Tumblr friends, please keep in mind that most of us here are 15 to 20 years old.  Even if you’re 25 and married, you’re still a kid.  That’s how the news would describe you if you ended up there.  I’ve barely just turned 30 and my mom still thinks I’m a baby.  That’s the straight-up truth; let’s not deny that.

So if you’re asking for Life-Altering Advice or seeking the Answers to the Universe through an Ask Box, please consider that even the wisest-sounding person on Tumblr doesn’t know everything.  Most of us have hardly been through much of anything. 

I would actually propose that most “advice”  here is just flowery, modified, spur-of-the-moment, this-is-what-I-would-do fluff that the blogger hardly even follows, and would not work in the gritty reality of an upside-down life.  Most bloggers here don’t care about your well-being, but care about getting reblogs and followers and a fanclub. 

This isn’t to take away from some wonderful, awesome blogs out there.  But use caution.  Don’t be intimidated by some high-dollar vocabulary and think, “This blogger knows the way, so I better ask him or I’m getting it wrong.” 

No it’s spelled Negus.

Not when you are laying around the house, not when you go to the grocery store, not when you sit in a classroom, not when you go to the gym. You are never obligated to get dressed up just so you are pretty for others.

I recently read this in a mini-article in my Archeological Study Bible.

Education in Proverbs is centered in the family and has the good of the individual in view. By contrast, Greek education was centered in the gymnasium and had the good of the city-state (polis) in view.

Education in Proverbs is primarily directed at moral and spiritual virtue rather than towards vocational training. By contrast, some wisdom texts from Egypt are principally concerned with preparing a young man for work in the government or as a scribe.

Education in Proverbs does not focus upon any particular social class. Egyptian wisdom literature, on the other hand, was to a large extent directed to the elite.

Everyone who grows up in church eventually hits a point where they have to make a decision: Either they will take their parent’s faith and make it their own, or they leave the faith altogether. 

I went through it, and chose to believe. But I also had friends who went through it and left the church. And it sounds like you’re at that deciding point yourself now.

So it’s good you’re asking questions. You want to know what you’re getting yourself into before you commit to it.

The Bible acknowledges that sin can seem satisfying – at least for a while. And Jesus acknowledges that following Him is costly.

But Jesus also assures us that lasting satisfaction is only found in Him. And scripture assures us that we’re better off following God.

So instead of looking for “easy satisfaction”, look for what’s true:

Does God exist?

Should we believe the Bible?

And are you willing to give up easy satisfaction for the sake of following Jesus?

That should give you a good starting point. And I’ll be glad to help answer any more specific questions you run into along the way.

Here’s the deal: my first language is Italian. I know plenty of people on this website whose first language is Italian. Nevertheless, when we’re interacting with each other on Tumblr, we speak English.

I am not objecting to this system, it’s actually good practice for some people, to be able to speak a second language extensively.

BUT I HAVE A PROPOSITION FOR YOU.

Why not have a “Speak Your Own Language Day” where all of us exclusively speak in our native language?

(No but apart from the small rebellion from the US-centric and generally Anglophone-centric environment we got here, think about trying to speak to people from other countries via excessive use of Google Translate it’ll be a blast)

Ok, since this post has finally reached 100 notes I think it’s a good time to give a date, and since no one else has advanced suggestions I’m gonna do it

I’m proposing Wednesday 7th May, so the post has a chance to do a couple more laps and more people get a chance to participate (French Friday sounded hilarious, but I don’t wanna wait until next friday and this friday seems a bit too soon).

How it’ll work:

If you’re native language is something other than English, speak that!

If you have multiple languages you can pick from the choice is yous friend, speak all, speak one, whatever’s best for you

You’ll blog in your language all day: text posts, replies, tags (except triggers and organizational tags), the whole nine yards. Regardless of what language people choose to speak to you, you answer in your own.

Midnight to midnight according to your own time zone

English native speakers, if you wanna participate maybe you could practice a second language you’re learning

If anyone makes fun of anyone else for their language (and I’m including English native speakers that might choose to speak a second language on the day) I’m gonna come for you (◕‿◕✿)
