My headcanon of the day is that Ilya is not used to getting calls from family members unless they need something from him. Nobody ever calls him (maybe apart from Shane) to just simply check up on him. So the first time David calls him on a random day of the week, asks him about his day, hands the phone to Yuna to do the same—Ilya is a little confused as to why these people are just randomly calling him. He even texts David after they've hung up to confirm if they needed something and have just forgotten to mention it. When David texts back "no son we just wanted to check up on you" Ilya sits and stares at that text until he feels his throat close up and there's an odd sting in his eyes.

so here for the idea of shane controlling the feral dog that is ilya when they both play for ottawa in a way where ilya is still annoying cocky rozanov on the ice but he knows if he gets in a fight and gets cut up shane will be disappointed and not let them have filthy hot hard sex till he’s healed and he can’t let that happen so he behaves but what’s even better is when shane lets go of the hypothetical leash around ilya’s neck and gives him permission to just fuck someone the fuck up on the ice. ilya will look at shane after some bigoted hockey douche on the opposing team says something that is just not ok and shane’s eyes flick from the bigoted douche to his husband and says “okay.” and then ilya just pounces on that bigoted douche and shane watches with a smirk and sparkle in his eye as his russian dog rips out someone’s throat
