Cyrus had left Xandre to last for two reasons. One because he had no doubts about the boyâs loyalty and care. And two because he liked the way the Shade saw him enough to want to leave it to last. Like savoring the last bite of a very good meal. He said nothing as he sat down next to the other and moved, pulling the other into an embrace. He loved invading Xandreâs personal space. As he did with all of the Ouroboros members that he considered âhis.â But with Xandre he also knew that a well placed display of physical affection was sometimes necessary. His voice was soft, âI havenât been avoiding youâ I just havenât been very good company.â
Alexandre hadnât heard the other approaching. Whenever he visited the HQ his guard was down, he was relaxed, sometimes to the point that he accidentally walked through a door instead of opening it. After the explosion he had made a point of being around more than usual, checking in with the others. He had noticed Cyrusâs absence, and he had been anxious despite Ghostâs passing remark that the basilisk was fine. Since he hadnât be able to find Cy after the explosion, Alexandre had started worrying that the other was upset because of it. âCy,â he gasped, returning the hug with fervour as soon as he realised who it was. Holding the other tightly, it took several seconds before the shade broke the embrace. âIâm just happy youâre okay.â He smiled carefully. âI got fucking worried when I couldnât find youâŚâ
âIf youâve come to my workplace to ask about me about Ghost, then youâre wasting your time and breath. And itâs none of your business,â Sushim said calmly, only briefly glancing up from their work bench at the shade. It was no secret how comfortable the Ouroboros members were with the younger oneiroi; Ghost had an aura that tended to draw them towards him. Sushim was always a bit envious of it, but with a face like Sakar, it was more off-putting than anything.
The veterinarian calmly pulled off the latex gloves, strolling over to a cabinet full of medicines and other vials, examining the labels for something specific. âOtherwise, do you have another reason for being here? A pet or something?â Sushim had always tended to keep things separate between work and the Ouroboros. Despite the various concoctions they could create in the lab, they wanted to maintain this as their own⌠separate sort of sanctuary. Away from it all, just tending to the animals. It didnât entirely help that both them and Ghost worked in the same place though.

Alexandre had not expected to be greeted that way, not when in his mind Sushim equalled nice and Sakar equalled cold. Stopping in the middle of a step, he fell back on his heels instead, burying his bruised hands into the pockets of his coat. They were still sore from the aftermath of the explosion, from scraping at wood and concrete to get other ouroboros out of harm. He didnât mind that much however, seeing how it was common for them to land somewhere on the spectrum between bruised and mangled, either from a fight or from a miss with the hammer in the workshop. He had a high pain threshold â he was a boxer after all. But, ever since the explosion he had struggled with one of his thumbs.Â
âWhy would I?â he asked, head cocked to the side. Deciding that perhaps that was a can of worms best left unopened, he shook his head. âNo, yeah I was looking for you⌠Itâs actually my, uh, thumb?â It sounded like a question, he realised after he had said it, and sheepishly he revealed his left hand. A particularly gnarly bruise covered the base of his thumb. âI mean I know Iâm not an⌠animal⌠but the hospital is full of wounded, they donât need me. So, maybe you could take a look at it? But I can fuck off too, if you want to, you seem busy.âÂ

Ghost pulled away a little from Alexandre once he was done squeezing and twirling the boy around, wanting to assess and make sure he was really all safe and sound. He knew it might be stupid to fuss, but he couldnât help it. He had Xandre for his own son, the kid he never got to have, it was always worrisome to see him in the middle of their messes; the oneiroi couldnât even imagine how his real parents must be feeling like.
âOf course you did. Youâre brilliant,â he sighed, taking Xandreâs face in hands to pull him in and press a kiss to his forehead. Saying he was proud didnât feel right, even if a part of him was; he was proud the shade got everyone out and helped the others, but he wished they would start finding better fucking escape plans than just doing this every time. He should have a talk with the others later. âWeâre good, donât worry, X. Sush was with me and Iâve seen Cyrus to know heâs okay, too,â he reassured softly. âAny other time I might tease you for the way you just said Kaseyâs name, but Iâll let you bring that up on your own. Come, letâs get you some water, at least. And some chocolate. Not as much of a mess that some sugar canât fix.â
Alexandre closed his eyes, leaning into the kiss, able to physically feel the heavy weight in his stomach disappear. For the first time in days he relaxed. He had inherited his motherâs anxious nature, just like her he did everything with great passion â including worrying himself into imagination hell whenever something happened. But Ghost was so reassuring, so kind and lovely in his voice and manner that Alexandreâs bad feelings vanished. âThatâs good.â His smile was weaker now, when he allowed himself to feel the exhaustion. His cheeks turned proper red, lips pursed together as his hand shot up to cover his mouth. âI didnâtââ he started, but fell silent, realising that there was no use â he was a bad liar, and worse around Ghost. âFuck, well, alright.â Sighing, he followed the other to the kitchen. âHow did you and Khatri get out? Gallagher? Were you close to the explosion?â
@kaseyxreidâ
One minute, Kasey had been trying to help a random woman who was still stuck underneath a door, then the next, he was in Xandreâs apartment. Heâd hardly heard the shade, and the phoenix wasnât exactly going to argue. The apartment was painfully familiar, and he had to gather his bearings as he heard Xandre begin to cough. âEasy, mate.â He put his hand on the otherâs shoulder, squeezing lightly, âI can helpâŚin a few minutes. I have to cry, you know,â he managed a small smile, hoping thatâd ease the tension. At the otherâs question, he shrugged his shoulders, running a hand through his messy hair, âIâm fine. Really, Iâm okay,â he said slowly, clearing his throat. âIâm just glad you are.â
Alexandre couldnât care less about his own budding bruises and scraped hands â he didnât look worse than after a good night out. His throat was a pain, sure, but nothing that wouldnât fix itself within a couple of days. âYou donât have to cry for me,â he mumbled, sounding as if heâs taken up smoking in sometime in preschool. They were alone, but he couldnât understand his own reasoning as to why. âIâm fine.â As the stillness caught up to him, the silence of his home in contrast to the chaos of the explosion, he felt echoes of the night pulse in his head. He sighed, immediately feeling an unfamiliar burn in his throat. âIf you, uh⌠Do you want me to take you to HQ instead orâ because I have aspirin and I could make like... tea or something?âÂ

@resiliencicâ :
If there was ever a time Ghost would wake up from a nap to answer his door, was the time someone was pounding on it right after they had just performed the terrorist attack of the century. The only reason he was sleeping anyway was because he was completely exhausted, worked to the bone, after staying up for too long trying to make sure everyone was okay. Heâd already checked and heard all his loved ones were doing okay, he was just planning on a catnap before he went out to visit them.
But this knock was so sudden and so urgent that he found himself getting up before he was even fully awake, half-naked and dazed. All it took was one look at Xandreâs face for his brain to kick into action, a matching grin spreading on his lips. âOh, tutu, Iâm so glad youâre okay,â he muttered against the boyâs shoulder, arms squeezing tight and lifting him for a dramatic twirl around his living room. âDonât worry, I wouldnât leave you so easily. Are you alright? Are you hurt?â
Alexandre had spent the last hour convincing his mother that he had been far from the explosion. He had lied and told her that he had been sick and spent the whole evening at home, having to repeat himself at several occasions as she handed the phone over to his father. Mr Revere had been much calmer â lacking the European flair for dramatics â suggesting that perhaps Alexandre should live with them for a few weeks, âuntil God was done with that wretched cityâ. Alexandre missed them greatly, even his father, and by hugging Ghost he imagined himself hugging them; the massive Oneori a substitute for what had been his greatest source of safety. Â
Ghost was a solace in this afterlife, having pulled him out from his darkest moment and given him a new family. He felt his feet leave the ground, spinning around as safely as a little child in the Oneoriâs arms. âYeah,â he mumbled as he found footing again, his voice still raspy from the dust heâd breathed in. âI, uh, I wasnât very hurt so I got our people out of there.â The shades were the constant escape plan after all. âI couldnât find you, or Cy, or Khatri⌠The last one I got was Kasey andâŚâ He trailed off, quickly adverting his gaze before a soft red flushed his cheeks. âIt was a real mess, wasnât it?â
@resiliencic
Alexandre looked normal. He was bruised, some fresh wounds here and there, sure, but no more than from a Saturday night out. His throat was still sore from breathing in far too much dust while getting his fellow Ouroburos out of the confusion. That was the only thing bothering him, ripping on his insides whenever he spoke or, well, breathed. While he had found many of his allies, he hadnât been able to find Ghost in all the chaos. Worry had been creeping up on him because of it, and no reasoning could completely rid him of it. Not many hours of peace had passed before the shade found himself outside his self-proclaimed dadâs door, nervously banging his bruised firsts against the door. When it took the other more than two seconds to answer, Alexandre walked straight through the door instead, becoming tangible inside Ghostâs hallway.Â
âOh mon DieuâŚâ A wide grin grew on his face as he saw that Ghost was safe inside. âI was so fucking worried.â In a moment of pure relief, reflecting how much he cared about the Oneori, Alexandre flung himself at the other, wrapping his arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. âI couldnât find you.â He sighed, falling silent, content expressing affection the way words couldnât.
@kaseyxreidâ
âHoly hell,â he exclaimed softly, feeling his throat burn mercilessly from the dust he had breathed in. He had placed Kasey on the brown Chesterfield sofa in the living room on the first floor, having had taken the Phoenix to his home in Greenwich Village rather than to the HQ where he had taken the other Ouroburos. Sliding down next to Kasey he started coughing violently, his body finally catching up to the discomfort it had suffered. âFuckââ he wheezed, wiping the tears as they came from his red eyes. âMon Dieu⌠Are you alright?â Placing a hand on Kaseyâs arm, Alexandre turned to face him properly, his expression gentle despite his worry. âHow are you feeling? Kasey... Are you okay?â
