Hey yall I just wanted to come on here and bring some attention to what’s happening at the detention center (really a concentration camp) Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey. There is a hunger strike going on right now to protest the abhorrent conditions within the camp (allegations of torture, maggots and other bugs in the food, etc) and protests happening outside the camp. ICE is not allowing any politicians to come in (as is their right) to see the conditions of the camp. I would urge yall to do your own research, but if you want videos of some people who are actually there, here are some tik tok accounts you can go follow: @ bethanyquilter/ @ whoiskingtrivv/ @ Status Coup News/ @ L.A. TACO
And here is a video explaining what’s going on in more detail than I provided.
With everything else going on in the world, it can be hard to keep up with stuff going on at home, but ICE is still out here terrorizing innocent people. We must keep our eyes on them, and keep fighting.
Feel free to add more sources or info to this post, should you have any.
I found this linktree here that has a master list of ways to help the detainees inside Delaney Hall: https://linktr.ee/SupportOurFamilies
Please support immigrant families by donating to the GoFundMe's below and purchasing supplies via Amazon Wishlist to support detainee visito
I have heard that protestors outside need medical supplies, but I can’t find the best way to provide that if you are not nearby.
their needs are changing rapidly, they mostly need Sudecon wipes and gas masks, last I heard, but the only way is to bring them directly there. for the most part they are asking people to join them there and hold the line, if possible. next best thing is to donate and call NJ reps to demand an end to the detention and torture!
Shout out to trans women who aren’t computer scientists or musicians or avant-garde artists or whatever.
Shout-out to tgirls who work at Taco Bell. Thank u queen, society would collapse without you
Over twenty years ago my big brother got me a job at a Taco Bell in the St. Louis suburbs-West County. He warned me that it was the “gay Taco Bell”, but since I was coming from the “gay Howard Johnson’s” I wasn’t shocked. It turns out it was the black trans women Taco Bell complete with black trans women in management. And they’d worked out an arrangement with the local teen Narcotics Anonymous group so that twice a week we would shut down the drive thru and the dining room and exclusively serve 60+ teens in various stages of recovery. And many of the women I worked with were in various stages of being out or transitioning and they were from all generations from teens to over 50. One woman I worked with had a regular corporate job presenting as a man 9-5 Mon-Fri and then came to Taco Bell and worked 6pm -2am Friday and Saturday night so she could be herself surrounded by other black transwomen in those stolen weekends. And we had customers come from all over the metro area because they knew they could be themselves in the dining room. I only worked there from 1999-2001 but for young me, this was a vital, formative experience. Some of the girls came from north city all the way out to the “gay Taco Bell” on Manchester in west county because they heard it was safe to work there. Like- I know times have changed but they haven’t changed much in 20 years. I’m still convinced that for lgbt youth, finding a job at your city’s version of the “gay Taco Bell” is key to survival.

Me: "Damn people are REALLY BAD at knowing when to tag their eyestrain art/images...either that or they just don't care about photosenitive epileptic people like me. I feel really sad now." Person: "But Allison, what if they just don't know or understand what qualifies as eyestrain and what doesn't?" Me: "You know what? That could be a factor...While it is always better to be safe rather than sorry (so YES people should always tag eyestrain even if they're unsure if it "counts" or not) maybe you've got a point?"
Anyways! HERE'S YOUR HANDY GUIDE TO WHAT CAN COUNT AS EYESTRAIN! I'm pulling this straight from the Artfight rules page about what needs to be labeled and filtered as eyestrain because it's VERY helpful and VERY accurate! I also know not everybody has an AF account and might not always have access to this handy guide, and this is an important resource; That's why I'm sharing it here! (under the cut)
PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!!! THIS IS ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OTHERS!!!
by the way this is medical. this could save somebody from a migraine all the way to a seizure. this has always been serious. treat this seriously.
before you open that read more do be warned that the rules under the cut includes example images of several types of eyestrain

For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.
i love being single except every few months when i want to be loved so bad that it eats me alive and makes me physically ill for two weeks but like the rest of the time im chill
i do have to say that no matter how shitty any sort of media is or how shitty your own creations are. always remember
A reminder that sell-buy dates or best-used-by dates are not the same as expiration dates.
I love that a food bank is providing this info as they are experts in stretching food budgets and knowledgable in shelf-stable food items
So I followed the link to the website and found the longer list.
The website puts a link to the USDA site which links to foodsafety dot gov who really wants you to use the app, but you can bypass it.
Also a link to the Canadian government's advisory on best-before dates.
Both sites have links to pages that get more into food storage.
As it is food drive season I'd like to remind people that while food might be edible past these dates, food banks and food pantries will not use food past those dates, so please don't waste their time by donating things they will not use
do not taste plants if you don't know what they are
do not identify a fruit as edible just because it tastes sweet
hope you didn't eat any fucking seeds, bro
And today, we have this winner:
I saw the photo in my feed and went ohh, dude, no, we do not handle yellow rocks with our bare hands until we know for sure what they are. And I know that orange...
In comments, they continue:
and that's where I started cussing at the computer monitor. But someone else had got there first:
So just as a reminder, folks. If you don't know what it is, don't put it in your fucking mouth!
YOU GODDAMN STUPID MOTHERFUCKER
Legendary forager and wild food advocate Euell Gibbons (wrote “Stalking the Wild Asparagus”) gave very good advice for dealing with unknown plants; Before you eat any, its characteristics should be as clear and familiar to you as the differences between an apple and an orange at the grocery store.
I will add:
- Apps like Seek are often good at helping to narrow the identity of a plant down to its family or genus, but very often fall short of an actual species ID (I should specify, they fall short of providing a *correct* species ID. Most will be extremely happy to give you a species ID, even though it is patently false). Once the app gets you close, it’s time to crack open a field guide or consult an expert.
- Speaking of field guides; BEWARE OF ANY PUBLISHED POST-AI. I’m serious. Once people figured out they could generate whole books using those bloated chatbots, foraging guides (which had experienced a surge in popularity following the threats of food insecurity during the beginning of the COVID Pandemic) were one of the first genres to be overloaded with ai slop. Look for trusted authors like Samuel Thayer, and publishing dates before 2023.
- A good field guide should offer detailed verbal descriptions of the physical characteristics of various plants, using specific botanical terms, and will often contain a glossary with definitions of those terms. It should also feature maps of the known growing ranges of those plants, and ideally, photographs of the plant during various stages of growth, and at different times of year.
- Start slow. Learn a handful of “easy” plants or fungi that have distinctive characteristics and few toxic lookalikes, and learn them well. Learn the toxic lookalikes as well as you learn the edible species.
- Once you are confident you have a positive ID, try a little bit and see how it agrees with you. Just because it’s “edible” doesn’t mean you aren’t allergic to it.
Learn Your Land and Black Forager are excellent references for foraging information, especially the ecology, ethics, and history of the practice.

last week’s request: mcr on the muppet show <3
There is something sooo deeply American going on with Seattle Children’s Hospital that I think would brick the minds of everyone outside of the United States.
The CHILDRENS hospital has to restrict helipad landings because of noise complaints from the wealthy home owners living next to it. Only the most urgent patients can land directly at the hospital. While the other kids have to land a mile away and are taken to the hospital via ambulance. Which is an unnecessary risk to the child’s life and also makes the families pay for the helicopter AND ambulance.
The hospital says some limits on helipad access add pressure when children need lifesaving care.
Apparently this has been going on for decades and is only getting traction because a pilot complained on Twitter.
Does anyone know what to do

I have a stomach ulcer… and my pain gets worse every day, like a fire is burning inside me and won't go away.
I'm constantly tired, and the pain wakes me up at night and stays with me all day… even the simplest things are exhausting.
The medication is available, but it costs around 500 euros, and I can't afford it.
My health condition can no longer tolerate delay… The stomach ulcer is making me more and more tired every day, and if I don't start treatment as soon as possible, it could cause more serious complications.
My pain is increasing, and I can't afford the medication… Please don't leave me alone; your support, or even just sharing this post, could help save me.
Therefore, I ask everyone who reads my words:
If you can help me, donate, or even share my story with others, please don't hesitate. Your support now could help me get back on my feet after this tragedy.

sorry I just remembered when someone sent me an ask the last time i mentioned my mom talking to her financial advisor being like "you have a financial advisor how fucking rich are you wtf?" you know your bank offers meetings with financial advisors for free right.. you can just walk in and ask to speak to someone and they'll give you advice... like you need to know that is something most people can access... help
Another place you can get legitimate free or free initial meeting and then low cost financial planning/programs especially with paying down/off debts, or saving for major expenses is a licensed credit counseling agency (sometimes also called a DMP or debt management program). One of the licensing orgs is the NFCC or National Foundation for Credit Counseling. They're non-profit organizations and are not scummy so they don't have the money to advertise as much as all the shady and terrible companies who claim they'll help you but are trying to fuck you over.
Anyways the biggest donors to these nonprofits are usually banks because they're that good at helping people with finances/getting out of debt, and can help you across various companies (like if you have credit cards with x but a car loan with y, etc. they can help you get hardship arrangements with everyone all at once, but your bank is limited only to themselves).
https://www.nfcc.org/ various DMP's can be found through the NFCC, and almost all of them have a free consultation and most of their websites also just have free financial advice or blogs or whatever. Some of them offer specific additional kinds of advice or help - retirement planning, home buying, etc.
Editing to add:
My advice is USA specific but lots of other countries have non-profit credit advising/counseling programs of some kind
Here is the (government) consumer financial protection bureau website article What is Credit Counseling?
The relevant bit: "Most credit counselors offer services through in-person meetings at local offices, online, or on the telephone. To get started, you can try the Financial Counseling Association of America or the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. You can also view of a list of approved credit counselors through the U.S. Department of Justice." The FCAA is the other licensing agency.
This is the list from the DOJ of approved credit counseling agencies with regards to Credit counseling/debtor education (usually this comes up as a requirement when filing for bankruptcy, but they also offer other counseling services.)
Also, financial advisors are awesome at just…advising you about how finances work!
I contacted my bank for a meeting with an advisor for a rundown of how finances/credit cards/etc work when I became financially independent, because nobody teaches these things in high school. I also met with a financial advisor when I was about to get engaged because my spouse and I wanted advice about navigating marriage and separate/shared expenses(his MtG card collection vs our rent).
“Financial advisor” sounds like a term for someone you only work with if you’re part of the 1%, but actually it’s awesome for most people - including those of us who are figuring out their financial footing!
omg you people can do anything
