Shortly after I left the vet, I looked up at the sky and I saw what looked to me like the outline of his face and his little nose.

hittin’ carpeted floors

runnin’ to the kitchen for more

(even though you’ve been fed,

so rude of that to be said)

if it’s each morning I wake

to my phone’s alarms

instead of vocal charms

and scratches on my arms

(or my hair being pulled

because I dared to press snooze)

that makes the whole house fall

coming home alone, no you to call

only memories on the wall

(and echoes of your welcome pleas

to remind me, you’re so mad at me)

I don’t know

when it’s gonna hit me

like a bullet to the heart in the movies

while a train’s flying past with my rubies,

like a song with the words written for me

but I can’t seem to hear the melody—

the ending’s wrong; the score’s not done,

in life and death, the show goes on,

even if we don’t, even if you won’t…

and you won’t.
