Remi grabbed a champagne flute from one of the passing trays to give her hands something to do. Quietly, she cast a spell of the liquid to assure it’s cleanliness. She’d had enough surprises at theses events to last her a lifetime. Satisfied with the lack of poison, the Duval took as sip and surveyed the room. Everyone looked stunning as usual, the concert had been ethereal as always, and she was waiting for the Ouroboros shoe to drop. “A dash of paranoia, anyone?”

“Paranoid or not, you look nice.” He offered the woman a smile. Xavier knew that she had something weird happen to her during the Halloween shindig, so it only made sense. The hunter werewolf leaned in a little closer to her. “Just between you and me, a hunter doesn’t leave home without security. So if something goes down, I’ll try and protect anyone I can.”

“Do you think they are doing shots at this fancy joint?” Adalina teasingly questioned. She wanted to just enjoy her night off; she was dressed to the nines and ready to have a good time. The holidays were stressful and even more so with her job since it seemed like more and more calls were made and often for stupid and silly reasons rather than something dire enough to need police intervention. So drinks, dancing, and entertainment were goals of the night like they were any night and she knew she’d be able to tick them all off her to-do list. “I’m still celebrating my 30th and I believe you owe me some.”

“Because I’ve lost too many friends Xavier… I can’t lose another. I won’t lose another”. She looked away then, hoping he would still agree. It was true; right now she felt the people closest to her were in danger… some maybe even a danger to themselves as much as outside threats.

Anna had to take it into account that this is probably the most injured she had ever looked in front of Xavier. So her with a gash in her side and needing to be treated by him most likely came as a shock to the older male. “Trust me, I wish it hadn’t have happened to me, this pain is not something I enjoy,” she said as he finished patching her up. The huntress shook her head, “the pain should go away in a few hours once the healing kicks in, and I could probably walk, just gotta take it easy. Don’t want ya to have to carry me everywhere.” She was stubborn at best. She liked to be able to take care of herself if possible. Anna cast a glance at the bloodied shirt, “sure, you can keep it here. Not weird at all,” she offered a pained smile as she slowly stood up with a grunt of pain and a wince.

Xavier nodded. “Good thing that you are a hunter, so it will heal up a bit faster than if you were just human.” He chided her softly though it was clear that he was worried still. “Just let me carry you to my bedroom. You can sleep there and I will stay on the couch. I’ll make sure no more werewolves come in...” He chuckled softly. “Other than me.” Xavier offered her a smile. “Okay. I will try and see what scent I can pick up from it.” The werewolf then rushing over to support her when he heard her grunt of pain.

“We’re going to my place. You’re going to stay there for a while. Where I know you’re alright,” she told him, nodding as though she was certain of the decision. Of course, Xavier would know that he could say no but she really hoped that he didn’t. 

This wasn’t the first time Kaia had randomly joined someone’s table to introduce herself, and it probably wouldn’t be the last. Not everyone appreciated the sudden company so it was nice when she was greeted with a smile. Made the introductions much easier. “No, not any reason in particular. I just thought it was about I introduced myself given our mutual friends. You were turned as well, right?” 

“Yeah, I was turned. Why? Do you not meet many that were turned?” Xavier asked. The night he was turned was a little sore for Xavier even after all these years.

She knew he had feelings for her still, even if it was an unrequited love. But this was the first she ever heard of a ring. She had read the signs correctly after all from when he was still a hunter. Yet that didn’t change things. She was happy now, and though it regretted her to see him and hear him like this, she couldn’t let herself linger in the past. It would only prove to be dangerous and she loved Dominic too much for that. “Okay – whatever helps you come to terms the best. I respect that.” 

Carlisle nodded, his stoic gaze not revealing the moment the puzzle pieces came together in his mind. He did know that face, although the memory was soaked in blood. “I understand that,” he said, wondering what he was possibly going to say. “It’s a terrible thing when innocent lives cross paths with someone who’s lost control.” But Xander had not been innocent, and the alpha had not lost control.

“Yes, it is. Sometimes it takes a father from his daughter and other times it ruins an engagement.” He sighed softly. The werewolf would give anything to turn back the clock and kill that wolf. 

Anna held back a grimace as the male swept her up into his arms and carried her to the couch, the movement jostling the wound on her side, but she appreciated the older male’s help nonetheless. “No worries, I don’t plan on moving,” she responded as she leaned back against the couch to get more comfortable and closed her dark hazel hues until he returned. The huntress exhaled a soft hiss of pain when he began cleaning the gash and settled up slightly to pull her shirt off. The older hunter had seen her in a sports bra more times than she could count, so there was no modesty needed there. “It was white and fucking, probably the most feral turned wolf I’ve seen in the time I’ve been hunting,” she said, biting the inside of her cheek. “Though I’m sure it’d make an attractive rug in your decor, I can’t give much other in the way of details, the thing took off after it felt it injured me enough. It was attacking some college kid, I interfered and the girl got away thank god.”

He texted Dinah that he was going to be staying at his place for the rest of the day to help with Anna. “God. I cannot believe this happened to you.” He sighed softly. Maybe this was also his way of paying back what he did to Calypso. Now, he had to worry and care for Anna. He was as delicate as he could be with the wounds, but it definitely did not look good. “Do you want anything to numb the pain, Anna?” He asked gently as he finished her bandages. “You can sleep here. You want me to carry you to my room so you can get changed and then crash on my bed?” He didn’t mind sleeping on the couch if she wanted to take the bed. “They’re going to pay for this... This might sound weird, but if I can keep those clothes here I might be able to pick up the werewolf’s scent off of them.” He grumbled. 

Carlisle knew that there was something he was missing. He was convinced that he recognised Xander’s face from somewhere else, a long time ago. “Turned?” he repeated, a bit curious. “Most of us are born nowadays…”

“Yeah... I was turned. But I would rather not talk about that night.” He replied a little defensively towards the other werewolf.

“I’m just saying, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a rise in popularity for Matthias or Matty as a baby name in the next little while. I’ve already helped deliver two babies this week alone!” 

“Look at you, kid. You’re becoming famous.” Xavier mused with a smile as he teased the Rhodes. God, it was hard to think that he was sixteen back when Xavier had turned and left Calypso... Look at him now. There was a little bit of pride for Matthias that swelled in the werewolf’s chest after having been close to the Rhodes family for eleven years before he had been turned.

Turning away from the counter, coffee cup in hand, Kaia spotted a familiar face. Not that they had ever spoken. Kaia knew Xavier was apart of the Davenport pack, and pack she may one day be a part of. It had been a year since Kaia had become a werewolf and she felt she had become no closer to choosing a pack. She longed to be apart of one. Having grown up in a coven it seemed only natural. However, Kaia wasn’t sure the Davenport pack was right for her despite Gale and Hunter. Deciding perhaps it would be a good idea to get to know some of the other pack members Kaia took a seat across him at his table. “Xavier, right? I’m Kaia.” @hunter-in-the-pack

Xavier was getting a coffee after his meeting that he had. His sponsor had told him that he was proud of him today and it caused the werewolf to be beaming from ear to ear as he looked down at his coffee. When he looked up, a younger werewolf was sitting across from him. He smiled brightly at her. “Yep. It’s nice to meet you, Kaia. Any particular reason for the company today?”

“You know, in my entire life I’ve never had a pretzel before.  I thought of getting one at the Oktoberfest but then the whole thing happened in the mirror house. I think next year we’re going to ban halloween from happening. Here, pretzel?” 

“–– I mean, I could pretend that I didn’t see that but we both know it happened so….care to explain?”

“Yes, Carlisle Lowell.” He extended a hand for Xander to shake. The alpha did not laugh with the other, his expression blank as his mind worked on placing the other werewolf’s face properly. “How long have you followed Dinah?” 

Xavier shook Carlisle’s hand. He still offered the other werewolf a smile though the man’s face was blank. “About... I think I am coming up on three years now.” He replied. “It was about three years after I was turned.”

I want to continue to take each day one day at a time to keep myself sober and slowly work towards forgiving myself for my past actions, as well as make amends where I can.
