Tell Me Why X3

I’d say the reason why what’s bad about the game at launch is plateauing and even decreasing is a combination of trial and error, scaling back, and the devs running exedra more like magireco. 3D magireco isn’t even a bad way to think of the game’s current workflow (even with different mechanics) as a lot of the initial intent of the game falls apart when trying to adapt content that isn’t base Madoka Magica. It’s broadly an issue of trying to cram so much story into a single level that lacks variety that causes so much fatigue with the labyrinth system (as that’s more built for screenshots and less built to be an interesting and intuitive 3D level). Base madoka also had an advantage of having multiple past 3D games, that worked out a couple different ways to make the labyrinths 3D, and since the magireco labyrinths are designed more around being 2D backgrounds, they only have the setting art done for the anime in backlog to exist as true set pieces to work with and translate to 3D, this is why the sandbox witch’s labyrinth has such a different design philosophy to other magireco witches. Regardless I think what they’re doing for crescent memoria is much more stable than what they were doing before in exedra, the writers seem most comfortable with the magireco cast.

Really I think the next big thing that’s gonna change the workflow is the probably release of the rebellion labyrinths, or however they try and hype up the oncoming movie (as a lot of marketing is in place to start heading to the final stretch or at least what they expected the movie to release, given that madoka is back on Netflix and they’re running collabs and a lot of merch). The company that makes madoka; Studio Shaft, is notoriously extremely bad with scheduling and management (they’ve had a few mass exoduses historically and current animators are not being treated the best also) so who knows where anything is going at this point.
