on-pointe-disasterâ:
âYour dancing is wonderful,â Aalis complimented the young man who had asked her to dance with a wide smile. She had been taking some time to enjoy the spring festivities before some performances later in the day for the people. She let out a laugh as the man spun her quickly, making her go up onto her tiptoes for a moment. That was when everything seemed to dim and her vision was replaced with something else. She stood in a strange stage-like place, twirling on shoes that helped her to stay on her toes, with music that she didnât recognise. The vision was gone as quickly as it came but it was long enough for her to stop dancing, a look of confusion on her face. âExcuse me,â she told her partner quickly as she dashed out the the square and into one of the small alleyways that ran adjacent. She wasnât really paying attention to where she was going when she clipped someoneâs shoulder, âSorry!â Aalis exclaimed, apologising quickly.Â
Teddyâs ale sloshed onto his hands as someone knocked into his shoulder. Thankfully, not too much spilled before he realized who the culprit was and the fact that she was apologizing now, âin a rush somewhere, Aalis?â A bit of sarcasm in his tone but he wasnât upset and the small smile on his lips said as much. âYou alright?â She looked frazzled and while he knew it was rude to comment on her appearance, he couldnât help but ask, âyou look pale...â and frazzled but they werenât exactly close friendsââ just close enough for him to feel comfortable pointing out the obvious.Â
witheredwarrenâ:
Aerith smoothed out her gown with nervous hands. Sheâd just got back from her world, dropping off her notes to Susannah for the second time and relishing the fact she could jump from space to space so seamlessly. She was doing well. Three notebooks full of information as many people as she could observe not just with her eyes, but with the eyes of her friends as well.Â
She hadnât even known about the festival until this appeared her bed. The white gown more regal than anything sheâd ever owned before. Was it a gift? Had she earned it somehow or was it just a flook in the worldâs design?
Either way, she liked the look of the flowers in her hair. âHow long do you think it takes them to write their songs?âÂ
âFew days? Maybe a few hoursââ that last song wasnât really everything, was it?â Teddy replied, amused more than anything at the lazy rhymes theyâd just been graced with. âAt least their lute player is more gifted at the instrument than they are are writing songs.â The lute player was actually rather good, pleasant music streaming from the strings.Â
kennedytxllisâ:
âYou know the price for your future, child. Donât tell me you came here empty handed.â Kennedyâs little cabin was filled to the brim with stuff. Mainly charms, wind chimes made from bones â it was just how she liked to live, and she liked to make sure no one mistook her for a feeble woman. Her mutt was sleeping on the bed, and she motioned to the chair on the other side of the table. âDid you come for something specific?â
"Nope, nothing for me, just browsing, you know.â Teddy gave Kennedy a sheepish look, âand I may have, uh, knocked into one of the tables outside...â Heâd put everything back on it but thought it only fair to mention.
elisecoplenâ:
She smiled softly, feeling better from his company. âCheese pizza. I mean itâs basic but itâs a classic. Itâs reliable.â This was what she needed. She didnât need a huge gesture, but rather, a sense of normalcy. âAbsolutely. A cheesecake would make the night. We might as well go all out.âÂ
âItâs basic for a reason, okay? Because itâs damn good shit and if anyone says otherwise, well,â Teddy flipped off the supposed anyone as he opened the seamless app on his phone, swiping around to order for them. âLife is shitty, Eâ thereâs no fucking way around that but,â he shrugged a bit, âIâm here for you, yeah? I know itâs not much but,â it was far more than he gave most people. But Elise mattered to himâ it seemed like she was the only family he really had left in the city these days.Â

Some people bring out the worst in you, others bring out the best, and then there are those remarkably rare, addictive ones who just bring out the most. Of everything. They make you feel so alive that youâd follow them straight into hellâŚ

kaseyxreidâ:
âI donât know. I thought maybe youâd let me know.â Kasey rose an eyebrow, though he didnât press for any other information. Teddyâs question, however, made him chuckle, âMy father was a phoenix. You ever heard of one of those? None of us kids had the gene. But we were taught all about the supernatural world so we could keep our eyes open.â He shrugged his jacket off, showing the other his arms, âBeing human means these donât heal for a long time.â
âI donâtâââ Teddy sighed and shook his head, motioning for Kasey to roll up his sleeve a bit more, âthe last time I let someone know they kind of left town....so yeah, I donât make a habit of it,â the witch mumbled, moving to take his arm before pausing altogether. âA...what?â Heâd heard of them only recently, with all the bullshit going on in the city but never...âyouâre joking right?â Teddy stared at Kasey, realizing, not for the first time, that there was so much he didnât know about the man before him. And thatâs how heâd wanted it when theyâd first started doing....whatever this was. But now...well, he was fucking realizing blindly being okay with shit was probably a good way to get himself killed....he didnât even know anyone who knew a phoenix, much less had one for a dad. Heâd barely known what they were two years ago. âSo youâre dad was aââ a phoenix and youâre just....not?â Teddy motioned to him in general, gesturing at his person, âbut thatââ youâre always like a fucking furnace, Reid. Does that just fucking happen because of your dadâs genes or something?â Because what the fuck did he know about phoenix genetics and how they got passed down.Â
lccxndaâ:
It was as if nobody truly understood what had happened â nobody truly thought to take a step back and realize just how much of her life had been left in utter ruins in the space of but a few months. The excruciating twist in her throat as Teddy seemed to finally snap â both a relief in the sense that sheâd rather he explode than shut her out and enough to shatter what might have been left of her heart beneath the weight of what sheâd left him with a year prior. âYou say that like I should have calmly accepted the fucking existence of..ââ She still couldnât say it, acceptance of what the man who remained her only other half was one thing, but uttering it aloud was clearly something else entirely. âNobody in their right mind,â Of which she certainly hadnât been when heâd told her everything, âwould just accept that. If I hadnât seen it with my own eyes Iâd think youâd lost it.â Part of her had done her best to convince herself that it was just that â that she was losing her head, seeing things that werenât there, but the searing image of his broken skin healing over had warped even that into an impossibility. Too difficult to consider whether she truly would believe that, despite knowing that Theodore was most definitely not as untouchable as he made himself out to be; a defense mechanism, she knew that itâd been much too hard to believe mostly anything in the weeks after losing Devon and Halloween. Cinda knew what sheâd done had been shitty â knew how much it would have affected the people she left behind, Teddy more so than others, but this; the way he bled pain for being left alone was much more than she feared she would find. The glistening of tears that created a softened sheen over crystalline hues begged the brand of forgiveness she so desperately needed for leaving. That he couldnât see beyond his own need to never be left on his own to see that she truly would never have survived if she hadnât done what she had. âTell me.â She spoke, voice much softer under the guise of his raised timbre, âLook at me and tell me if Iâd come to you and told you I needed out that you would have been okay with that. Tell me you wouldnât have found a way to ask me to stay.â The truth was; Lucinda knew that the rejection and the isolation of being on his own were two things that Teddy couldnât handle. âHow was I supposed to ask that of you after everything? After losing Dev?â Features contorted into something agonizing as a broken sob shattered against her lips. âHow was I supposed to look at you and find a way to live with myself for leaving you?â
He was leaving; just like that. She could choke on the irony of it and she wondered how long itâd taken Teddy to become so bitter towards her. âThis? How this works?â She swallowed back the lump in her throat. This as it it no longer held a label, as if shattered hopes and loyalty had broken across her back as sheâd left. âChanged my mind? Iâd never had a moment to make up my mind in the first place, your timing really fucking sucked, Teddy.â The bitter taste of a laugh void of humor turned her stomach as she took a few steps towards him. âI left because I didnât know how in the hell I was supposed to exist in this city anymore. I didnât know how I was supposed to look at myself in the mirror and accept that I wasnât good enough to know who my two best friends were? How was I meant to look at myself and not seeâ-.â Burns and scars and something weakened by a world she knew nothing about; something she almost felt ashamed of. âI left to protect me â- You lied, for years, for the very same reason so you tell me how my mistake is any worse off than you keeping me in the dark for all these years even when it so very clearly did absolutely nothing to keep me alive.â
âIâm sorry I left the way I did. There is nothing I hate more about the choice I made more than leaving you on your own.â How she could so desperately want to reach out again, but never knew how. A single year apart and even after years of being entangled in each others lives, she felt a thousand miles away, even while standing two feet apart. âI loved you.â It broke against her spine like an unforgiving wave as the ache in her chest forced the lingering sheen of tears to spill over darkened lashes, painting tracks through her make up. âI loved you and it turned out that you didnât trust me with the biggest part of your life so how in the hell was I supposed to trust you with the fact that I was drowning, Teddy.â Furious at herself for breaking, for losing the usually calm nature she could cling to in even the most dire circumstances, she roughly brushed away the streak of tears, hues barely lifting for the heavy weight of embarrassment she found in the vulnerability that trapped her since Devonâs passing. ââ You donât get to keep things like that from me and then be hurt when I deal with it the way I needed to.â
It was like they were speaking two different languages and didnât even realize it. Maybe he had lost it. Maybe Devonâs death had fucking scarred him for life. But Lucinda had been his best friend. Heâd trusted her with the truth and she hadnât been able to even think it through before her initial reaction to run. To turn away and leave. Yet, even with all of that, Teddy couldnât blame her. As much as heâd resented her for it, he understood. After all, heâd been the one to leave Harlow high and dry when heâd faced loss. When Ellen had died and he felt like his north star had died in a blinding light. Ellenâs death had been his first encounter with real death and heâd blanched at it and abandoned his best friend at the time. Just as Cinda had with him. He couldnât blame her. But fuck if he didnât want to. âWhy wouldnât you want answers then? I wouldâve given them to you, Cinda-â I wouldâve...â he couldnât think clearly, head pounding as his heart raced. It felt like he was losing her all over again. âI wouldâve done anything. If youâd needed to get out, you donât think I wouldnât have asked where? You donât think I wouldâve asked when? You donât think I wouldâve thought for a fucking second of doing anything else other than go with you? To help you get away?âÂ
He knew it was true as he said it. Knew he wouldâve packed his bags in a blink if sheâd told him she needed to leave. Because the truth was heâd loved her. Heâd have done anything for her, except, maybe admit that. At least then. Now? He had nothing to lose because heâd already lost her, hadnât he? Heâd already made it seem like forgiveness was impossible when all he wanted was before. At the end of the day, all he wanted was for them to be okay. He wanted to fucking laugh with her like they had. God. He couldnât even remember the last time heâd laughed like that. The last time heâd fallen asleep beside someone who knew who he was and didnât hate him for it. Before. But everything was different now. They were different now, except he still saw her as an extension of himself. Cutting her off would be like cutting off his arm and Teddy had always shrunk away from pain. Maybe itâs why even this conversation was tearing him apart. Because he couldnât shrink away from it. Couldnât hide from his painâ couldnât hide from hers.Â
âWe were all drowning.â The city had gone to shit. Devon had been killed. Cinda had nearly died. And before that...he and Devon...they hadnât known if telling Cinda would be writing her death sentence either. Not with what happened to Matt, not after what happened to Jocelyn or Oliver or Dylan or Robert. How could they have. âAnd we were wrong, okay? Maybe we should have fucking told you but everyone who diedâââ and it was like he remembered where they were and he was almost shaking and he couldnât just keep this in anymore and without so much as a word, he took her by the elbow, pulling her outside of the bar with him, ignoring the onlookers because what was a Saturday night in New York without a spectacle. He didnât stop until they were halfway down the block and he couldnât keep walking. He retracted his hand sharply, knowing sheâd probably pull her arm away the second she could anyway and turned to face her again, franticness in his eyes as the words came tumbling out. It was probably too late. But she deserved to know. And it wasnât the fucking time or place but would it ever be?Â
âEveryone who died,â his voice terse, each word weighing it down, âeveryone you heard aboutââ they were all connected. Everyone. And it wasnât fucking right, okay? You deserved to know. I get that. I see that. I know that. But we didnât want you to become one of the people we saw on the news. Matthew, Jocelyn, Oliver, Dylan, Robert, Devon,â All names that had saturated the news cycle that year, âthey were all part of this world. And they all were killed. We didnât want anything to happen to you and I fucking know itâs a stupid excuse but thatâs the truth. And you deserve that. I know itâs too late....but you deserve that, Lucinda.âÂ
He meant every word. He shouldâve said something. Even if it was about himself. Even if Devon didnât want to tell her what she was to protect her. Teddy wished heâd been more selfish back then, to avoid all of this. To have just told her everything when he realized what sheâd meant. Because it was all too late to fix now and he was scraping at the bottom of an empty barrel of appeals. Nothing could mend what had been broken and all he could hope was that heâd given Cinda another piece to the puzzle of her life she was trying to fit back together. Another piece to stack away with the others heâd left her with when heâd told her the truth. It seemed that, even a year later â standing opposite the one person whoâd always meant the most to him, the truth was always going to make itself known, one way or another.Â
wyattnaomiâ:
âFine, but I expect a demonstration at some point,â Naomi warned, flapping a napkin at Teddy. She knew that he was bluffing anyway. Still, she considered picking up the book. She would likely never use it personally, but maybe professionally one day?Â
âDonât worry, Iâm pretty good at napkin swans, too much of a talent not to show off.â He looked at his phone for the time and then nodded at Naomi, âso are you getting this thing or what? Was gonna get take out on the way homeââ I know, youâre looking to get a cookbook and I want to order out but, I think itâs better that way donât you?â The witch grinned, âbetter not to burn down my kitchen and leave it to the professionals.â

remiduvalâ:
âDid I say youâd done anything to me?â She countered, completely over this conversation. âYouâre banned from The Frey for reckless endangerment and manslaughter. I donât associate with spineless weasels. Is that clear enough for you, Monsieur Antonov?â
âI feel like youâve misjudged me, Remi because one, manslaughter refers to killing humans and last I checked, vampires were already dead. Which everyone seems to forget. As far as spineless weasel is concerned, I didnât force anyone to buy anything and anyone with half a wit wouldâve known they were faulty rings. It wasnât like I was doing a great job of hiding that anyway. Besides, how many people have sold shady shit at the Frey? I literally canât be the only one. And third, youâve decided to hate me without knowing me, Ms. Duvalâ which is more of a shame on your part because for a second, it seemed like youâd be better than that.â
isxdcrxâ:Â
No amount of his laying claim to being unable to cast such magic bothered her, in fact, none of it did. Not with the echoing sound of his heartbeat on the rise that seemed to flood every sense that heightened all the more with the fresh blood now swarming within her form. A tidal wave of little more than a far off siren, beckoning her towards the shore when sheâd almost always preferred the lingering freedom of fresh air and sea. It was crippling, beyond so. Twisting in the pit of her stomach with the conscious effort with what might have been left of her rational mind to pull her back. Perhaps nature would always win out in the darkest moments when facing nurture head on, the slow movement of Teddy backing up not nearly bothering her much as predatory hues followed his every move barely from volition of her own. It was a sight sheâd seen before, the effortless extension of hand and limb as if it might have stopped her, or anyone like her. Sharp and purposeful, he turned on his feet â lost for the capability to wordlessly keep her at bay any longer, and as quickly as Teddy made for the door, she stood before it, blocking his immediate exit. âWhere are you going?â Near autonomous, hues flickered to the hammering pulse of his heartbeat in the crook of his throat. âYou really donât have to leave.â
Teddy didnât have to be a genius to know this was a fucking terrible situation to be in. But there he was, wondering how the fuck heâd gotten into it all the same. He was halfway down the hall, about to fly down the stairs when Isadora was before him and the look on her face wasnât one heâd ever seen before and one heâd never hoped to see and this was why he didnât fuck with vampires. Fucking fuck. Jumping back, Teddy raked his brain for any spell that could be useful, any charm and cursed himself for not practicing more. Magic was a part of him, sure, but he didnât do much with it. Just bullshit tricks and shit to make his life easier. Never anything to save it. Not like he needed to now.
âLookââ Isa....I donât...you donât want...â he was practically fumbling over words that wouldnât comeâ it was like grasping for the right key in the dark. Nervous laughter escaped, as though he was attempting to defuse an impossible-to-defuse situation. âI want to go....you....you should go back. You had a snack already right?â It was probably vulgar to call the lady sheâd murdered a snack but he was flying by the seat of his pants for real this time and shook his head, still trying to think of a spell that could help him. âSo...Iâm gonna go. I have to work.â Lie. âAnd you donât want me to get fired, right? I donât want to get fired.â Possible lie. âSo...letâs just...stay cool and let me leave...okay?â
the-darling-miss-davenportâ:
âWell yeah Iâm that special. Iâm a fucking unicorn of peopleâ She teased, despite being serious when it came to her own worth. She loved the attenton being a Davenport brought, even if know it was a double edged sword. She was in plain sight when it came to the attacks and she had to start being more careful â I was referring to you being special without me, darlingâ Del explained shaking her head. It was the weird grey area where they operated. They had seen eachother in vulnerable situations, so it didnât bother her to be complimentary to Teddy. She was fond of him in her own way. The blonde shook her head as he put the book back. â Stealing itâs information. This isnât like a libraryâ she teased. â I donât know if youâve noticed but I eat out a lot because thereâs barely anyone cooking in my kitchen. But I have plenty of stuff in there to make a pretty good night if youâre intrigued?â Del explained before shrugging. âI wont blame you for something I suggested. â She laughed.
âYeah, I guess you are but,â he snickered, âitâs not like you need anyone to tell you that. Surprised you havenât floated off with that ego yet, Del,â the witch teased before rolling his eyes, âlaying on the flattery now are we? I mean, I wonât complain. And câmon, how many books do you think theyâve sold? They have websites too... whatâs the difference before taking a picture of this or just googling the recipe? Answer: there isnât one.â Teddy stuffed his phone away and grabbed her arm just as one of the store associates was heading their way, âconsider me intrigued, letâs go.â
kennedytxllisâ:
âDo you really have to state the obvious? Itâs not like I donât know what happened on New Years, Theodore. Maybe I just wish someone would actually confide in me. Iâm a good friend, and youâre a terrible one. Why am I helping you again?â Pulling open the door to his apartment complex, she followed the other witch inside. âYou sure youâre okay before I hijack this recipe and make your mother disown you?â
âAgainâ you love a project. More than anyone I know, Ken.â And, to be honest, Teddy didnât mind being someoneâs project for once. Most people saw him as a lost cause and Kennedy hadnât gotten there yet. Or maybe she had and was just bored. He wasnât sure if that was a bad thing either. âI think Iâll live. Besides, my momâs not leaving me much to begin with.â Not locked up in federal prison anyway. He kicked off his shoes and shrugged off his jacket, tossing it over a chair as he walked to the kitchen. âYou want something to drink or are we keeping this strictly professional Tallis culinary academy?â

self care is getting so drunk that you forget you hate yourself
rubypetersonâ:
Looking from the other witch to the street as she took a drag from her cigarette, she gave a slow nod. She didnât have anywhere to be, this was another witch, and an interesting one at that. Safe too, heâd helped her once, he wouldnât have if he intended any harm. âYeah, food sounds great.â
*
Fifteen minutes later, a basket of fries in front of her, Ruby looked across at Teddy after setting the saltshaker back on the table. âSo no acting and no parties lately. What do you?â It was polite fishing as she reached for the bottle of ketchup at the end of the table and shook it gently. A slight smile pulled at the corners of her lips as she popped the cap on the bottle and squirted some ketchup into the corner of the fry basket. âBesides stay safe.â At least after that last mishap.
âStand up comedyâ he snickered, clearly joking as he dipped a fry into his own little container of mayo. An abomination to some fry purists, maybe, but since when did Teddy fucking care. âNahââ kidding. I donât knowââ what does anyone fucking do, you know? Eat, sleep, drink, sleep some more, work, repeat. Iâm sorry to say, I wonât be the most interesting person youâve had the pleasure of speaking with.â It didnât help that, since the last time heâd seen the blonde, it felt like life had taken a massive shit on him and he was still sitting in it. The slump of his shoulders, the shaded shadow under his eyes, the general lack of light in his smile. Teddy was clearly a man lost in a city of people and he wasnât sure if that bothered him or not. Maybe that was part of the problem.Â
âLooking for a new job actually.â He said it before he could really think over the words, not sure why he was sharing with her anyway. He hardly knew Ruby. But perhaps thatâs why it was okay. She was safe. They finish eating fries and probably go their separate ways until fate had them bump into each other again. âWeâll see if anything happens but,â he shrugged, nodding at her, âwhat about you? When youâre not New Yorkâs best tattoo artist?â Said in jest but he imagined she was talented. She had that sort of...vibe about her. Was that the right word? Aura, maybe. As if Teddy could fucking read auras.
