I feel like this is pretty important to realize: the cops are becoming exhausted, and thereâs a limited supply of them. NYPD has every cop on duty working full days every day. We have an unlimited capacity to rotate in fresh fighters that they simply do not have. We can take shifts. They canât.
This is also why weâre starting to see bare minimum concessions now. The powers that be have realized theyâve made a grave miscalculation. A week into it, and ideas that seemed utterly impossible even a month ago are on the table- LA is talking about a hundred and fifty million dollar budget cut for the LAPD, every cop directly involved in George Floydâs murder has been arrested and Chauvinâs charge has been raised to second degree murder, parts of the Minneapolis city council is pushing to permanently disband the Minneapolis police department.
What could we win with two weeks? Three? An organized general strike that brings the entire economy to a crashing halt? It is difficult to feel hopeful in such brutal times, but there is profound hope to be had in the realization that a week of getting our asses kicked has advanced the mainstream narrative around police so much further than electoralism wouldâve dared to dream in 100 years.
They know how much power we have
Do we?
[id= tweet by BisHilarious âI donât know who they think theyâre scaring with this âcurfew will stop when the protests so.â We ainât got shit else to do. This is my job now. Iâll make the whole city a schedule like bitch you protest Monday to Thursday if you canât make it find someone to cover your shiftâ /end id]
This is everything.

35 YEARS FOR A NON VIOLENT DRUG OFFENSE
Fuck you, Americaâs criminal justice system
This is heartbreaking đ
his name is Matthew Charles
Ways you can help:
Donate to the GoFundMe raising money for Matthewâs legal costs.
Sign the Change.org petition asking for clemency (though the efficacy of this is sorely debated)
This is awful.
hey guys, it already worked.
Wow itâs rare to see posts like this with a happy ending.

1. drink whatevers in that beaker. I know you fucking want to.
a few years ago there was an exposĂŠ in the intercept about how, according to the fbi, police departments are so thoroughly infiltrated by white supremacists that it's policy to avoid working with them when possible. just something to think about
Bureau policies have been crafted to take into account the active presence of domestic extremists in U.S. police departments.
I found the article and... jesus christ.
No wonder Donald Trump is so vocal in his support for them
im telling you if gerrymandering gets abolished youâll see how truly progressive the south is. the north is fake woke. trust me.
when i went to go visit minnesota (i was born there but moved to georgia in third grade and lived here since then) i saw a fuck ton of righ wing shit. meanwhile ive lived in georgia and while there are right wing stuff the left FAR outweighs them. dont believe people when they say the north is more progessive cause it aint. this has been a ted talk
you can rebob this let people know that the south is progressive it just that we have gerrymandering problems that screw over the poor ESPECIALLY black poor people!!!!

Every second that goes by brings Julius closer to being executed for a crime he didnât commit.

11 months later my family and I met with the District Attorney John Weddle and Sadie Gardener. Neither of them took the case seriously and it showed because shortly after that my family was informed that Karen Carpenter would not be charged.
On June 7th, 2019, Emerald Black a pregnant, black woman, and her fiance were pulled over by police officers after coming from a doctors appointment.
The officers spoke to Ms. Blackâs fiance while she stayed in the car.
The officers began to order her out of the car. Ms. Black was clearly pregnant and she had let them know  that she had just gotten back from a doctors appointment where she was also  informed that she was at a high risk for a miscarriage. Despite this, the officers yanked Ms. Black, still in her hospital clothes, and threw her to the ground. They taunted her, piled on top of her, and stomped on her stomach causing her to miscarry. The stomp had  also left a shoe mark.
Chrystul Kizer is an incarcerated trafficking survivor who is being charged with life in prison for acting in self-defense against her trafficker.
The punishment that Chrystul is facing for defending her own life signals that black women and girls have no selves to defend.

Look, I get it. There are a lot, it took me 30 min to link everyoneâs petitions. but we have to do more than The Bare Minimum if we are going to root out institutionalized racism, and the Black Community is Done with our insincerity
edited to add: DO NOT donate money through Change.org btw. as a blogger I follow pointed out on insta, the majority of money from Change.org fundraisers does not go to the cause, it goes to Change.org ââadvertising costsââ even though they host ads on their platform to pay for that cost
I hope he wins the lawsuit, a police officer was finally doing the right thing and they penalize him for not being a racist monster!
his name is stephen mader and not only did he refuse to shoot, he actively wanted to help the man (ronald ârjâ williams) because he could tell that he was only acting out because of mental illness. rj williams was suicidal and holding an unloaded gun and, while mader didnât shoot him, a fellow officer (ryan kuzma) did and murdered him on the spot. here is the source and hereâs to hoping rj williams gets justice
âSaying the words âJust shoot meâ sent up the red flag that he was just trying to harm himself and no one else ⌠Thatâs what made me make my decision. He needed helpâ I hate this fucking world. The guy was actually trying to do his job by actually desculating the situation the right way (desculating these days apparently just means shoot them) and was fired for âfailing to eliminate a threat.â
HE WON THE LAWSUIT AND GOT $175,000
I read this whole story. It is wild !! The conversations between him and his ex coworkers about what went down that day đ§đś
Listen to it all here:
A shocking story of police and lethal force. Just not the one you might expect.
when I say there are no good cops, this is part of the reason why.
âgood copsâ lose their jobs for doing the right thing.
âgood copsâ die mysteriously after whistleblowing.
âgood copsâ are forced to choose between their livelihood and becoming just like the rest.
to be clear the first one is the original. i just riffed on it because itâs a powerful message.
And yes MLK said all the quotes above. The sanitized version and image most have of him is wholly false.
I learned in a Latin Studies class (with a chill white dude professor) that when the Europeans first saw Aztec cities they were stunned by the grid. The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization.
When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (now downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that centuryâs london with a working sewage system, artificial âfloating gardensâ (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasnât even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city. The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time.
Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool.
Theyâve also recently discovered a lost Native American city in Kansas called Etzanoa It rivals the size of Cahokia, which was very large as well.
Makes me happy to see people learn about the culture of my country :D
Also, please remember that the idea of a nomadic or semi-nomadic culture being âless intelligentâ, âless civilizedâ (and please unpack that word) was invented by people who wanted to make a graph where they were on the top.
Societies that functioned without 1) staying exclusively in one location or 2) having to make complicated, difficult-to-construct tools to go about their daily lives⌠were not somehow less valid than others.
This is why I fucking hate it when Europeans make jokes about how they have âmore historyâ than the Americas. âThis church is older than your country hahaha.â Actually, itâs older than the country you put there, massacring millions in the process, but go off, I guess.Â

I have ADHD so Iâm immune to podcast
stealing this from @chefpyro 's tags cause same
always thought that it was crazy other folks with adhd couldn't focus on podcasts when i was totally immune from that issue then quarantine happened, i stopped driving long distances every day, and you will never fucking believe what I learned I can't do
Combine the debuffs! do a semi-mindless boring activity while listening to podcasts (e.g. folding laundry, knitting, dishes) and BOOM suddenly you are capable of both listening to podcasts AND doing the thing
the fact that there's an 8 fucking pm curfew in new york is so unfathomably insane to me. like, a city of 8 million or whatever all has to go home when the sun is barely down because cops are that addicted to upholding white supremacy? i was out and some cop drove by and said thru his loudspeaker "go home! what are you still doing out!" what are you doing driving around in a caravan with your lights on fucking harassing people in the street? get a real fucking job
listen living in nyc is wild right now, but the curfew makes total sense when you see it from the NYPDâs perspective.
i was out today 4-7pm, cops surrounding us marching with full riot gear, batons, shields, tasers, the works, and following the march were at least 15 NYPD vans. i kept wondering, what are they waiting for??
they were waiting for the FUCKING CURFEW. as soon as 8pm hits, everyone--EVERYONE--on the street is a criminal, because youâre out past curfew. if youâre out after 8pm, youâre breaking the law. youâre a criminal, and if youâre a criminal, the cops can do anything to you that they want. it is literally night and day. i left todayâs march before the curfew, with zero violence from police, but as soon as night fell, suddenly those very same cops got out their batons and tripped up everyone they could find.Â
the curfew exists SOLELY to give the NYPD a cover for arrests, beatings, stealing peopleâs bicycles, paper spray, tear gas, any of the violent things those motherfuckers fantasize about doing every single hour of the day.
and when you see people argue, âoh if they didnât want to be arrested, they shouldnât have been out past curfewâ THATâS THE FUCKING POINT. itâs a state-sanctioned crack down on otherwise free speech and assembly. they WANT to trap people into âcommittingâ âcrimesâ so they can be violent. they WANT to beat and maim all the peaceful protesters doing the day, and without a curfew, they wouldnât have as many good excuses for doing so.Â
the curfew is only so that the police can commit violence against peaceful, first-amendment protected citizens and scare everyone else into staying inside. itâs a goddamn shame and i will go to my grave ashamed of myself for ever thinking cops are good people.
