The Canadian government pays the oil and gas industry $3.3 billion dollars a year in subsidies, despite the Prime Minister promising to reduce carbon emissions and take real action against climate change. Social Responsibility for the residents of the city they live in should be the main focus on the minds of all municipal politicians. This means taking care of our garbage, providing us with transportation infrastructure, and keeping us safe. Keeping us safe; that's a term that most politicians would consider the job of the police. For the most part, the police do a pretty effective job in doing that. Protecting us from crime and those poisoning our streets with drugs and things of that nature cause, well there bad for us, right? I mean they can cause real damage if people consume them. These are controlled substances and illegal. With that in mind I often think to myself, why haven't they arrested the local grocer? The convince shop owner who sells us products that are poisoning us as well? Things that are creating catastrophic numbers of people getting diabetes, cause behavioral problems in children and are seriously taxing our health care system. Then again that wouldn't be right to go after the retail store owner. These guys are the small fish. The police always let the little guys go to try and get the real source of the problem, the wholesaler. The King Pin responsible for putting these harmful products on our streets. Well it seems I'm not the only one who feels this way. Yesterday four cities in the US did just that. #SanFrancisco #Oakland #Albany and #Boulder all voted a #SodaTax to strick a blow against the #BeverageIndustry. A 2% tax against the distributors of these harmful products. This obviously doesn't stop them from selling them and people from consuming them but what we hope it will do is to get them to start to look towards healthier alternatives. The end game of course is to eventually get these products all off the shelves of every store. Ban them and then people can't harm themselves with them. Most people think of Yoga as a class at the YMCA or some place women go with bright colored mats and Lulu Lemon outfits. That's what modern day marketing and the fitness industry had spun it off to be. It comes from a spiritual system of Vedic and Yogic Knowledge to alleviate suffering and remove pain. It was created to allow healing through self knowledge. Yoga was to deal with spiritual suffering while Ayurveda was designed to deal with mental and physical suffering. You don't need a special outfit or fancy mat to practice Yoga. Truthfully, all of this commercialism has taken it away from its original form as it places stress on the individual to go to the best studios and to have all these expensive items or they feel self conscious about their appearance and judged by others in the class. It's crazy how we can take a traditional form of healing and turn it into a something that completely contradicts the original intent. This is the organic seal of approval for Canada. In order to get this a Organic Farm has to operate under organic regulations for a 3 year period. This is a long time for a small operation as it's running costs are much higher the conventional farming. And in that time even though they are adhering to organic standards, they can't sell their products as "organic" and get the organic pricing to offset the expense of producing organic produce. There are numerous reasons behind this but the biggest is that it takes a minimum of 3 years to get soil nutrients to a level that would meet organic standards. These standards prohibit organic farmers from; • Using synthetic pesticides, herbicides and Fungicides. • Synthetic fertilizers • Adding GMO's of any kind. Including taking precautions from cross pollination from other fields in the area. There needs to be a 25ft buffer on all access points to the corps. • Ionizing radiation • Adding swage sludge • Growth hormones or antibiotics for meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products • Any sort of animal cloning They have to Support; • Biodiversity • Good soil health • Water Quality • Humane Livestock Practices • Renewable Resources • Organic integrity of prepared products at all stages. So when you see this seal of approval on your products you can feel assured that they had to jump through hoops to get it. They are committed and held to the highest standards and testing to keep it. The American and Canadian standards are pretty much on par in terms of regulations. Doctors all around the World are diagnosing their patients as being obese but can offer little to no help on what it is they can do about it. Most MD have little to no nutritional education or experience when it comes to prescribing anything that would benefit their patients. I think most people would be shocked at this.
