keep your P.E shoes in your locker, use a planner, track your spending, wash your hair, brush your hair, go to commitments, attend school events, attend events youâre invited to, go shopping, watch movies, be kind to yourself, take bubble baths, light candles, listen to music, SLEEP, get that A and most importantly be proud of yourself.Â
10 July 2018
Reminder: Do not buy from Amazon or even open the website between 10-17 July 2018, in solidarity with the transnational strike.
Amazon workers in Spain have called for a transnational strike because Amazon has been avoiding accountability for its labour rights violations by merely shifting the work (and the human rights abuses Amazon inflicts on their workers) to non-striking countries, each time a strike occurs. If there is widespread striking transnationally, Amazon will have no choice but to recognize the strikersâ demands in order to keep their facilities functioning.
Our job as allies is to support the strike by avoiding using the Amazon website or purchasing anything from Amazon for as long as the strike continues. A mass boycott of the site, coinciding with the strike, will strengthen the workersâ bargaining position and could be crucial to Amazon workers gaining back basic rights in a variety of countries.
Explain this to your friends and family who might not have heard about the boycott or the strike or why itâs necessary.
Amazon workers are literally collapsing and sometimes dying in warehouses that do not all have climate control. A few years ago Amazon stationed ambulances outside their warehouses rather than just install AC to prevent mass heatstroke for their workers, but after media picked up the story they added AC to some â only some â of their warehouses.
These workers are forced into 10+ hour shifts during which they walk 10+ miles. Theyâre subject to a grueling pace and fired for minor mistakes. They are not allowed to sit down and are discouraged from using the bathroom, which is often so far away in the massive warehouse that there isnât time to use it even during their breaks. They can be fired for being ill, even with proof they were in hospital.
They are being paid so little and working such long hours â and sometimes, being charged so much by Amazon-arranged transport shuttles to take them to warehouses far from any housing â that some are forced to sleep under bridges or in the woods near their workplace. Longtime warehouse workers are saying theyâve never seen the kinds of exploitation and abuse that occurs in an Amazon warehouse.
This strike and the accompanying boycott are to pressure Amazon into giving their workers basic rights that every worker should have.
Do not visit Amazon.com between the 10th and 17th of July 2018.

user 2: Omg hahahaha *tags five people*
user 3: *rupaul drag race gif*
user 4: Actually, this really happens! Trees release oxygen when they use energy from sunlight to make glucose from carbon dioxide and water. Like all plants, trees also use oxygen when they split glucose back down to release energy to power their metabolisms. Source
user 5: This is why i have Tumblr. Thank you science side tumblr.
