finally (FINALLY) figuring out my knitting machine (thanks to my stepgrandma) and ive managed to get over the hurdle of the stupid rowcounter (onto which the yarn threader has to be attached, so not using it isnt an option, which sucks bc its a whole Contraption) and i've knit a couple of ribbed rows now but figuring out how to use a single bed on this machine... girl help 😭 at this point i've figured out (i think??) that this machine uses the front bed when singlebedknitting (which i think is such a silly design thing bc the yarn still has to be attached to the back carriage so like what's the point) but i'm having a massive issue with tension and/or the settings i'm using on the carriage. the stupid manual is in french, which i do speak but this is such specific vocab that i don't know what half of the words are actually referring to

we're over halfway through 2026. what are everyone's most beloved books of the year so far?
Ada is almost like an anti-house of leaves, it's footnotes being written by the same people as the main narrative (in a way I'd include the notes at the end in that but that's on a different level) constantly trying to clarify and almost neurotically wanting to document their life, to really archive it statically. Neurotic because they don't want to be misunderstood and will spend pages ensuring that they aren't, except that they have created this language of references that, as much as van tries to translate them for an audience, is so incomprehensible that what should be straightforward is so dense with misunderstandings (or opportunities for misunderstandings at least). They're so stuck in their own language they don't seem to realise it's alien (and also they're working with references we don't even have to begin with, but that's more meta than what van himself is doing)
