The finale was unbearable. I am really fed up and exhausted of Robinavitch being the saviour in every plot line. Season one was absolutely amazing and admitedly, after knowing the views of some of the cast members on a genocidal colonial settler state I felt this admiration go away. And I feel like this season is it for me. I don't think I can watch the show anymore? I live some of the cast members and some of the characters but I feel like if Robinavitch is the same in s3 it would definitely make the show unwatchable for me.
The thing is it really make me angry to be put in this position as a spectator because of son nonsensical writing choices. Season one was great. It introduced the characters in a perfect rhythm, we got to see a bit of everybody and it was great knowing that they still did a great job doing so during an MCI. We had good pllt lines for the characters and things got resolved by the end of the season.
This season however? I feel like we were left hanging from episode one and nothing really happened? I guess from my feeling towards season one I expected so much more in terms of character building and plot? I don't know but this season felt rushed and incomplete. I mean, there was supposed to be a big accident at the water park and that the PTMC was supposedly going to be overwhelmed by those patients and only two or three came? We saw Santos grab a scalpel and no continuation? The whole plot of Samira needing to leave but then wanting to stay? The new interns? I don't know but this season felt more about Robinavitch and his bike than anything else.
And I get it, I mean he's the main character right? But wasn't it supposed to be an ensemble show? Ok he wants to have more screen time but does it really have to be at the expanse of other beautiful plot lines? I feel like this season, you didn't get the time to be transported into a scene or a dialogue between two characters without Rabinatich's head popping out 10secs in. And all of this for what? The man is actively suicidal and the show ends with him and the baby? And no matter how touching that scene was or even the scene where Abbot talks to him, it didnt reach its potential in my opinion?
I saw a lot of critisim online about the writers trying to insert a lot of so called "Emmy winning scenes" this season and I can't help but agree. Really the plot and the characters were left dull and useless unless Rabinavitch came into it and It really make me angry. I mean we get it, this season was about his possible suicide and depression and bla bla bla but did it have to be that much? I just couldn't enjoy this season as I enjoyed the first and it really makes me frustrated. Even the final talk between Robinavitch and Langdon wasn't hitting for me. And trust me I am one to love characters that piss me off but Robinavitch is just to much? He is not crafted to make you hate him or anything I mean according to the writers it was done unintentionally?? And still you hate him and in season one it made sense, name a reason and it appeared in the show and I enjoy hating him as much as everybody here. But this season? It was just frustrating someho? Sorry I am not sure how to put it in words haha. But it really and I mean really made this season boring. You didn't specifically hate him for the character that he is but more because he took way too much space in the plot. Everything was felt on screen as if we were in his head and we thought like him because the other characters didn't have any chance to challenge him or verbally out things in their perspective except in the last episode and it still felt useless.
Giving him scenes where he directly berates other female characters for things they cannot control and then being a so called "feminist"? That scene was really "de mauvais goût" as we say. And on top of that, having Samira apologise to him????? Javadi looking for his approval????? As a woman of colour it really made me clench my fist to see us again reduced to characters that make the white main male character feel good about himself.
The thing is, I think it was a deliberate choice to leave the end a bit more "open" and okay cool but the spectators still need some closure about some plot lines?
I really really hate and I am genuinely upset that Supriya will not be coming back for season 3 and I can only agree that something must have happened because plot wise it make no sense. But you could have at least given us some closure? The way she looks at the city during the fireworks, Mohan wants to stay!!! (And don't even get me started on Hatosy and his Jupiter romantic quote coz I am going to gouge out my eyes to stop crying because I love them so much and it kills me.)
And of course I know I forgot some stuff but tbh I just watched the finale an hour ago (europe😛) and it is how I freshly felt about it (I didn't proof read this so sorry). But I couldn't help but talk to somebody about this so there you go (sorry again).
Really angry that Santos was just left charting. I mean her character was brilliant in s1 and the first half of season 2 and then she was literally put aside? Same goes for Perlah and Louis, I feel like we could have had more discussion around it (her tears in front of the fireworks made my poor girl is so sad). King is still in this weird situation about not having a personal life and her struggle to live outside of her sister and being her caregiver?
Again I feel like we could have had a lot of great stuff this season but it was botched for Robinavitch's suicide plot line that was dragged in front of us for too long.
Of course suicide is an important subject to touch and it is so rare to see it depicted by a medical professional but I feel like it could have had more impact if 85% of the episodes weren't just about that?
Again this is my opinion and I know I have forgotten some things and I am sorry. They will probably come to me later on haha. I am not exempt of making mistakes and not understanding stuff but I just tell it how it is for me after just watching the last episode. And who knows? Maybe my opinion will change (idk about that but who knows eh?). But as of now, I can't even bring myself to rewatch s2 and I am know for being a big big rewatcher so it really pain me.
