I really like it when horses look like this
I keep having to remind myself horses are real animals and sometimes theyâre normal and then sometimes horses just do this

Sultan the Pit Pony is a 200-meter-long, raised-earth sculpture made of 60,000 tonnes of coal shale in Caerphilly, South Wales. Designed by Welsh artist Mick Petts, the colossal work of art is known as the largest figurative earth sculpture in the United Kingdom.
@becausegoodheroesdeservekidneys
Amazing.
More accurately, the real life Sultan the pit pony was the last pit pony to be brought up out of the Penallta Colliery when it closed. The earthwork uses spoil specifically from Penallta, and it was designed and named in Sultanâs honour as a tribute to all the equine workers of the South Wales coal belt
The real Sultan was a bit of a local celebrity, by all accounts, and in his retirement was taken around local horse shows as part of parades or opening ceremonies or what have you. So, when the art was designed, the locals and the artist both named it after him.
Itâs very cool being there; itâs actually so big you canât tell what it is from the ground. There are picnic benches in his nostril
In a mixed mind about this! So it is an amazing piece of art, and itâs good that people are honouring the pit ponies and an important piece of local history, and I know they were well looked after (all things considered) and that they saved human children from doing the job instead, and were integral to the economy⌠But I canât help thinking of the lives of those poor ponies, kept underground most of the time. Even the miners got to go outside back to their families every night, but the ponies were stabled down there, they only got occasional holidays where they could see the sun, eat fresh grass and feel the wind in their manes ;_; Heart breaking, really. Just thought Iâd mention it!
Well, yes, hence the sculpture. It was built to honour the ponies BECAUSE they lived horrible lives, especially before the laws that were brought in to protect them. Thatâs the point of it
By the end of the collieries, the ponies came up to surface once a week. Itâs worth noting, though, that for most of mining history, they were better treated than the human workers on multiple metrics; better fed, but also not sent into dangerous shafts in case of collapse. Mine owners were very open about it - ponies were expensive, but people were replaceable
The ponies arenât what stopped children going down, though, that was the advent of child labour laws. Kids very much worked in the mines alongside the ponies, as either runners, door keepers, or explorers of smaller seams. The poniesâ job was to haul the heavy carts, which kids couldnât do
HEY. HOW DID YOU GET SO BIG.
WHAT KIND OF DOG ARE YOU.
I HAVE QUESTIONS FOR YOU.
[video description: a Dalmatian following a horse that is white with black spots. end description.]
this is, btw, probably extremely fulfilling for this dog.
Dalmatians were supposed to be hunting dogs at the founding of the breed, but what they mostly became bred and used for was carriage dogs.
A carriage dog is a dog whose job it is to run alongside a horse and carriage and prevent anyone from interfering with it. They were excellent carriage security. Nobody could reach up and grab the horses reins, nobody could try to open the carriage door - you could even park with peace of mind
This is also how they became known as firehouse dogs, because fire trucks used to look like this
and i imagine having a carriage dog was very useful to prevent even well-meaning members of the public from doing anything stupid to the equipment or horses while you fought a fire.
So the dog in the video is probably feeling very Job Well Done about his activity
I think horses should have fingers. I think it would make everything more exciting.
Ooh, I can jump into this bandwagon! I have some horsey fingers to share!

Thank you @daftari !!

horses made me transgender
Story time to explain this
-thereâs a horse where I work named Lucy who HATES men
-like âbite your face offâ levels of hate
-enter me, whoâs been having gender thoughts but not really realizing what that means
-Iâd been avoiding Lucy because I quite like having my face not bitten off thank you
-Then one day I forget that she hates men and I go into her stall with her to clean out the poo
-She Doesent Hate me but I donât think anything about it because I donât remember that sheâs sexist
-Someone walks by and comments on how she never lets any men in there
-âha ha weirdâ
-internally Iâm screaming âholy shit holy shit holy shitâ
-thoughts that Iâve been having suddenly start to make sense
and thatâs how I realized I was a girl
#afbh #assigned female by horse (via @chucktaylorupset)
so THIS is what a "horse girl" is
I wish i could have more than one pinned post
donât really use this blog anymore but I think itâs important to say iâve been on HRT 3 years today. thank you Lucy <3

thinking about the japanese racehorse who was such a failgirl she became a folk hero for losers
legitimately everything 2 me
when i was little and i went to church people would talk about âfearing god.â they would use ââfearâ to describe like a way of respecting him while understanding his power and i never knew what that  meant until i met a fucking horseÂ
This⌠went in a completely different direction than I thought.
Horses will do that too - go in a completely different direction than what you thought. Itâs one of the reasons theyâre feared.
