The Boys - 'Though the Heavens Fall' - S05E06
a funny thing about having a Problematic Blorbo is that you'll periodically come across a post along the lines of "um let's not forget that [Blorbo] is a bad person..." listing their various crimes, and if you have a modicum of intellectual honesty you find yourself nodding along and saying yeah it's true... but it's the greyness of their character that makes them so compelling... At the same time though you have a little Saul Goodman in your ear going "your honor in their defense: who cares like omfgggg who caresssssss like come onnnnnn"
the way he lifts his cape up when he sits down like holding ur dress up the stairs <3

this is foreplay to them
The more I think about the ending the more flabbergasted I am by the choices to portray it as happy and the Boys as satisfied and accomplished. When the one that won the day was Stan Edgar and it went so smoothly for him that looking at the breakdown of events, it is as if he planned it all.
He helps arrange for Soldier Boy to get turned over to the Russians. This leads to the creation of the depowering blast, which later conveniently results in Kimiko getting it. And for further convenience, Stan also gets Soldier Boy back but safely contained this time.
Kimiko is only a supe because Homelander trafficked V to produce supervillains to help him help Madelyn, Stan's protégé. This also helped Stan in his attempts at selling the idea of V supersoldiers to the military.
There were some hiccups along the way (V going public, Homelander discovering Ryan), but all proved to only be temporary setbacks as the finale showed. Even Victoria Neuman's death was acceptable collateral. Stan adopted her to serve his ends after all and when she became inconvenient, he was fine selling her out to the Boys to save his own skin. You win some, you lose some. And Stan won so big in the end that it's as if he lost nothing at all. I bet Sameer and Zoe joined back up with him too because the writers adore Gus Stan. The identity of the particular chess pieces Stan had to sacrifice to get what he wanted did not phase him, as he is unchanged and he is right back on top.
Stan is freed from his biggest problem now that that botched experiment is eliminated and firmly back to serving his interests in death, purely as a patsy now. He can point to Ashley and Victoria as well should anyone think to examine his actions (though no one will), because they were the ones on television. They were the ones embroiled in the conspiracy, not Stan -- he was framed, see, and he promises that Vought will be better back under him. That's good enough for the Boys and President Singer it seems.
The worst part for me is that this really went so very well because Ryan worked exactly as Stan wanted him to eventually. A contingency in case Homelander went off the rails. Ryan performed just as Vought wanted him to in the end, as he was the deciding factor in the Oval Office fight. Homelander is off the board and his secrets (Stan's darkest secrets, evidence of Vought's great evil) died with him.
There is a godlike character in The Boys. His name is Stan Edgar.
Another thing that breaks my heart is Ryan wanted to stay with Homelander in S4 and Butcher was going to let him.
Ryan: "I'm not sure I want to leave. I kind of like it there. Parts of it."
Even with Homelander's issues, childishness, and occasional tantrums, he still managed to be a decent dad over three years.
Butcher: "Now, if you're telling me, I mean seriously telling me. That the place you feel safest is with Homelander...then I ain't gonna stop you."
I just...for...I...a;dsklfjs;dklfjsad;kfjlsdaklfj. I can't.

One of those fandom things that I love is when there’s new characters around and, with the unwavering confidence of an old farmer appraising cattle, fanfic authors take one good look at them, tilt their imaginary hat, and go “Aye. Praise kink, that one. Mighty case of praise kink if I ever saw one.” And everyone else just “aye.”
Not to mention the plot tropes.
“I don’t think the Highschool AU is going to come in too strong this year. Fandoms a touch jaded for that. But the hurt/comfort is growin’ thick as weeds and twice as fast. It’ll be a good harvest, fer sure.”
@cynaram
“I hear over at [neighbouring fandom] they’re putting the top field into fix-it fics.”
“Yes, ‘twould be. They had a hard season last year, a right hard season.”
“You think I ought to plant a little Sailor Moon Wild West AU? Don’t know if anything would come of it. Might not make it to harvest.”
“Won’t know until you plant it, will you?”
“Ah, a heritage crop.”
The shipping forecast.
The Fandom Almanac
“I think I’m going to sow some rarepairs this season. Don’t know what the market for ‘em will be, but I can eat ‘em if nobody else wants to.”
Petition to start referring to fanworks as ‘produce’ and stop calling it ‘content’.
Produce = Fresh. Tasty. Nutritious. Contains some ppm of Love.
Content = Lifeless. Sterile. An obligation.

I don't usually post the boys stuff but my great meme got removed from r/theboys twice so I figured why not
Is kinda messed up that Ryan never got to meet his aunt and grandparents and that Butcher and co never allowed Becca's family the chance to properly grieve or even learn what happened to their daughter?
Did Becca's sister ever saw Ryan next to Homelander on the TV screen and just had a strange gut feeling that there was something deeply familiar in the boy's face? Or did his grandmother looked at his poster and for a second he saw her husband's nose on the kid?
Like am glad MM took Ryan in but he is/was as much of a stranger than his actually biological family and while i can imagine it be traumatic to learn all this info (and how ryan was conceive) i think i would have snatched my missing/dead daughter's child into my arms for a chance of feeling her warmth again.
Agreed. They probably only found out when they visited Becca's grave and found that someone had her headstone changed, lol. Billy really sucks as an in-law. If I were Rachel, I'd have my sister exhumed and reburied elsewhere to get her away from Billy.
If her body is even there, that is. We never learn what happened, though my headcanon is that Billy retrieved her body from the woods and had her buried in that plot. But it's not like any of the Saunders would know that, so they'd be in for a shock if they ever tried to move Becca's formerly empty coffin and her headstone.
It really would not be unreasonable for the Saunders to go, "Fuck that guy and his team. The Milks can expect a petition and summons for custody within the week."
Agreed. It sucks that her family was completely forgotten about after S1.
Were they never told? Which is so shitty of Butcher. But also in character.
Were they all killed in the Freedom Camps? Possibly.
Did the writers forget they existed? Probably.
