No one asked for this, but I’ve made up my mind: I’m going to explain Thyon Nero’s actions in the first volume of StD.
TW: I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT defend what he did. No one has the right to hurt our little Lazlo.
Anyway.
First of all, you should know that Thyon Nero grew up in the world of the nobility. “That’s so cool, then.” NO. In that environment, love, happiness, or joy don’t exist. It’s all just a pretty scheme to get what you want. And ever since he was a little boy, they placed enormous hopes (my god, the weight of an entire kingdom!) on our little Thyon Nero, who is forced to succeed or risk being beaten by his father. We’ve told him since he was a child: “You’re the one who has to help us; you’re the smart one, you’re the hero.” So he has devoted his entire life to fulfilling all the expectations they had of him. This also explains the self-harm: the scars are the only thing not controlled by his father, the other nobles, and the whole world. It’s the only thing that proves to him he’s still alive; it’s the only concrete thing in his “perfect” existence. But why did he reject Lazlo’s help when he needed it?
Because everyone told him that HE was the savior.
So when an unassuming librarian who appeared out of nowhere offers to help him after witnessing a scene he should never have seen, Thyon panics. Indeed, because in the wonderful world of the nobility, no one helps others “just because they need it.” Help always comes with a favor in return, or some ulterior motive. So Thyon starts overthinking; he tries (in vain) to figure out Lazlo’s scheme—why he would do that, what his goal is, and so on...But the fact is, Lazlo has no goal. So Thyon decides to take the initiative. He steals Lazlo’s dream, tries to rile him up, to push him into revealing his plan… but it doesn’t work. On top of that, Lazlo is accepted into the delegation for Amezrou! Thyon gets even more upset, but doesn’t know how to react to Lazlo’s actions. Why?
Because even though Thyon Nero, the golden godson, the prodigy of Zosma, seems perfect and seems to have everything he wants,
no one has ever been kind to him.
So, to sum it up, even though our golden godson has shiny, radiant hair the color of sunshine, in his mind, Thyon is still a little kid in the dark who’s afraid of his father’s anger.

Okay who out there has read Strange the Dreamer? Thyon and Lazlo should be together right?? Why are they not??? This was the perfect enemies-to-lovers shared-childhood-trauma set up WHY IS IT ALL GOING SO STRAIGHT ALL OF A SUDDEN????
My one complaint about Strange the Dreamer is the fact that Thyon and Lazlo don’t get together.
