Sleepy's just enjoying her day with Chubby (who's eating her stuffed bear's ear) while Jack works a day shift to spend the night with you two. But there's knock at the door.
"Don't gum your bear to death, silly lily---"
"Hello?"
It's a strange man who is adamant that he was hired by her husband to fix some electrical issue in the garage. But she's smart enough to know that Jack would've told her about someone coming over. She's smart enough to know to tell the guy she's gonna call him before anything else.
âI can be in and out. Donât want to take up your whole afternoon.â
Behind Sleepy, her baby lets out a bright yell from the living room. The stranger, this supposed electrician, nods toward the sound.
"You've got your hands full, it seems."
And that's where she, as a mommy, stops with the manners.
"You need to go."
She shuts the door on him and immediately calls Jack with Chubby in her arms.
"Can't be calling cause you miss me."
"Well, I do...but---Jack, I have a question. Did you hire an electrician to come look at the garage?"
"...What?"
"...Did you hire somebody to look at the garage? This man came, and he said there was an electrical problem and that you hired him. I didn't let him in but---"
"No. I didn't."
Jack's voice is burned into his throat.
"No." Sleepy can hear movement, fast steps, and someone saying his name. "Lock the door."
"I did."
"Every door. Every window. Stay on the phone with me."
Faster steps and spit swallowed.
"I'll be there."
"Jack, I don't think you have to come---"
"I'll be there soon."
Let's just say Jack's never driven any faster than he did today. Almost ended up right back at the Pitt with the speed he was going. But for all the nights he takes off (and takes off without hesitation), he doesn't sleep, and all that paranoia-laced fatigue might have him back there anyway.
Should I write more? I don't know where to go with this exactly or what to do with it. Maybe it doesn't have to be this particular stranger. Maybe a weird neighbor. Someone scary to have Jack explode over protecting his girls from...
Robby doesn't mean to get excruciatingly hard over your My Melody scrubs. He really, really doesn't.
It's a one-off moment of filth---it's not about falling victim to Sunshine's charms specifically. If it were, wouldn't he be worse than Jack by now? Making you cry like a little girl at work for the sake of his...fuck, he guesses the word is obsession.
No. He's painfully normal about his feelings for you, or his lack thereof. He's just drunk. Very drunk. Very vulnerable.
He's allowed to have this one-off moment of filth if he feels extremely fucking guilty about it after.
And God. He does. Don't worry, Sunshine.
âGotta stop wearing cutesy shit, Sunshine. Doesnât do anyone...doesnât do no one any good."
He's allowed to blame you if he sobers up afterward. He's allowed to--call it a fervent pumping of throbbing dick--to fuck said throbbing dick with his hand if he's aware you'll never, never give him the time of fucking day as long as Jack's alive.
Robby's not even--it's not like he's imagining you bouncing on him, squeaking while you only wear the My Melody scrub top, face scrunched up with your mouth struggling to close on a moan.
No, no. It's just the image of you walking around in those scrubs that he's twisting the skin of his cock to.

Alternate universe where Sleepy and Robby are married, while Jack is still utterly obsessed with her and wants to kill himself for wanking off to his best friendâs wife.
It's interesting to think about how crash!Robby would exist with Sleepy once he actually gets to be with her. Like, I think Jack would be relatively the same whether or not he's with Sleepy, and that's true enough before they actually get together. If anything, he's slightly less obsessive because he believes he's less "entitled" to Sleepy.
I think Robby would be more passive-aggressive with his sleeziness n' obsessive behavior towards her? I think he'd also be more resentful of her bubbly personality than Jack, actually. Like, with Jack, his self-disgust for being sooo into Sleepy doesn't just disappear once he's her partner, but I think it would for Robby.
Any self-disgust or insecurities he could have with her in their relationship would be projected through resentment of how Sleepy exists outside of him, or used to.
Lady Whispers
savor!au fic (tw: dark subject matter, grooming, pov of groomer, larys is his own warning)
Larys and his gift are alike, quiet creatures you trust to remain near you.
"I would not love it too much, I promise."
You tell the lie very earnestly, and that is what hurts Alicent so. You sit opposite her, hands folded in your lap. At ten years old, nearly eleven, her sweet, simple darling is not well accomplished in deception. She thanks the Seven that you never will be.
She looks at you, sighing.
"My sweet, you love everything too much."
You lower your eyes. Alicent touches your cheek.
Larys has been forgotten in the corner. He does not mind. This is often. And useful.
He had come to speak with the queen about some unpleasantness involving a servant to the King. The matter remains unfinished upon the table with your drawings.
You have been attempting to secure a kitten for the better part of a month.
Larys has to pay the small princess her dues. Unusually phlegmatic for your age, you take to praying over it rather than weeping.
You have asked him whether the animal might sleep in the gardens if your mother does not want fur in your chambers. You have offered to surrender any other nameday presents you might receive.
Yesterday, Larys heard you promise the septa that you would never again complain of reading passages from The Seven-Pointed Star if the gods sent you one.
A most persistent dragonfly, even if the Gods have not answered and Alicent has denied you.
"I should be very responsible, Mother. I would feed it every day."
Alicent kneels, rubbing your knuckles. "And when it scratches all your pretty furnishings?"
"It may have all the chairs."
Your mother almost smiles, a mistake, Larys finds, as you see it. Hope makes you sit straighter.
"And if it becomes ill?"
Your answer does not come so quickly, then. You merely look toward the windows, where the afternoon light warms the rooms. Larys watches you consider.
"The maester could mend it. I would pray for it as well...and I would keep it very warm."
He would think this is how children simply consider death, as a distant cruelty that might perhaps be avoided through perfect behavior. But he has witnessed many adults believe the same thing to their detriment.
"I would not cry very dreadfully if it died. Not where anyone could hear. I promise."
You say it so gently. Larys thinks you nearly force the Queen to coo.
âOh, my sweet girl.â She reaches for you, and you allow yourself to be held by her. She murmurs into your hair. "You would cry until you made yourself ill. Do you remember when you wept for an entire night in my arms when you found that dead moth?"
"It was very beautiful. I might only cry a little this time. If my kitten dies, I shall bury it by the same tree."
You had wrapped the moth in a scrap of silk first. Larys remembers you asking whether moths were permitted into the Heavens, and your distress when the septa could not provide a definite answer.
A kitten would be much worse, which is why Larys has been so particular in selecting it.
"I am sorry.â Alicent holds the back of your head. "You shall have other beautiful presents. I have had a new book of hymns made for you, with painted pages. Your father has approved a silver necklace---"
"Alright."
Your voice is muffled against her. Alicent swallows.
"You must be grateful and understand that I am not refusing to punish you."
"Yes, Mother."
Larys thinks that is the difficulty, you being the weakness of your mother that exists outside of her body. You understand so sweetly that you make no attempt to wound her for disappointing you.
When Alicent kisses your brow and sends you back to your lessons, you curtsy obediently. You even remember to curtsy to him. Only at the door do you glance back at him. The moment when you are already ashamed of your own hope lasts no more than a moment before you go.
Alicent sighs once more.
"She will forget the matter."
Larys looks to your abandoned drawings upon the table. It is scribblings of cats. A few of them have wings.
"No one will fault you for hoping she does, Your Grace."
The kitten has been living with her siblings inside a kitchen storeroom for five days. The first of the litter had been the most striking with its black fur and bright eyes, but it bore a wheeze. The smallest possessed a determined nature, according to a kitchen girl looking after it, but determination is a virtue best left to ballads.
It does little against the curse of being the runt.
The grey female looks to be the strongest. Her eyes are clear, and she eats well and has already killed a bug nearly half her size by the bins. Larys has watched the creature himself and questioned the servants who are needlessly kind enough to feed her. He has no intention of placing a dying animal into your hands.
Your grief would defeat the purpose of whatever he attempts to do.
Just around sunrise on your nameday, he has the kitten placed inside a wicker basket lined with green wool. You are turning in the hall when you hear his cane.
You make your way towards him. He will not take to asking if you have escaped your handmaids or septa so early in the morning.
"Lord Larys?"
Larys bows his head. "Princess, I wished to offer you a good name day before you became crowded with gifts and praises.â
Your sight is on the basket as the kitten scratches against the wicker. You become quite still.
âWhat is that?â
âA name day gift, if you wish to receive it.â
You look at him as though the answer should be obvious. Then you remember your manners and fold your hands.
"Thank you, my lord---"
The basket makes a slight chirping sound.
You rush to the basket so quickly that it nearly puts a warmth in Larys. He places it in your hands. He opens the top and removes the cloth.
The kitten blinks up at you, and for several moments of its chirping, you do nothing.
...He supposes he was mistaken in suspecting a cry of delight. It seems to be the conventional reaction for a little girl...as he has heard you shriek happily when Harwin once threw you across his shoulder and ran through the yard with Prince Jacaerys.
You drop to your knees with the basket in hand before you place it on the floor. The kitten places two paws against the edge of the wicker, while your own hands hover uncertainly.
Its pink nose touches your skin.
Larys tilts his head lower, eyes unblinking as yours fill with tears.
"You found her for me?"
His brother can lift you and win your laughter without thought, much like how your mother may stroke your cheeks and earn your trust as is her motherly right. But this joy has been selected, produced by him, he can claim.
"I believe she found you, Princess."
The kitten steps clumsily into your hands. You press your chest as it begins to purr.
You smile in your tears, but whatever happiness is immense falters. Larys watches it disappear.
"Mother said no."
Larys rests both hands on the head of his cane. "Your mother did not give me permission to bring her. If she becomes angry, it will be with me. I shall endure it for your sake."
That is too easily done, the thought settling into you that Lord Larys has risked your mother's displeasure to give you something you desperately wanted, as a friend would.
"I ought to give her back...or I should ask Mother. You will come with me, Lord Larys?"
The kitten purrs beneath your wobbling chin. Larys says nothing.
"That would be proper."
You nod, and when you rise, you make Larys suffer an awkward embrace. The kitten is held between you.
"Thank you, Lord Larys."
Larys rests his hand lightly upon the crown of your head.
"You are welcome, princess."
...He is aware of how cruel the presentation of you to Alicent is. You are already holding the purring creature, your eyes still swollen from joyful tears.
Alicent can only wear the name of disbelief on her face at the sight of the kitten in your arms. It is when she turns to Larys that she wears something close to rage.
"Mother. Lord Larys brought me a name day present. He told me you did not give him permission.â
Larys nearly smiles. It is conventionally endearing that you think his honesty must count in his favor.
"I know you said that I could not have one, and I said I ought to return her. I truly did. But Lord Larys said that I must ask you because that would be proper. I shall not be cross if you say no."
...He had said no such thing. He had merely agreed when you said it.
He supposes you know when honesty does not work in your lord's favor.
"I have only held her for a little while, so I do not love her very much yet."
Alicent closes her eyes. Larys only watches what she shall do with the knife he has placed in her hand.
"My sweet..." Her gaze remains on Larys. "You may...you may keep her."
The joy that breaks instantly within you has you running to your mother. She receives both you and the kitten against her, one hand cupping the back of your head as it often does.
She murmurs conditions into your hair, the animal will be examined for sickness and fleas, it must not sleep in your bed, a maid must oversee its feeding, you must not carry it everywhere. You agree to everything quite eagerly.
Larys assumes the young princess would agree to marry a stable boy and surrender her inheritance if the queen allows her to keep holding the kitten.
You turn to him when she finally releases you.
"She may stay! You knew Mother would let me."
âNo, Your Highness. I merely hoped. You must choose her name now."
You lift the kitten until its little face is next to yours.
âYou are Lord Whispers, and you brought her. So, she may be Lady Whispers.â
...Fitting somehow.
"I have made a journal for you,â he says. âYou may write down what she eats, whether she has been sick, and anything else you observe---"
Alicent's hands tighten around her throat when she interrupts him. "You may take Lady Whispers to your chambers now. I wish to speak privately with Lord Larys.â
You look between the both of them. "Is he in trouble?---"
âHe is a man grown. You neednât worry over his troubles.â
Larys nods his head toward you, and that is when you carry the kitten away after thanking your mother again.
Alicent waits until your footsteps have faded.
âYou heard me refuse her. You...I tolerate the dynamic between you and her that you use against me, as she would surely hold vitriol for me for the rest of my days if I were to keep her friendship from you. But this, Larys---you have made me choose between surrendering my authority and breaking her heart in a worse way.
Her words are harshly, but smoothly thrown to Larys. He tilts his head.
"Then I shall accept whatever consequence Your Grace considers appropriate---"
"You will not teach her that you are the person who gives her what her mother denies. You shall not deny that you are attempting to. You have already begun."
Larys squeezes the head of his cane.
Queen Alicent has always been smarter than their royal counterparts take her for, but its a shame that now, she only understands that he wants something. The error lies only in supposing that the thing he wants can be separated from your happiness.
His error lies in not knowing what that very thing is just yet.
"I assure you, the princess knows precisely who allowed her to keep the creature."
His assurance seems to settle Alicent only slightly, but it is the truth.
You will remember that Alicent said no, and you will remember that Larys brought Lady Whispers anyway, the kitten---something you already adore, bearing his name.

should i write lalo accidentally not paying attention to how much coke princesa is doing cause she's just too sexy doing coke for the first time and he's too horny over how he needs to help her that she overdoses...
do you think the groomer would talk to baby about relationships or sex using his own experiences as examples to see how far she has let roman get & if so can we see that conversation
"She um...I mean, I'm respectful. I can't talk about what we did fully but...it's important-I don't know, I don't think I've ever met someone who can make her feel the way she makes me feel. When the uh-when the time is right? Which, I don't know if it is for you but sexually compatibleness is important."
"...Yeah."
Kendall watches Baby get up from the bed, getting her jacket from her bag. She puts it on tightly.
"Do you and Roman...just-you don't have to tell me, but it's important that you feel safe and good with Roman."
Kendall doesn't think about the good, but what he's saying is right.
"...Yeah, I guess. Can we watch something?"
Kendall stares for a bit before he nods.
"Yeah. Yeah. We'll put something on but you can ask me anything. I'll always be discreet but if you ever need advice or anything."
"Okay."
Baby smiles, which makes Kendall smiles. It makes him feel safe.
You know who else would be a Yankees fan⌠Kendall. I think the universe is asking you to write a little thing where he brings Baby to a game but Roman insists on coming along back in the groomer days. Although I canât imagine Roman enjoying baseball much.
PLAY BALL
-------- When you and Roman were younger --------
"You should be playing with my balls right now."
Kendall's head snaps towards Roman, the boy who's red and in between the both of you. The crowd roars.
"Hey. Not with me. Why did you come if you're gonna fuck-fucking act like you're in quip city before an idiot?"
"...Because I don't want you touching her-"
"What the fuck are you talking about-"
"You guys, he's walking. Steve Adkins is walking."
Roman doesn't blink when he puts focus to the field. "Yep...he is indeed putting his foot in front of the other. Astute observation."
You punch his shoulder.
"Fuck!"
"They let him walk to first base."
You didn't think this is how you'd be spending your Saturday. But...you've been getting into baseball. Or more so you came into slight interest a month ago and Kendall caught you buying a book on plays in the 50s and you didn't know he knew so much about baseball. It became a place where you and him had another thing in common.
You can't deny Roman's sudden hatred for baseball and you and Kendall couldn't stop him from coming to this game.
Roman slumps, resting his head on your shoulder.
"No, not walk. No way that was purposeful, with the way this inning is fucking going. Are they stupid?"
"It's the Mariners, yeah."
Kendall turns, smiling to meet yours.
Roman looks as if a cat's vomited on his shoes.
"I'm getting bacne."
"Gross, man."
"You're attempt at a mustache is disgusting."
"I'm getting bacne too."
Roman nuzzles in. "Ew." He scrunches his nose up, you're ready for the rest of the game to be more of his complaining.
"...That's summer for you. Just heat ruining...aesthetic. C'mon! Let's fucking go!"
Kendall's indulging Roman, leaning in before standing to sit next to you.
"You see, that guy? He's gonna want to purposefully walk Kev-"
Crash. He falls forward, stumbles. You try your hardest to not feel embarrassed for him.
"What the fuck, man?"
"Roman. Seriously."
Kendall almost ate it with his brother, your boy tripping the shit out of him. Jesus. You flick his ear.
"Just watch the game!"
"Where are you going?"
"I'm just gonna sit next to her so I can talk about what we're watching. Because that's why we're here, man. Just cool it with the heat-stroke idiocy."
Roman turns to you.
"Is there like...any, any? Particular reason that you've kinda taken to watching sweaty men with fat asses jiggle their way through playing tag? And also, it's somehow so boring. Your infidelity is so boring."
Kendall stares down at the both of you.
You just wanna watch Steve Adkins try and make it to second.
You slump.
"Infidelity?
Roman blinks up at his brother. You slump further.
"Yeah. Don't question it like it's new-why are you trying to hide? Are you ashamed at the fucking obvious because you're about to flash your tits to the dugout?"
"Oh, so you know what a dugout is."
"Kendall?"
"Yeah?"
"Fuck off." Roman rubs his face on your shoulder, his hair falls over. "Just...teach me so it can be a little less boring."
Your heart stumbles, your excitement is embarrassing - he wants to learn and you can teach him...Roman actually wants to listen. Willing in your interests.
You don't know you're perking up.
"Okay, so-"
"You don't have to make this game easier for him. He can like...stay bored. You should stay bored, bro. You kind of practically begged to come-"
There's a clack before everyone around you goes wild.
"Are you kidding me!"
In all of it, you'd missed Kevin Maas's homerun. In your anger, you're missing Roman's smile and indulging his nuzzles. Kendall sits back down, slowly and heavy.
FOUR INSTANCES WORTHY OF AN HR REPORT -- JACK ABBOT x F!READER
PART OF CRASH and BURN!AU (don't have to read those though lol)
There is no doubt that Jackâs possessive spiral after your motorcycle accident is imminent. Innate. But still, what did Dana mean by telling him that she and the rest of the Pitt knew what you two were becoming? Well, here are just a few instances worthy of an HR report to explain that.
|| JACK ABBOT MASTERLIST || WORD COUNT: 5.6K || MOST RECENT BLURB ||
This really ain't nothing much but sum fun scenes that can't be in part three. If y'all got any ideas in the realm of Sleepy and Jack acting afool with each other (especially something dirty), don't keep it to yourselves <3
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă. .ăťă.
Instance Worthy Of A HR Report #1: Laboured
The first night Jack really fucks up is when he thinks of kissing you. He meansâthe thought of kissing you is not the exact cause of said fuck up. If it were, then every other shift would be practically infested with them.Â
Itâs just what he remembers. You across from him as you soothed the patientâs son, all while double-checking the IVâŚand he wanted to know what your lips felt like. Feel like. Itâs a habit heâs learned to ignore.
âSoâŚis the baby okay? IâIâm not going into labor, am I?â
Well, kidâŚsometimes thereâs a moment he wants to make Sunshine stumble over her words. To keep whatever flirtations inside that mouth. To put you in a place where heâs sure your cheeks are hot like the way his chest gets whenever youâre cheeky.
âBabyâs doing fine. This is nothing more than Braxton Hicks.â
Jack looks to the young pregnant mother in her second trimester, mild contractions but not in active labor, as her first kid plays with her fingers. Sheâs stable, and as of now, there seems to be no reason to send her to L and D. It's the kind of case that gives them time to breathe.
âOr maybe your kid just doesnât like the food here.â
âI donât!âÂ
Jack smiles closed-lipped at the five-year-oldâs proclamation. The mother chuckles with Whitaker at the monitor. Jack watches the way your lips form a warm smile as you pick up the chart for vitals.
Sometimes he wants to kiss you and the pink of your brain, because every other night is when heâs stuck realizing the way your lips move or hips sway or brain bleeds nursing genius into every other shift.Â
You and the pink of your brain. Itâs not fair, really. He needs to see you stumble over him. Thatâs only fair, sleepy. Youâll like it.
âWe donât blame you or your little sibling. You shouldâve seen what the cafeteria called spaghetti last week.â
Jack doesnât look up, banter ready at the ends of his stubble. âStill better than what you packed for lunch that day. What was it again, cheesy rice and a packet of almonds?â He turns to the mom. âYouâd think the girl who brings her co-workers lemon squares bi-weekly would know how to properly feed herself.â
âIt was brown rice with spinach and parmesan cheese. Full of flavor. Donât be uncultured, Dr. Abbot. Itâs unbecoming of you.â
âYou said that when I didnât shave for two weeks.â
â...I was joking. That was so becoming of you.â
Jack just smiles at the mom. A sort of âHearing this? Yeah, this is what I deal with every day.â
Wouldnât change it for the world, regretfully.Â
âIâm being serious, you know.âÂ
â...I know.âÂ
â...Do you guys always talk like this?â
You and Jack both watch the patient with her bright grin. You both miss the way Whitaker nods with everything genuine on his face, mouthing âYes!â
âYep! Heâs my morale booster.âÂ
Jackâs head lifts back.Â
Those words of yours send something burning down his spine.Â
You better not be joking, he canât feel like this over a joke.Â
â...Tragically.â
You and he share a glance, and JackâŚJack here, in the before, is still in a place where he can ignoreâpretend that a glance like this isnât tethering. He pretends heâs not locking focus onto you, something deeper than he realizes.Â
Something deeper than you let on. He doesnât realize that either.Â
A flow of black hair strolls by the open curtain, and there, itâs obvious that Santos, with a chart in her hands and a scrunch of her face, hears the tail end of your and Jackâs banter.
âJust get married already.âÂ
Jackâs head snaps to the intern, eyes leaving the way you call after her.Â
âWeâre already divorced. You missed the custody hearing over my pen he keeps stealing.â
His fist clenches. His neck jerks in one stiff movement.
Why the hell would she say that?Â
No. Jack couldnât know why that singular quip from Santos fills him with a quick rage in his chest. Itâs ridiculousâŚ
Itâs ridiculous as much as it should be valid, right?Â
Santos is good, and sheâs capable of molding her insults into something thatâs not worthy of reprimand most of the timeâbut she canât talk like that. Not to an attending. Not about you and him. Thatâs inappropriate as much as itâs disrespectful.
âŚEven if you liked it. The implication that others can see that you and him areâŚsomething.Â
But you liked it, and that ships something burning to the lower ends of his stomach. Would you like to know that? That youâre doing this to him? He bet you would.Â
â...Iâll give it back once Iâm finished charting tonight.â
But even if you doâeven if you do know what you do to Jack, which is what heâs constantly fucking said is the only thing he needs to stop feeling like a dirty old man, the assurance that youâre in need of him as much as he is in need of you, the guyâŚhe knows it doesnât matter.
Maybe he needs you a little dirtier, sleepy.
âThey could be mommy and daddy with each other.âÂ
The mother laughs again as you snort at the so-to-be big brotherâs genuine words. Jack tries not to take in a breath, because a kid who's only been able to use the bathroom on his own for two years cannot be assuranceâno fucking way. And he doesnât care for the way Whittaker looks to him, his attending, and you to see if itâs okay for him to laugh too.Â
âYes, sweetheart, they would make very cute parents, wouldnât they?â
Jack nods once, thin smile going down as quickly as it went up.
âSheâd look good pregnant.â
âŚHe doesnât even know what heâs said until his words hit the room like a dropped scalpel.
Jesus Christ. What in the actual fuck did he just say?Â
Jack wasnât thinking. He wasnâtâhe was just lost in the flow of the banter. He didnât mean to say thatâ
Even if itâs true.Â
Jack burns in the neck and jaw as you freeze, and heâs hoping to God itâs not in offense, because you should know he did not mean to say that. He watches the small of your fingers hover over the vitals chart. You blink once. Slowly.Â
He didnât mean to say that. Heâs sorry. What in the hell is wrong with him now?
What are you doing to him to make him slip up like that?Â
âŚJackâs not looking at his med student, but he can be sure Whittakerâs giving the same look a deer gives when theyâre scared.
Fuck.Â
He doesnât feel relief give way when the breath you let out is something of a half-laugh, half-scoff.Â
âUhâŚthanks, docââ
âI meant in general.â He cuts your small words off quickly, staring with a focus of what he makes sure looks like assurance at you, because heâs not willing to fumble in front of a patient, even though his ears are burning in the way they havenât since he was a kid caught by mom. Jesus Christ. Maybe later. âI meantâyouâd carry well.â
Oh. Fuck him.
He tries to smile, because he feels better when you do, even if his teeth-baring is probably half as effective. He still feels sick, and you still look like youâre not enjoying this.Â
ButâŚwould youâŚwould you allow his words to be something concerning some fucked up flirtation? Would you allow him that, sleepy? He needs it. Even if he doesnât deserve it.
âNever mind.â
Jack clears his throat and turns his sights back to the chart, suddenly very interested in fetal heart rates.
So, no. He couldnât know the way you shake your head with a quiet smirk. Heâll just want to die for the next ten minutes instead. Thatâs a habit too. But neither of you could know that Whittakerâs eyeing the tile with a new, uncomfortable edge sitting deep in his chest.Â
Even heâs been able to get past Dr. Abbotâs and yourâsâŚquirky flirtations like everyone else. Heâs even been able to have moments whereâŚwhatever his attending and you are make him smileâwhere he can find it endearing. Or something.
But that was something else. That was something that makes him want to apologize to the patient when he ends up alone with her. That was something that makes him want to ask if youâre okay with that kind of thing, and between all the things heâs seen of you and Dr. Abbot, youâre more than okay with a lot. Youâre more often the perpetrator.
âSorry about that, Maâam.â
âŚYep. Whittakerâs almost brave enough to call itâŚwrong.
Instance Worthy Of An HR Report #2: SmudgeÂ
The second time Jack fucks up is the fiftieth time you fuck up. Another day that ends in Y, really. You, kid, are made up of flirtations and poking, brightly-colored manicured nails that belong to him and him only. He doesnât know when he decided that, but the fact he did is half of the problem, heâs sure. What he could also name a fuck up is that fact that heâs getting closer and closer to notâŚgiving any absolute care in the world about it. If he did care, then he wouldnât be fucking up right here, right now.Â
When he doesnât stop you from squeezing his bicep or telling him that his medical skills are as beneficial as his looks, he fucks up. When he enjoys it, feels every tease and cheeky smile in the bruising of his old bones, he really, really fucks up. And if he cared enough about that, heâd stop you from pushing.Â
âYour bicep was made to be a pillow, Dr. Abbot. The way your hands were made to save lives, your biceps were made to be my headrest.âÂ
But God, do you push. And that means, you want it, right? You want him, even if he doesnât know how the fuck in the world that happened. And thatâŚ
Unfortunately for whatever conscience and morals he has left, thatâs stopping him from fucking and hoarding the young, wanton nurse, thatâs gonna be enough for him.
But with the way you lean into him, smile tired in its beauty, and yada yada do, itâs not unfortunate for you. Quite the opposite. You should act like it when the time comes.Â
God, what the fuck are you doing to him?
You both still smell faintly of blood and saline. Jack watches you lean against the counter as you wipe your cheeks, your hands trembling just enough to notice if youâre looking closely.Â
And Jack is looking closely, because apparently, heâs the only one around here whoâs going to notice you collapse because you, despite taking care of everyone around you, pretend that thereâs no time to take care of yourself.
Just another reason he should have you.Â
Jack crosses his arms.
âYou didnât eat. You obviously havenât slept enough to be working a full shift. You didnât evenââ
âJackââ
âDonât 'Jack' me. Youâre not gonna be any good to anyone if you run yourself into the ground.âÂ
You exhale, obviously half-amused at the lecture, and the guyâs thankful that you're too tired to throw some knowing quip at him. Heâs not in the mood to feel his lungs go tight. But heâs mostly thankful that you donât bring up the one-time pregnant debacle that happened a couple of days ago. Thereâs no need.
âYouâre one to talk, Jack.â
Jack smirks. His heart beats against his thick chest. He moves in closer, and he canât remember when he began doing that.Â
âWatch it.âÂ
Heâs tired too, but not as tired as you. Not tired enough to not want to see you fall under his words.Â
But you donât hide the embarrassment on your face. You donât give Jack a stuttered tease he can stiffly tilt his head at.Â
You just let your head collapse onto his shoulder. Thatâs nothing new, itâs what you do when youâre too fatigued to keep what little sense of professionalism you have with Jack on your skin, and itâs been a while since heâŚreally, kid, he really did attempt to stop you from doing this. Once. A long time ago.Â
But why stop you now? You look soâŚpeaceful.Â
Peaceful enough, that without asking, without thinking, you turn your face and wipe your mouth against his sleeveâa lazy, almost toyed gesture.Â
Jack doesnât move. He canât move.Â
Well. Youâve never done that before.Â
Itâs like every nerve of his is aware of your weight against him, the warmth of you through thin cotton.Â
Keep this up, and heâs not gonna like what he has to do to you. Maybe. He hopes the good of him will keep strong by then.Â
Jack lets out a deep, deep breath. Act normally, dumbass.Â
You can't fuck her and tell her all the things you want right here. Can you imagine that? Ripping apart her scrubs and holding her up against the wall? No, then you'd have to pay for the damage. She buys the expensive kind. Figs. They always fit too well. But he'd pay. He'd take care of you and all your ruined clothes.
âYouâre living up to the name I gave you.â Jack closes his eyes when you push your face further in. His voice is flat. âYou know that was disgusting. I should reprimand you to hell, sleepy.âÂ
â...Mhm.âÂ
But he wonât. Hence, the fuck up at this very moment.Â
He lets you lean onto him, lips staining his scrub sleeve with the lip gloss youâre wearing, and heâs only getting closer to realizing heâll let you do things like this over and over and over again. And right now, his ignorance, his denial of it all, is the only thing keeping him straight. Alright. Whatever the word meaning straight.Â
âYouâre gonna take a twenty in the break room.âÂ
âJack, the shift ends in an hourââÂ
âIâm not trying to kill the ego you donât have, but the nurses can do without you for less than a quarter of 60 minutes. Whatâs gonna happen when you wipe yourself on Langdon, or a patient? Youâre going to force me to save you from whatever healthcare managementâs gonna say about that?âÂ
Jack watches you with unblinking eyes as you smile faintly, not meeting his gaze.Â
âYep.âÂ
He doesnât know if heâs waiting for you to meet it, or if he just canât help himself when it comes to swallowing the sight of you whole. Itâs as ridiculous as it is something heâll stop finding ridiculous one day. Heâll be entitled to it.Â
God, he already isâno thanks to you. Look at you.Â
Pretty, capable thing on his shoulder.Â
âYeah. ButâŚyou wonât have to force me.âÂ
Jackâs less harsh on himself for not knowing why those are the words that make you drag your eyelids open. But he takes the moment, eyes never leaving yours.Â
âBreak room. Now.â
You blink, and Jack takes the burn of your head, leaving him when you pull away to smile and nod. Youâre already taking a few steps on the way to the break room.Â
âWhatever you say, captain.âÂ
His lips slightly curl at that. They fall when you turn to leave.Â
He tugs on his stained scrub sleeve, and itâs only when he catches Whittakerâs gaze snapping away from him that he realizesâŚyou and him and your mouth along his bicep have been in view of the entire Pitt.Â
Itâs just another thing that he has to almost care about. But Jack has a feeling that if anyone doesnât have the smarts (like Dennis Whittaker) to look away, then that might be a problem. But the only person, as of now, to never look away from youâŚ
Thatâs him.Â
Instance Worthy Of An HR Report #3: Caught
Robbyâs first thought when he canât find Jack is to check the rooftop. But, wouldnât he know it, heâs lucky enough that he doesnât even make it to the elevator when he catches sight of the guy. He smiles when he turns into the doorway of the break room.Â
His smile drops when he sees it isnât just Jack.Â
Itâs you and Jack. Which, nopeâŚthatâs not an uncommon sight nowadays. Heck, Robbyâs got a mind to know that sight of his favorite nurse (heâll only admit that when youâre on your deathbed) and the second-best attending in Pittsburgh close enough to be a perpetualâŚcuddle isnât that odd anymore. Right? Right. You and Jack are much too competent at your jobs for him or anyone else to care.Â
But what Robbyâs stumbled in on is you with your head lolled towards the armrest, one hand tucked under your cheek. Thereâs a tiny crumb, maybe one from those expired vending machine crackers, on your pinkened bottom lip. Are you wearing a different shade of lip gloss?Â
He blinks quickly with furrowed brows when Jackâs knuckle brushes it away. Gently, intimately. He pushes his curled finger against the corner of your lip just enough to make a soft indent.Â
Robby finds the need to stuff his hands in his pockets as deeply as possible.Â
That? He guesses thatâsâŚwhatâd you call romantic. Cute. It makes sense. You like Jack, and Jack, really, really likes youâand the inability of either of you to make a move, at least when one of you is conscious, is ridiculous and amusing. Entertaining for this Godforsaken place, he canât live without. And itâs never been a problem.Â
In fact, thereâs nothing about this scene thatâs really a problem now. Yeah. So why Robby feels something heavy coming at his arms? Thatâs on him, maybe.Â
He watches Jack watch you stir, lashes fluttering.Â
âGo back to sleep,â Jack drags your last name in the order. Robbyâs head lowers.Â
Itâs dramatic to do this in their place of work, but itâs more funny than wrong, so Robby takes on focusing on trying to swallow the shit-eating grin heâll wear when Jack turns aroundâ
âYouâre killing me.âÂ
âŚItâs swallowed.Â
âHey, Jack.âÂ
Jackâs head stiffly jolts in turning to Robby, and he gets why his jaw is tight. Heâs been caught inâŚwhatever the fuck this is.Â
âI was just coming to find you to relay whatâs in store for me, as alwaysâŚyou goodââÂ
âHave you made it a habit to stalkingly leer at people, Robby? Jesus Christ.â
Robby stills at Jackâs whispered, harsh tone.Â
Is this going to be a problem? Jack Abbot, the Jack Abbot heâs known forever, wouldnât allow that. Heâs Jack Abbot, heâs just been caught in a web of vulnerability by the man whoâs non-professional relationship with him is, at most, made up of asking for beer and bar recommendations and the occasional talk to get each other to stop fantasizing about suicide, even if heâs Jack Abbotâa man whoâs more open about his trauma than the usual stone-wall doctor because he manages to be somewhat healthy about his mental health. He has a right to be embarrassed and mad as much as Robby has a right to critique thatâŚfucking tone.Â
Yep. Thatâs what heâs going to go with for now.Â
âI didnât mean to stalk you, brother. I just wanted to find youâŚâ Robby shakes so, so slightly in an up-and-down motion. âAnd I did.âÂ
Jackâs jaw slightly loosens. Robbyâs eyes shift away from where his hand drops from your face.Â
âSorry, you just jumped up on me. Thatâs it. We actuallyâŚâ His eyes shift back when footsteps come heavy his way, and he has to lean against the breakroom doorway when Jack shoots right by him, head lifted and body stern in posture. Eyes are never not confident. âWe werenât short tonight, so a good amount of patients have been triaged.âÂ
âShe alright?âÂ
Jack doesnât slow in his walk as Robby follows. He doesnât blink when glancing at him.Â
âSheâs fine. Just extremely tired, you know her. Iâd rather her be slightly unprofessional and sleep on the job instead of being very unprofessional and collapsing over in the middle of a shift.âÂ
â...So she didnât knock out while clocked in on her own accord.âÂ
âNo. So donât bully her.âÂ
Robby smiles with a closed mouth.Â
Maybe moves have been made. Maybe itâs seeping into his hospital because you two canât keep your hands off each other. Maybe congratulations are in order.Â
More like a âFinal-fucking-ly.âÂ
âShould I send you two a housewarming gift?âÂ
Jack stops in his tracks.Â
âWhat?âÂ
Okay. Maybe Robby didnât swallow his shit-eating grin well enough.Â
âIâm not going to insinuate that you two need head up to HR and file a consensual relationship agreement, and I have absolutely no interest in figuring out the dynamic between the both of you, but if something happened, Abbot, youâŚyouâre lucky. Sheâs luckyââÂ
âRobby.â
âŚItâs swallowed again when Jack turns to him, nothing like humor and everything like a stern, well-kept rage on his face. Something like a warning under the curls and against his stubble.Â
âI donât know what youâre talking about.âÂ
Robby looks out to the coldly lit hall before shrugging his shoulders at Jack. âOkay, sorryâif nothing happenedâŚand nothing did, itâs the first hour of my shift, Iâm still dragging on my riffingââÂ
âI just donât know what youâre talking about. So donât talk about it.â
The other attendingâs head is slightly lifted up at him. Heâs not the first one to look away.Â
They do, because maybe Jackâs had a bad night. Or maybeâŚ
Maybe even if nothing has happened between the both of you, Jack think heâs entitled enough to act this way when youâre the topic of a conversation, but for the sake of his friend, and for the sake that he doesnât care to deal with this, Robby convinces himself, quite easily, that itâs the former.Â
And in that, as Jack relays Pitt information as he hands over the E.R., Robby couldnât catch how Jackâs jaw is still so tight.Â
And Jack couldnât know itâs because heâs walking himself to the edge of a cliff to bury himself alive there.Â
Instance Worthy Of An HR Report #4: Guilted
You know what youâre doing to Jack.Â
Well, you thought you did.Â
Youâre not stupid, for the most part. You know that your teasing and gifts and everything you do to and with Jack isnât just something for him to roll his eyes at. You would be an idiot not to notice that you and your attending like each other, and with every unblinking glance and banter growing with more and more tension, with more heat in your stomach, itâs becoming less and less fun and instead becoming something that youâre probably going to have to confront with him sooner or later. But as of now, you can barely handle the thought of Jack Abbot being attracted to you enough to want you without your knees collapsing in together. So, you hope itâs the later. The latter. Because youâŚÂ
Youâre also not stupid enough to think the way you want him is normal, because you want him too much, and you are stupid enough not to immediately try to kill that feeling. Instead, youâre waiting on all the signs to justify itâthat need.Â
That need to hold his broad, thick arms in the night. That need to have his hands grab your face and whisper things to you that arenât flirtatious nothings and professional praises. That need to see what he looks like underneath his scrubs. That need to know all of him, how he feelsâwhat heâs like when heâs against you under the sheets. Youâll wonder if heâs as stern and commanding and stoically teasing inside of you if he never gets to be inside of you. That need to feel like death at the idea that he may never be inside you and your house and your kitchen and on your couch.Â
That need that eats away at the word âcasualâ. That need that finds you when you should, at the very least, just think about having sex with him. That you should just think about fucking him and maybe date himâŚbut no. That need wants more, and itâs a part of you.Â
And at best, Jack probably just wants to fuck you and maybe date you. Maybe commit. Thatâs what you thought.Â
âI grabbed Thai.âÂ
You look up from your almost devoured granola bar. Dana gave it to you; sheâs occupied with being the best nurse there is two computers away.Â
âWhoâs thigh?âÂ
You hear Dana snort.Â
Jack doesnât blink. His mouth curls by an inch, which means he found your quip to be very, very hilarious.Â
Maybe heâs okay with whatever this is for the rest of you and him, and that need is telling you that if this is the only way you can have him, youâll take it. God, Dr. Abbot. Iâll take you anyway I can have you and try my best not to feel pathetic about it. Iâll never be able to just want to fuck you, but if thatâs what you want, flirts and/or fucks with no-strings attached, Iâll pretend like that ideaâs not hanging my neck up by those very strings. Iâll just hope youâll like me enough to cut them. To tolerate attachment. Sheeshy. If thatâs where Iâll end up, maybe Iâm okay with nothing ever happening.Â
Itâs why you smile brightly, cheeks creased til they're hurting at his slight, stern head-shake.Â
âThai food. That didnât even make sense. Thai and thigh are pronounced differently.â Jack holds a take-out plate of what must be Thai food. âRight?â
âRight. No, Jack. You said it right. ButâŚwhat is this?âÂ
âI tried that new place next to Vampâs grill. The one Ellis called me a picky bitch for not wanting to tryâŚand I tried, because no one calls me a picky bitch. Iâm the least finicky out of all of you.âÂ
âMhmââ
âTry me, sleepy.â
You press your thighs together as you lean forward. Youâre impressed that itâs easy to ignore the way you want to kiss Jackâs stubble. Instead, you just tilt your head before spinning your swivel chair once.Â
âI just did. ButâŚis it any good?âÂ
âVery. And I know you didnât eat, so I picked something up for you. And donât start thanking me like you did with the donuts, this is just so you donât crack your skull on the tile when your body decides itâs time for a nap.âÂ
âŚThis show of generosity that Jack fails to brush off as something heâs doing casually isnât the thing to make you realize that you donât know this situation with you and Jack as well as you do. Itâs not just another thing to make your cheeks go warm and your belly flip; itâs not just another thing that makes being casual a little bit harder.Â
No. Itâs what happens right after, when you kindly reject said generosity. You think nothing of it, and thatâs too easy when youâre thinking about how strong and lined his hands look as they curl over the take-out container.Â
âActually, JackâI followed the doctor's orders, a specific doctor who told me I should eat healthy but fairly, and I made myself a hefty meal before I came here, almost as hefty and pretty as you. Iâm still burning it off. But, whatever you got meâwhich, thank you thank you thank you, it smells really good. Iâll throw it in the lounge fridge and save it for breakfast.âÂ
âŚItâs when Jack doesnât roll his eyes or shake his head and short, grey curls with a slow blink or curling lip.Â
Itâs when you somehow, instantly, know something is wrong. Even if you donât know what.Â
He doesnât say anything. Do anything. Not right away, not until he just drops the container on the counter. It takes him five seconds to put a hand there, palm flat. He leans forward.Â
You take in a soft breath.Â
âDo you have a problem with food?âÂ
You donât let it go.Â
âWhat? IâJack, what are you talking aboutââ
âYou can tell me. Iââ Just looks to the left once, where noise is coming, where heâs reminded that there are other people around. âI know people who can help you. I can help you, but you do not need me worrying about you, and you certainly donât need this becoming an issue that could affect your work ethiââ
âNo! I do notââ You instantly break your words when you hear how loud and high they slip out of you. You shake your head, and the way your brows furrow and your mouth frowns isnât you being dramaticâitâs you confused. âI do not have an issue with food or eating, are yoâJack. Are you insinuating that I have an eating disorder?âÂ
You blink when Jack merely shrugs, thick and pale arms crossing over his chest. âYou did this the last time, and now is a better time than never to be an asshole and confrontational.â
âThe last time? You mean the donuts? I ate themââÂ
âYou ate one. And you donât bring lunch, you always have some excuse for not having lunch, dinner, or breakfast. Am I wrong to say you donât eat in front of people?â
You glance down at your nearly finished granola bar. Jack doesnât.Â
His words arenât exactly harsh, heâs almost casual with them on his tongue. His face isnât that stern either.Â
Heâs very, very good at making what heâs pulled out of his ass sound like diagnostic fact. Youâd expect no less from your cowboy. You scoff anyway. Â
â...Me and Dana weâre gonna grab a bite to eat after this shift, Calâs diner. We go there sometimes. Her husband might join us there before he has to go to work. Sun might still be down. I was gonna bring this there to eat instead, which is horrible diner-customer etiquette, but thatâs because I really, really appreciated this. IâŚâÂ
Your hands curl in your lap. You donât meet his eyes. You canât, you might cry, and you still might feel like crap anywayâbecause heâs obviously hurt about something and you donât know why.Â
âHey. Iâmââ You hear Jack sigh low.Â
âWhat did I say wrongââÂ
âNothing. Nothing, Iââ In your slight vision, you can see Jackâs head lower, a gentle order for you to look at him, andâŚyou do, because not looking at him didnât kill the heaviness in your stomach.Â
His face is encouraging. Apologetic. Beautifully guilty and lined with slight wrinkles and order, you think.
âEverything that just happened in the past minute? That? That was all me, sleepy. Youâre okay. Iâm stupid. I am very, very stupid.â He puts his palm back on the counter.Â
He turns it facing up.Â
âIâm sorry.âÂ
You close your eyes.Â
Your hand reaches his, your heart speeds up when he squeezes firmly.Â
You shudder when it doesnât let go when you try to pull away.Â
Even when youâre like, and I donât know why youâre like this, I stand by what I said. Iâll take you anyway I can have you.Â
â...Youâre going to eat it?âÂ
Even when you canât stop whatever it is youâre doing.Â
âYou can watch me. You wanna come with us?âÂ
Jack turns his head, and itâs where he finally lets go of your palm. âIf you want me, Evans?âÂ
You try not to burn at the way Danaâs eyes were already on both of you. You canât be angry at her. You and Jack put on a show, and you can only hope it didnât make her uncomfortable.Â
â...Shit. Why not? Happy to have you, Jackâthe more the merrier.âÂ
She leans back in her chair and smiles thinly. Jack turns back at you. In the shared glance, the soft smilesâŚ
You both miss the way Dana bites her lip, blinking all too quickly. Only one of you would care, only one of you would ask why sheâs staring in the first place.
i do have a little sonny angel hipper on my phone (!!!) and i think jack would genuinely be so taken aback by the cute little butt
i can see him being like ? get that baby some CLOTHES maybe?? ew đ
( đŚ˘)
"Get that baby some clothes," PLSSSSS
Listen, Princesa is the Sonny Angel girl, but I think she'd be too shy to buy herself a hipper because of the butt. She knows Lalo would make fun of her for it, and she just wouldn't dare to bring it out in public.
Sleepy, however? She would totally not give a total fuck. Like, she definitely has a few Sonny Angels lying around (she's a collector in general), and she would go crazy over a hipper! A trinket for your phone!
"Sleepy, what the hell is that?"
"A Sonny Angel, Jack. You've seen them on my desk before. This one's for your phone."
"...Right. The ones that just have to be naked."
"They're cherubs---"
"I do not care. Get that baby some clothes. Why do they---"
Jack stares at her phone, at the Sonny Angel hipper with its butt out. He swallows, blinking quickly.
"If you have a reason as to why they have penises manufactured onto them, feel more than free to give it to me."
He walks away. He needs to continue to convince himself that those things are weird. He cannot go through another Labubu-esque hunt.
