In the modern idiom:
âSo Bob said [âŚ]â indicates that I am directly quoting Bob.
âThen Bob was like [âŚ]â indicates that I am paraphrasing Bob.
âAnd Bob was all [âŚ]â indicates that I am paraphrasing Bob, and additionally I am being a dick about it.
I donât know about you, but I think itâs fantastic that we have a specific grammatical convention for that.
What I find most frustrating is when people donât understand this! I donât know if itâs a generation thing, but sometimes Iâll be talking and say âSo I was like âare you fucking kidding meâ and the person will look at me all horrified and say âyou didnât actually say that, did you?â I said LIKE heidi keep up jesus

Have I told yâall about my husbandâs Fork Theory? If I did already, pretend I didnât, Iâm an old.
So the Spoon Theory is a fundamental metaphor used often in the chronic pain/chronic illness communities to explain to non-spoonies why life is harder for them. Itâs super useful and we use that all the time. But it has a corollary. You know the phrase, âStick a fork in me, Iâm done,â right? Well, Fork Theory is that one has a Fork Limit, that is, you can probably cope okay with one fork stuck in you, maybe two or three, but at some point you will lose your shit if one more fork happens. A fork could range from being hungry or having to pee to getting a new bill or a new diagnosis of illness. There are lots of different sizes of forks, and volume vs. quantity means that the fork limit is not absolute. I might be able to deal with 20 tiny little escargot fork annoyances, such as a hangnail or slightly suboptimal pants, but not even one âyou poked my trigger on purpose because you think itâs fun to see me melt downâ pitchfork.
This is super relevant for neurodivergent folk. Like, you might be able to deal with your feet being cold or a tag, but not both. Hubby describes the situation as âIt may seem weird that I just get up and leave the conversation to go to the bathroom, but you just dumped a new financial burden on me and I already had to pee, and going to the bathroom is the fork I can get rid of the fastest.â
I like this and also I like the low key point that you may be able to cope with bigger forks by finding little ones you can remove quickly. A combination of time, focus, and reduction to small stressors that can allow you to focus on the larger stressor in a constructive way.
I love you, Mr. Murderbritches.

Okay but for anyone who legit wants to know how to calculate it correctly:
The elbow joint on average rests a couple inches higher than the navel, so if you measure how long the distance is from the middle of the shoulder to that point then you have the length of the upper and fore arms!
So if anyoneâs wondering about legs too, the simplest rule of thumb is that the length from the top of the leg to the knee is equal to the distance between the top of the leg and the bottom of the pectorals:
And I wanna stress that when i say âtop of the legâ iâm not talking about the crotch (please donât flag me tumblr itâs an anatomical term) iâm talking about the point where the femur connects to the pelvis, which is higher up on the hips:
Itâs easier to see what Iâm talking about in this photo of a man squatting:Â
So yeah if you use that measurement when using this technique you should get fairly realistically proportioned legs:
But remember! messing with proportions is an important and fun part of character design! Know the rules first so you can then break them however you please!

As someone with multiple bilingual friends where English is not the first language, may I present to you a list of actual incidents I have witnessed:
Forgot a word in Spanish, while speaking Spanish to me, but remembered it in English. Became weirdly quiet as they seemed to lose their entire sense of identity.
Used a literal translation of a Russian idiomatic expression while speaking English. He actually does this quite regularly, because he somehow genuinely forgets which idioms belong to which language. It usually takes a minute of everyone staring at him in confused silence before he says ââŚ.AhâŚ.. that must be a Russian one thenâŚ.â
Had to count backwards for something. Could not count backwards in English. Counted backwards in French under her breath until she got to the number she needed, and then translated it into English.
Meant to inform her (French) parents that bread in America is baked with a lot of preservatives. Her brain was still halfway in English Mode so she used the word âprĂŠservatifes.â Ended up shocking her parents with the knowledge that apparently, bread in America is full of condoms.
Defined a slang term for meâŚâŚ. with another slang term. In the same language. Which I do not speak.
Was talking to both me and his mother in English when his mother had to revert to Russian to ask him a question about a word. He said âI donât knowâ and turned to me and asked âIs there an English equivalent for ĐŃПиСПаŃиŃĐľŃкиК?â and it took him a solid minute to realize there was no way I would be able to answer that. Meanwhile his mom quietly chuckled behind his back.
Said an expression in English but with Spanish grammar, which turned âHow stressful!â into âWhat stressing!â
Bilingual characters are great but if youâre going to use a linguistic blunder, you have to really understand what they actually blunder over. And itâs usually 10x funnier than âOoops itâs hard to switch back.â
I actually experienced something similar to the OP with a coworker who was tri-lingual. He was speaking Russian (his first language)to a patron, then turned to me and started explaining how to do something, also in Russian. I gave him a blank stare, and he repeated himself, again in Russian. I said, âDude, are you aware youâre speaking Russian to me?â and he got the most confused look on his face as he replayed the conversation. Took him a minute to work switch back to English.
