Was trying to look for a specific panel and what do I find? Ryoh in the original japanese referring to himself as ore-sama. I feel like I knew this already but it's funny to be reminded of it again, especially because Ryoh has Sukuna's voice actor.

And of course, the very next panel of this is Innocent Zero:

Ryoh being the strongest DV because he has IZ's blood would've been part of this but also...

I don't remember anymore when I started thinking this but up until the moment Ryoh attacked Doom, I wasn't sure if he was a good guy or not. Like I said, the two panels above come right after each other and I think that happens again at some point. The visual aspect of that while their magic lines are so prominent made me think that they have a deeper connection.

And it would've fit the story, too. Giving Ryoh a complicated backstory, IZ another way to mistreat his family this time over generations, comedy because Mash would be Ryoh's uncle, and the best of all would've been emotional distress for Ryoh because he would've had fucked up family duties on one hand but genuine responsibilities, friends and his own family on the other.

I honestly believe that Komoto played at least with idea of Ryoh and IZ being related early on. Then he cast that aside to not overly complicate his story in the last arc.

But I still vividly remember how I was at the edge of my seat when Ryoh came down those steps towards Doom, not knowing whose side he was really on. I mean, the guy just straight up disappeared for a long time while everyone else was fighting their individual battles and then losing badly against Doom. What did he do in that time??

While writing my Rayne/Orter fanfic, I came to the point where Rayne becomes a divine visionary which forced me to seriously deal with the strong and idealistic ambitions I wrote Rayne with which he canonically has, but which stand against a system that doesn't care and can't be changed.

That last chapter I wrote was entirely about Rayne... bending the knee to that system because that's what happened in canon, right? Rayne achieved the highest rank a single person can hold but it didn't serve his biggest ambitions. Instead he was folded into the system with only some small ways he worked against it.

The framing we have in this panel with Rayne and Wahlberg puts that ambition equal to Mash's that spans the entire story. Rayne and Mash are paralleled and so is their ultimate vehicle to achieve their dreams and ambitions.

But with Rayne we see something: Becoming a DV doesn't help you realise your dreams. It's fake. The title is meaningless if your dreams and ambitions aren't part of the system.

And so it's no wonder that in the end, Mash refuses to become a divine visionary as well. It doesn't serve him. He gets nothing from becoming the next star praised and prayed to like a god. Just living his life the way he wants with his friends and family in the open is more valuable to his dreams than dealing with an oppressive system while being an active part of it.

Mash Burnedead

Mash is 100% AroAce. I love seeing people ship him with Finn and others but in my heart I just cannot stray from the fact that he both entirely ignores Lemon’s advances and the fanbook saying that, when asked for his type, Mash answers "I'm not sure because I grew up in the woods" which, of course, could very well be interpreted Alloromantically, but I choose to believe in AroAce Mash supremacy forever

Lemon Irvine

Lemon has so much love in her heart for everyone. Just because she has a crush on Mash doesn’t mean she can only have a crush on men. I refuse to believe her attraction is limited to only one gender. Pansexual queen!!!

Finn Ames

Finn my beautiful TransMasc Unlabeled king. He was actually my first Mashle character to hc as trans, and it was definitely in part bc he reminds me of myself and I’m TransMasc :) Anyways though, him being Trans just makes a lot of sense for his character and behaviors, and adds more intricacies into his dynamic with Rayne which I think is fun. I also believe he’d not care too much about labeling his sexuality. He likes who he likes and that’s kind of all that matters to him.

Lance Crown

Gay man. Not much more to say about that tbh. Conceptually I just can’t imagine him being romantically interested in a woman. It doesn’t feel right. I can also see Demiromantic in him but I’m not so inclined by it to officially add it to the list.

Dot Barrett

Dot is so Bisexual. I could also see Omni for him with a preference to women but in my heart i believe it’s actually equal attraction/no preference, but he’s so unbelievably dense he doesn’t realize it and just thinks all of those guys he can’t get out of his head is because he’s jealous and he hates them (also true, but he doesn’t notice that he has a crush on top of that).

Abel Walker

Abel is very much so a Gay man. Similarly to Lance, I can’t really see him having any interest whatsoever in women. However, he DOES have interest in Abyss.

Abyss Razor

Abyss is both Gay and Gender Apathetic. He doesn’t really care about gender much. As an AMAB though, he’s inherently male aligned, but doesn’t personally have an attachment or interest with it. He doesn’t care if he’s referred to as a male, given he typically is, but if referred to femininely he wouldn’t mind either. He’s only attracted to men, and is fine with calling himself Gay despite the technicality of not being a male.

Love Cute

Love I actually used to hc as a Lesbian with CompHet, but I think Bisexuality fits her better. She’s just obsessed with people loving her, that doesn’t mean she’s not actually attracted to them at all. Anyways though, even though we only see her show attention towards men, that’s just bound to happen with a series with such a minimal female cast. I believe that not only would being romantic with a woman benefit her, it’s also likely for her to have that attraction alongside having it towards men. Also I just think her being TransFem fits her vibe and she gets euphoria from having men be attracted to her.

Rayne Ames

Rayne is a Gay man in the same way Lance is. I don’t really have anything to say about this one. It just kinda exists tbh.

Domina Blowelive

I think estrogen would save her and I will die on that hill. It’s just such a real hc to me I forget she isn’t canonically a woman. You know how crazy it’s gonna be when she gets animated and everyone calls her a man?? It’s just not right!!!!!! Also, Omni was just kind of a vibe thing. I don’t have an explanation for that one. It just makes sense to me. Fem pref btw.

Cell War

Cell is too queer vibed to not be queer. They are so NonBinary in my heart it’s actually crazy that they aren’t canonically NB like Margarette is. Also, they’re unlabeled sexuality-wise. Same as Finn, they like who they like and that’s kinda it.
