“I promise to always keep it 100, on the land, the sea, the sky… and in the bedroom,” he says with a wink.

Karlie cringes and rolls her eyes at the laugh it elicits from the crowd.

“I’m just messin’, everyone. But really, Tay Tay knows I just love having her by my side. And 87 can’t be 100 without 13.”

God, he’s an idiot.

“It’s been so great to have my biggest supporter at my games. She’s just brought so much awesomeness into my life, and that’s because she herself, is awesome. As everybody here, and around the world knows it and sees it in everything she does, of course.”

Karlie eyes Taylor. She sees her tells. Her lip is just slightly quirked - not enough anyone else would notice but enough to mimic the invisible lip biting she’s prone to. She’s nodding her head in a cadenced manner, meaning there’s a rhythm going through her head, a coping mechanism for panic. She hasn’t blinked in like 30 seconds - she’s trying to focus.

She’s terrified.

Taylor smiles widely as the preacher turns to her, asking for her vows.

“Fuck this,” Karlie whispers under her breath.

Levi gasps, “Mama!”

Karlie looks down at him, “Shoot, sorry. God, I’m so sorry for this, Levi. You’ll understand one day.”

“What? Mama, what are—“ Levi stares in confusion as Karlie stands abruptly.

“Don’t do it, Tay.”

Taylor’s eyes snap to Karlie’s. And an audible gasp reverberates around the room.

Hundreds of eyes land on Karlie. And it’s her turn to panic.

“Oh, this is embarrassing.” Levi mumbles, and sinks down into his seat.

Should’ve chosen Elsa, buddy.

Karlie locks eyes with Taylor and holds them. She clears her throat and steps into the aisle.

“I guess now would be a great time to say… I am not the kind of girl who should be rudely barging in on a white veil occasion…”

[ “Oh my god!”

“She did NOT!”

“Fuck, yes, you owe me 50 bucks.” ]

Taylor breaks into a smile.

“But you are not the kind of girl who should be marrying… him.” Karlie points to Travis, who looks like he just got hit over the head with a frying pan.

“Don’t make the same mistake I did, Tay. You deserve something real.”

[ “LAVENDER! I FUCKING CALLED IT.”

“Hush!”

“Taylor is not gay, oh my god.” ]

Taylor drops Travis’ hands. “Real? That’s not— That’s not,” she clears her throat, “possible… for me.”

Pity sighs make their way around the room like the wave at a football stadium and Taylor rolls her eyes.

“But, it could be?”

Taylor squints at her, doesn’t speak.

“You see, I know someone who has been real in love with you since they were … not even of legal drinking age.”

Taylor smiles broadly.

“That didn’t stop her from hitting those wine bottles.”

[ “HER!?”

“Oh, catch up already, Sarah!” ]

“She used to need a bit of liquid courage to talk to the girl of her dreams. Now she can interrupt her wedding on pure adrenaline, apparently.”

Karlie shrugs.

[ “Oh! Oh my god!”

“Oh for Christ’s sake, Sarah.” ]

“Kar… it’s been years.”

[ “See!? Years! Not together, you psychos.”

“Fuck off, Hannah.” ]

“Who could stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames… if we know the steps, anyway?”

[ “This is so gay.”

“I know, I’m obsessed.”

“Guys, I think Hannah passed out.”

“Good, leave her there.” ]

“Mama.” Levi steps out. “Is Taylor why you and Daddy broke up?”

[ “Oh my god, the dramaaaa, I am eating this uppppp.”

“Shut. Up.” ]

“Wait… what is he talking about?”

Karlie swallows. She looks between Levi and Taylor.

“I—“

She looks back at Taylor.

“Meet me at the back. I’ll tell you everything. Just…. Don’t say ‘Yes.’”

Their eyes lock. And Karlie sees Taylor’s silent nod that no one else would ever notice.

More gasps erupt as Karlie turns and grabs Levi’s hand.

“Come on, let’s go talk.”

Levi adjusts his bow tie and clears his throat, and walks confidently down the aisle, besides Karlie.

“Sorry for that interruption, folks.” He says and the crowd bursts into laughter.

[ “Oh my god, he’s so cute.”

The city’s abuzz with the news. Everyone’s been talking, waiting, wishing for this day.

Taylor Swift finally ties the knot.

She wishes it was as magical as it’s all played out to be. It’s not.

She has got to marry a man before they put her out to pasture. Or so she’s convinced herself. And it’s easier to tie someone down who has no desire to be honest about their real personal life.

This way she can stew in her own misery of cat hair and sourdough and seasonal cycles of acquaintances-with-benefits, which has gotten really old, but is seemingly the only option for someone like her. Who else wants to hook-up with a closeted 36-year old popstar? Besides other closeted popstars and actresses and… models, of course.

But it’s always the same story. Sign this NDA. Go out in public with your fake boyfriend. Close off before it ever gets anywhere real. Acknowledge you both need more. Hook up anyway. Make it awkward. Repeat.

Taylor’s eyes scan the table cards for tomorrow’s big day. They stop when they hand on the name that still makes her heart thump.

She stares at the name plate, smirking at the one missing last name.

Oops. Totally accidental. Definitely a mistake by the wedding planner.

She’s the wedding planner.

Taylor was shocked when Karlie reached out to her after the invites went out. She was certain she’d get a hard, “no.”

Instead, she got a, “Could I bring a plus one?”

Taylor went ghostly white when she read the text message, before it was quickly followed up with — “Well, more like a plus 0.5, he’s kind of short.” — and a picture of Levi throwing up a peace sign.

Levi wants to come?

Karlie

He’s a big fan… of both of you.

Taylor

Oh, yeah, of course. He might be bored, though?

Karlie

He’s literally a mini gentleman. But in all seriousness, my mom is taking Elijah to Disney on Ice that night and apparently Levi is still pissed ever since he realized they’re not the actual movie characters.

Taylor

He’s right. That’s such bullshit.

Karlie

Right? What do you mean the Elsa that’s skating is not a cartoon??

Taylor

Preposterous. Okay, but what about Rae? Do we need to upgrade to a plus 0.75?

Karlie

Oh my god, my Dad wants to babysit her. Girl Dad has become Girl Grandpa. Thankfully, the boys are oblivious to his Rae-favoritism. But I also begged Kariann to help him because God knows what he’d try and feed her.

Taylor

Rae does look pretty damn cute, can’t blame Kurt for falling. Well, I’m glad you can make it. Can’t wait to see the little guy. It’s been a while.

Karlie

I know. It has.

Taylor

You actually going to talk to me at this wedding?

Karlie

Nope, plan to just catch eyes with you and quickly glance away all night again. Wait, that was you.

Taylor

It was not! You kept being shuffled around by all your snotty friends. It was a glance- and then you disappeared- not anything else.

Karlie

MY snotty friends? You were at the same wedding, honey. And okay, well, I’m sure you won’t have a lot of time to talk, but would be great to get a short catch-up in.

Taylor

Would love that. The actual wedding is going to be a bit crazy… maybe the after party?

Karlie

We’ll see. Mama is tired in her old age. I did hear a rumor you invited the fans hahah.

Taylor

That’s… not not true.

Karlie
