Read In Between The Lines, There Was An Uprising In Guantanamo Bay Yesterday
After a mass hunger strike by 44+ of the 166 detainees that started Feb. 6th and years of peaceful resistance, prisoners at Guantanamo Bay have had enough of the torture, indefinite detention and horrid conditions. The lawyers of the inmates insist that the hunger strike in more widespread and nearly every person at the prison is refusing to eat.
Inmates covered security cameraâs and windows and used broomsticks, mop handles and makeshift batons made up of tape and water bottles to clash with guards.Â
The violence erupted during an early morning raid at Camp 6 when guards attempted to end communal living and place all inmates in single cells. According to military officials, guards shot 4 ânon lethalâ weapons at the inmates, 1 of which was injured. Though this should be taken with a grain a salt considering that Guantanamo Bay is where the military is known to torture inmates.Â
It should also be noted that 87 of the prisoners at Gitmo are cleared for release and 46 other prisoners cannot be prosecuted for a âlack of evidenceâ according to the U.S. government. In other words, over 80% of the inmates being held at Guantanamo Bay would otherwise be free.Â
In January of 2013, Obama signed the NDAA 2013 which allows him to indefinitely detain American citizens without charge or trial, which is literally contradicts the constitution, and banned the government from closing Guantanamo Bay.Â
Homeland Securityâs âPre-Crimeâ Screening Will Never Work
The U.S. Department of Homeland security is working on a project called FAST, the Future Attribute Screening Technology, which is some crazy straight-out-of-sci-fi pre-crime detection and prevention software which may come to an airport security screening checkpoint near you someday soon. Yet again the threat of terrorism is being used to justify the introduction of super-creepy invasions of privacy, and lead us one step closer to a turn-key totalitarian state. This may sound alarmist, but in cases like this a little alarm is warranted. FAST will remotely monitor physiological and behavioral cues, like elevated heart rate, eye movement, body temperature, facial patterns, and body language, and analyze these cues algorithmically for statistical aberrance in an attempt to identify people with nefarious intentions. There are several major flaws with a program like this, any one of which should be enough to condemn attempts of this kind to the dustbin.

Fluoride is poison, it's in your water. "Abby Martin takes with a look at the 50 year long practice of water fluoridation in America, outlining adverse health effects and breaking the myth that it helps prevent tooth decay."
The United States of Logic
So let me get this straight
The Steubenville rapists who kidnapped, raped, filmed and traumatised an innocent girl get 1-2 years in prison.
And a homeless mother who wants to send her child to a better school district gets a 5 year sentence.Â
Wow.
Basically.
USA! USA!
California:NO ON PROP 35!!! Here is why!
PLEASE REPOST!
Naomi updates: the law is so poorly written. Sharmin Brock said I would not be required to register as a sex offender based on my previous convictions, however there are other problems in the law that would target sex workers who support eachother or run businesses AND marginalized homeless youth who work the streets together and have no âmanagerâ (like I did when I was 14). Those youth could be charged with trafficking and lifetime sex offender registration and monitoring. People YOU MUST read this entire bill. Donât just count on the summary to do your thinking for you. We are alarmed at Prop 35, and because itâs so badly written and so misdirected it is unclear who will be effected and how! Read the law itself, critiques by California attorneys, and sex worker and human rights advocates to understand how broad the definitions will be. Read about the numerous serious problems with this legislationâŚand try to figure out if you or your friends could be targeted within the parameters of Prop 35. http://www.againstthecaseact.com/. I was very concerned when Naomi Akers emailed me with this message. Of course I realized that the CASE Act would be effecting my community, but I am appalled and hadnât considered that the long time Director of the St. James Infirmary would be a target. Meanwhile, the CASE Act proponents are actually trying to tell us that we just have to trust the police. I am not kiddingâthatâs their talking point. More info at http://www.againstthecaseact.com/.
THIS IS A FUCKING HUGE DEAL
Hi-fucking-larious, Madrid.
Here are the propositions on Californiaâs November ballot. Some of them, like the GMO labeling (Prop 37), are pretty relevant. So pick some to vote for. Proposition 30 (Gov. Jerry Brownâs tax increase plan) Temporary Tax Increase to Fund Education. Increases personal income tax on annual...

The corporate media is again ignoring a major and potentially catastrophic development at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan. Kyodo News reported on March 15 that âthat the clarity of water inside the spent fuel pool of the No. 4 unit may have deteriorated based on a survey conducted by a camera,â according to Tokyo Electric Power Co., the plant operator.
CIA director David Petraeus has said that the rise of new âsmartâ gadgets means that Americans are effectively bugging their own homes, saving US spy agencies a job when it identifies any âpersons of interestâ.
Obama And ISPâs To Launch Largest Digital Spying Scheme In History (Must Read)
If you download potentially copyrighted software, videos or music, your Internet service provider (ISP) has been watching, and theyâre coming for you.
Specifically, theyâre coming for you on Thursday, July 1.
Thatâs the date when the nationâs largest ISPs will all voluntarily implement a new anti-piracy plan that will engage network operators in the largest digital spying scheme in history, and see some usersâ bandwidth completely cut off until they sign an agreement saying they will not download copyrighted materials.
Word of the start date has been largely kept secret since ISPs announced their plans last June. The deal was brokered by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and coordinated by the Obama Administration. The same groups have weighed in heavily on controversial Internet policies around the world, with similar facilitation by the Obamaâs Administrationâs State Department.
The July 12 date was revealed by the RIAAâs CEO and top lobbyist, Cary Sherman, during a publishersâ conference on Wednesday in New York, according to technology publication CNet.
The content industries calls this scheme a âgraduated responseâ plan, which will see
-Time Warner Cable
-Cablevision
-Comcast
-Verizon
-AT&T
and others spying on usersâ Internet activities and watching for potential copyright infringement. Users who are âcaughtâ infringing on a creatorâs protected work can then be interrupted with a notice that piracy is forbidden by law and carries penalties of up to $150,000 per infringement, requiring the user to click through saying they understand the consequences before bandwidth is restored, and they could still be subject to copyright infringement lawsuits.

Response: This is much worse than SOPA/PIPA and ACTA. It doesnât necessarily censor the internet but it spys on everything you do. Your ENTIRE web history will be watched and recorded and might even assist the government. This was coordinated by Obama and his administration with the help of the MPAA and RIAA.
What is so dangerous about this is that this is not a law it is a policy adopted by several companies. That means this will not be debated in Congress and you will agree to be spied on by signing a contract with the company.
Internet censorship is becoming a reality and now the corporate elite will legally be able to spy on you. If we spread this and cause an uproar like what we did with SOPA, maybe they will back down. Either way people NEED to know about this.
