I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:
IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.
1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.
2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.
3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”
4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”
5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.
TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.
Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.

Please make a post about the story of the RMS Carpathia, because it's something that's almost beyond belief and more people should know about it.
Carpathia received Titanic’s distress signal at 12:20am, April 15th, 1912. She was 58 miles away, a distance that absolutely could not be covered in less than four hours.
(Californian’s exact position at the time is…controversial. She was close enough to have helped. By all accounts she was close enough to see Titanic’s distress rockets. It’s uncertain to this day why her crew did not respond, or how many might not have been lost if she had been there. This is not the place for what-ifs. This is about what was done.)
Carpathia’s Captain Rostron had, yes, rolled out of bed instantly when woken by his radio operator, ordered his ship to Titanic’s aid and confirmed the signal before he was fully dressed. The man had never in his life responded to an emergency call. His goal tonight was to make sure nobody who heard that fact would ever believe it.
All of Carpathia’s lifeboats were swung out ready for deployment. Oil was set up to be poured off the side of the ship in case the sea turned choppy; oil would coat and calm the water near Carpathia if that happened, making it safer for lifeboats to draw up alongside her. He ordered lights to be rigged along the side of the ship so survivors could see it better, and had nets and ladders rigged along her sides ready to be dropped when they arrived, in order to let as many survivors as possible climb aboard at once.
I don’t know if his making provisions for there still being survivors in the water was optimism or not. I think he knew they were never going to get there in time for that. I think he did it anyway because, god, you have to hope.
Carpathia had three dining rooms, which were immediately converted into triage and first aid stations. Each had a doctor assigned to it. Hot soup, coffee, and tea were prepared in bulk in each dining room, and blankets and warm clothes were collected to be ready to hand out. By this time, many of the passengers were awake–prepping a ship for disaster relief isn’t quiet–and all of them stepped up to help, many donating their own clothes and blankets.
And then he did something I tend to refer to as diverting all power from life support.
Here’s the thing about steamships: They run on steam. Shocking, I know; but that steam powers everything on the ship, and right now, Carpathia needed power. So Rostron turned off hot water and central heating, which bled valuable steam power, to everywhere but the dining rooms–which, of course, were being used to make hot drinks and receive survivors. He woke up all the engineers, all the stokers and firemen, diverted all that steam back into the engines, and asked his ship to go as fast as she possibly could. And when she’d done that, he asked her to go faster.
I need you to understand that you simply can’t push a ship very far past its top speed. Pushing that much sheer tonnage through the water becomes harder with each extra knot past the speed it was designed for. Pushing a ship past its rated speed is not only reckless–it’s difficult to maneuver–but it puts an incredible amount of strain on the engines. Ships are not designed to exceed their top speed by even one knot. They can’t do it. It can’t be done.
Carpathia’s absolute do-or-die, the-engines-can’t-take-this-forever top speed was fourteen knots. Dodging icebergs, in the dark and the cold, surrounded by mist, she sustained a speed of almost seventeen and a half.
No one would have asked this of them. It wasn’t expected. They were almost sixty miles away, with icebergs in their path. They had a responsibility to respond; they did not have a responsibility to do the impossible and do it well. No one would have faulted them for taking more time to confirm the severity of the issue. No one would have blamed them for a slow and cautious approach. No one but themselves.
They damn near broke the laws of physics, galloping north headlong into the dark in the desperate hope that if they could shave an hour, half an hour, five minutes off their arrival time, maybe for one more person those five minutes would make the difference. I say: three people had died by the time they were lifted from the lifeboats. For all we know, in another hour it might have been more. I say they made all the difference in the world.
This ship and her crew received a message from a location they could not hope to reach in under four hours. Just barely over three hours later, they arrived at Titanic’s last known coordinates. Half an hour after that, at 4am, they would finally find the first of the lifeboats. it would take until 8:30 in the morning for the last survivor to be brought onboard. Passengers from Carpathia universally gave up their berths, staterooms, and clothing to the survivors, assisting the crew at every turn and sitting with the sobbing rescuees to offer whatever comfort they could.
In total, 705 people of Titanic’s original 2208 were brought onto Carpathia alive. No other ship would find survivors.
At 12:20am April 15th, 1912, there was a miracle on the North Atlantic. And it happened because a group of humans, some of them strangers, many of them only passengers on a small and unimpressive steam liner, looked at each other and decided: I cannot live with myself if I do anything less.
I think the least we can do is remember them for it.
tumblr mutuals love getting into the most random esoteric media possible and talking about it in modern fandom parlance they’ll be like “omg guys i’m so obsessed with dagny her relationship with hildr is so doomed yuri ugh they would do numbers on here” then you look it up and they’re talking about an obscure scandinavian folktale that’s only available in the original old norwegian

more historical clothing
history of fashion
more history of fashion
“vintage” clothing
historic costumes
children’s historical fashion/toys
details
historic wedding dresses
historic assecoires (hats, shoes…)
hats
masks
parasols
lots of embroidery/jewlery
Short disclaimer: Most pictures show clothes of royalty, aristocracy, and burgoisie as their clothes weren’t worn as much and especially not for labour, which is the issue with farmers/workers’ clothes, which also were reused quite often, whether to sew new clothes or have rags. So please keep this in mind!!
It really is very European-centric as I am European as well, and I apologise for it if you expected more from it. I definitely lack the knowledge to determine what are accurate portrayals of other cultures, and to find content for them is really difficult as well. This is why I would encourage you to submit any resources you have to my blog! If you have any book recs or know good pages, please let me know!
Another edit/note: Pinterest has changed a lot since I made the post, so you need to be signed in now to see more than the first row of the boards, I’m really sorry about that! (Also I tested all the links and on my original post they still work, if you’re having isues with that.)

a/n: i was scrolling through my drafts and found this. surprisingly decent? ofc edited it and decided to post it for my dear obi lovers bc i still get notifs from the older fics being adored <33
It was a slow Sunday morning, none of the customers caught Obi's interest and if one happened to miraculously catch his attention - they'd leave the second they got their order. Mitsuhide and Kiki did have a shift with him but they were in the back busy with pastries and flirting as far as he was concerned.
Leaned against the counter all there was left for him to do was watch the sun spill in through the partially closed blinds and for people to occasionally walk past the door.
Obi groaned in boredom as he stretched his arms forward, about to brew coffee for himself when the small silver bell above the door made its call.
You walked into the cafe with a soft smile, eyes not fully open and headphones in. As you walked towards the register you glanced up at the menu boards, turned off whatever you listened to and slid your headphones onto your neck.
"Welcome to Clarines, what can I getcha?" Obi greeted, eyes fixated on you and the possibilities to tease you for the sole purpose of entertainment flowed into his mind.
With your head tilted only slightly to the side you tapped a finger on your chin, gaze still stuck to the letters.
"A large cappuccino please" you finally said with a hum, the melody of your voice clear in the almost empty shop.
"Alright then, not a very adventurous choice, but what can I do," Obi said as he brew your drink. "To go?"
"Oh I'm so sorry for not being adventurous enough when ordering coffee, I'll drink here," you said as you dug out your wallet.
"That'll be 3$ and 50 cents, dear unadventurous…" he hung on the last words, Obi glanced up at you as he waited.
You only raised an eyebrow. "You don't need my name," you firmly stated as you handed him the money.
"Well, perhaps I want it?" Obi leaned on the counter with his crossed forearms once again, a playful smirk tugged at his mouth.
"Too bad," you said as you lifted the mug off the counter and carried it to one of the many empty tables.
Perhaps it wasn't your intent to hide your satisfaction, but even if, the bright grin on your face made Obi a bit more cheery than he'd be any other Sunday morning.
This time it was a Tuesday morning, not as slow, but not crowded enough for Obi not to notice you walk in. The way your expression changed slightly was almost unnoticeable, with pressure put on the word almost.
"How may I serve you today, dear unadventurous customer," he asked, happy there was no line.
"I'll have a regular cappuccino," you said, with seemingly no care for the title.
"Even more boring, but oh well," Obi sighed dramatically as he readied the machine. "here again?"
"Yep," you said with a nod.
"Here it is, a plain cappuccino," he said as he placed your order on the counter and named the price.
Once again, you took the same table which was conveniently free and sipped on your coffee. Then you dug out a laptop from your bag that you leaned against the side of the table. You faced the window from your seat and you'd probably grimace at the sunlight that fell straight onto you if Obi didn't adapt the blinds earlier as he did the other day too. So you typed away on your laptop for a good while, with the sounds of the cafe muffled through your headphones.
Whenever Obi had free time he'd watch you and try to guess what you listened to. Perhaps not guess, he tried to imagine what type of music you preferred, maybe you actually listened to audiobooks instead, if so, what genre did you like best-
"Obi, we have customers," Kiki nudged his shoulder.
The next time he stole a glance at you you were at the exit.
You came in later than usual at Thursday. It wasn't one of Obi's most glorious days, and the three cups of coffee he drank till now haven't made much a difference. Shirayuki who had the morning shift too that day was about to suggest that Obi work in the back to possibly reduce his rudeness towards the customers—
Yet the moment you walked in and smiled brightly Obi's face seemed to light up and wash away his gloomy demeanor.
"Morning!" you greeted.
"Ah, if it isn't my favourite boring customer," Obi prompted his elbow on the counter, chin leaned on the back of his hand as he smirked at you with a slightly tilted head. "What's with that face? That doesn't really fit your boring coffee,"
"I did well on an important exam," you grinned proudly.
"Shall we celebrate the fact that you do indeed have a braincell?" Obi asked, amused at the pout you gave in response.
"What do you mean? Did you think I was stupid?"
"It would be a lie if I disagreed," Obi replied nonchalantly as he glanced away from you. "Are you gonna drink an awfully common cappuccino?" he looked back at you.
"I seriously don't know what you've got against cappuccinos," you said before your gaze went up to the board. "What do you recommend then?"
"I'll brew you the best coffee you've ever drank," Obi said as he pushed himself away from the counter and reached for a mug.
"What if it's not the best?" you raised your eyebrows.
"Then…" Obi pondered for a second. "I'll buy you dinner," he smirked at you.
"How about lunch?" you asked, eyes followed his movements, the milk frothing and the careful motion of adding it to the coffee. "I'm not gonna wait all day for free food.”
"Well, I'm gonna buy you lunch then," Obi assured as he placed the mug on the counter.
Your eyes scanned the drink carefully, it made Obi wonder if you did it just to tease or if he really messed up the pattern of the foam— but before he could get antsy you took a sip.
"So?" Obi used this opportunity to without shame stare at you, it's not like there wasn't something not to look at, you were probably the prettiest customer he's had recently.
"Gotta admit," you licked the cream away from the tips of your lips. "I expected less,"
"Hah, see? I told ya," Obi grinned.
He wasn't gonna buy you lunch. The realization hit him only a second after you had taken your drink to a table. What's better, he offered to treat you without even knowing your name.
A groan escaped Obi's mouth as he glared at the ceiling before he glanced at you once again. You sipped happily on that damned drink which stole you away from him. What was that even about? How stupid must one be, to have a drink ruin a potential date?
First attempt to ask you out:
Obi-0 : Drink-1
Obi almost lost all hope you'd come today. The cafe barely had any free seats and he constantly glanced at the door, convinced that you saw how busy it was and decided to get your boring cappuccino somewhere else. He wanted to brew that plain coffee for you, and watch you enjoy it while you worked or read at that one table you always chose for whatever reason.
"Wow, I didn't expect it to be so busy on a Friday morning," his head whipped to the next customer standing at the counter in front of a quite long queue because their voice was definitely yours— it was.
"Look who it is, I almost thought you wouldn't come today," Obi sighed as he tried to be loud enough for you to hear over the crowded coffee shop.
"They serve the best cappuccino here," you said thoughtfully. "But I actually want that drink from yesterday, no idea what that was, but it was great," you smiled brightly.
"Best you've ever had?" Obi grinned.
"Eh, I bet you could brew something better," you shrugged. "Anyway, can I have that to go?"
It was a short, pretty cliché line, but what can one do after losing to one's own drink.
"So, do you have a name or can I call you mine?" Obi asked, eyes on you, marker in one hand and the cup in the other.
You almost bursted out with laughter, he definitely caught that twitch in your smile. But instead you smirked. "Yeah I'd like that,"
"...what?"
"Call me by your name," you said as if it were obvious.
Obi blinked a few times, mouth still slightly agape as his mind went blank. He didn't even really need your name since you were right there to take the order straight from his hand, he just wanted to tease and maybe ask you out with a cheesy pick up line. And here you are, stomping all over his attempt.
At this point Obi wasn't sure whether you were oblivious about that or not.
"Well then," he finally replied, scribbling his name along with his number on the cup.
As if he'd give up that easily.
"Here you go, enjoy your drink," he said with the sweetest smile he could whip out.
"Thank you Y/n, so sweet of you," you said with a wide smile of your own.
