See I like Sans but not in the funny meme sexyman way I like him in the way that he promised Toriel to protect a child that was going to be served as a sacrifice from the start because he couldn't find himself to say no to her genuine laughter and sense of humor at every dumb joke they told each other, how he cracked jokes and pranks to make this child feel comfortable while warning them to be careful and reminding them that people loved them and having a gentle heart doesn't make you weak like to this day I still think about "Take care of yourself, kid. Sans Undertale is my friend and I love him
When you consider that he hates promises (this is by his own admission), Sans' promise to Toriel becomes a cardinal point of his arc in the pacifist run. For all the "good food" and "bad laughs", Sans is ultimately a man who's given up. He feels powerless, but it's also heavily implied that it was through his friendship with Toriel that he recently started to get better. Making that kind of promise was one of the first signs that maybe, just maybe, he still had hope.
There's more. In the ending phonecall for the Flawed Pacifist ending (where you didn't kill anyone but all your friends are still trapped underground, right before Flowey tells you to load your SAVE file and get a true happy ending), he tries to tell you something before being interrupted by Papyrus. He never finishes the thought aloud, but if you look for it you can find it there, hiding in the code:

Hi I need some help akxnjz.
Valentine's day is coming up and I really wanna get a Pokemon for this person. (They absolutely love Pokemon so I figured it'd make sense.)
Thing is, I can't find an applin anywhere (yknow, confession galar style) and I don't think I'll be able to get one in time.
Are there any other Pokemon that could work similar to applin?
oh this is very very cute!!!!! but also very hard to advise... i do not really know much about galar customs, i do not know what pokémon might be available to you, and i think also it is hard to get someone a pokémon as a gift if you are not totally sure the recipient is going to be willing and able to care for it, you know? and it is hard for me to be sure what kind of pokémon they would like if i do not know them at all!!
if you are really really certain and determined, i think maybe something like a bounsweet or a cherubi could keep up the fruit theme!! 🍎 a cherubi will be much easier to raise in the long run though 🍒 tsareena are naturally aggressive and strong so a bounsweet can turn into a challenge if allowed to evolve!! or maybe you can do something like get them a little basket of apples with an empty pokéball in it so that if they accept your confession you can find an applin to adopt together!!! 😊 that way you can do a classic confession still while also not risking committing to a pokémon someone is not ready to raise... and it would be such a cute date!!!! 🥰
