Yesterday my dad told me something that I think maybe more people need to hear.

You’re allowed to just do things for fun.

He told me that in this modern society, especially the United States, we seem to have this attitude that we shouldn’t do something unless we’re aiming to be the best at it. If we can’t sing like Beyonce or Frank Sinatra or something there’s no point to singing. If we can’t make the next big breakthrough there’s no point in looking into mechanics and engineering.

But, he tells me, it took him a long time to figure out that life doesn’t have to be a race. If you want to take up the piano when you’re a teenager or later you’re not going to master it. You’re not going to be able to play to huge concert halls, but that also shouldn’t stop you. You can study a language out of curiosity and then drop the ball if you want. You can just get okay at something or even be terrible at it. You can drop it for days or years and then pick it up again and it doesn’t have to be a shameful thing.

I’m really glad he told me that because today I opened my sketchpad for the first time in months and just started drawing. And it looks terrible. But I don’t care. I don’t have the talent or patience or spacial awareness to get anywhere near good at drawing, but it’s fun. It helps me focus my mind and nobody has to see it.

And because of what he told me, I’m thinking maybe someday soon I will take up the bass guitar. And I won’t worry about how well I do, or how fast I learn, or that I haven’t played an instrument since sixth grade, or that I don’t have that much time to practice. I’m just gonna enjoy the experience. Maybe I’ll try swing dancing again and take a class because I’m not the best dancer but damn if it isn’t fun.

Yeah, you don’t have to be good at things. It’s not a requirement. Maybe that seems obvious but it had never occurred to me before. You’re allowed to just enjoy what you’re doing. For me, that feels like a life changing revelation. I don’t have to be good at something to like it. I don’t have to put 100% effort into everything I do. It’s kind of amazing.

This is offtopic, usually I keep offtopic stuff on my other blog (@hidronax-reblogs) but this is something I needed to read. It’s a lesson I’ve been trying to learn for quite a while, and I’m still on my way to do it honestly. I don’t know if it will be helpful for you as well, but I wanted to share it :)

Toa of Plasma OC, Komu. Also nicknamed “Comet” and “Firefly” by his brothers, he’s the leader of his team.

Plasma is another element we never got to see properly in the canon (nor in set form). I like to consider Toas of Plasma very active, always on the move. The kind of persons that get nervous if they don’t do any physical activity for a while. I gave Komu a Miru for aesthetic reasons, but it can be considered a Mask of Flight. I guess he’d look pretty much like Human Torch when using it haha

Toa of Psionics OC, her name is Eon :) Design inspired by a drawing I saw on dA years ago and that I can’t find anywhere. I think it was by @demitsorou.

Some time ago I wanted to make a story with only Toa of weird elements (lightning, plasma, gravity...) and Eon is part of the team. She wears a Hau so that she doesn’t need protection, and uses her power to keep the minds of all her brothers connected during missions. She’s not very skilled in combat, so she often uses her powers to make enemies not see her.

I wish we got to see some Toa of Psionics in set form.

Finally done! My first low poly model (998 tris) made from a box! The texture is somewhat meh as I didn`t have a concept for her outfit so I just did it on the fly. Bad idea.

But, all in all…this is a minor milestone for me! Wheeeeeee!

Prologue page for Hazash's project BIONICLE: Reclamation. It's the first time I draw a comic page following a storyboard, it took me some time but it was fun. I also enjoyed discussing details with him and being able to ask a second opinion. The Biowave Project is a community initiative bringing talented members of the Bionicle community together to develop sets, art and narrative content for an expanded Generation 1 storyline. Introducing Rektan the Dovahkiin!

Here’s my Dovahkiin, a young grumpy Dunmer named Rektan. (I might change the name in the future). He’s often bitter and sarcastic, and sometimes he should hold his tongue. When his father dies of illness, he decides to leave the poor, barren Morrowind and travel the world, looking for a better life. However, he’s caught by the Imperial guards right after passing the border with Skyrim, and finds himself stuck there with all the Dovahkiin stuff going on. He hates Skyrim and the Nords and the cold and everybody, he wishes he could leave, but eventually he’ll learn to accept his role and care for others.
