Put me down as another believer of "Ilya Rozanov isn't actually willing to sacrifice shit for Shane Hollander". If no team is willing to put in big offers for Shane, then Ilya "I know the dark side of hockey and perceptive enough to know Troy Barrett is a good person" Rozanov sees what a big loss Shane has suffered and just dgaf. If teams are still out there trying to woo Shane, then it's Ilya "I already have" Rozanov's time to shine. They can look at what's best for Shane's career, Shane's reputation and Shane's professional future, and he can give up this team that makes his husband take a discount and passes him over for deserved leadership positions.
lol, I think we concluded this debate a while ago without considering this potential answer. We kinda thought there just weren’t any “occasions” for Ilya to put his money where his mouth was, but yeah, I guess this would be something he could do. (I’ve since seen some fanfics where Ilya made this choice and basically that Ilya is a totally different person than TLG Ilya).
Shane would never expect Ilya to make this sacrifice for him, but Ilya took this sacrifice from him for granted.
You know, considering “all the ways Shane is selfish”, he actually always put his own goals and feelings aside for Ilya. There were all these times where he truly didn’t know what Ilya wanted, but as soon as he did, he always bent over backwards to make it happen for Ilya. His acceptance for Ilya’s feelings, fears and goals were almost always unconditional, and he never asked for much in return. Whenever he unknowingly hurt Ilya, he’s never failed to apologize clearly and change his behavior.
At Tampa, after the cottage invitation, he accepted that Ilya wasn’t ready and there wasn’t any anger or resentment on his part. When Ilya didn’t want to come to Montreal, he agreed immediately without a second thought. When he made the Ottawa plan, he put Ilya’s needs at the forefront, Canadian citizenship, need for star center, cap space. When he realized Ilya was unhappy about staying in the closet, he basically adjusted the plans completely and prepared to come out in a few months.
If this is considered selfish, then what does RR consider “selfless”?
