I do wonder if I'm just a bad feminist, but this was tough for me.

I'll stick to my issues with how the documentary was made. I believe (meaning my opinion) the filmmakers were too passive, way too passive, (that's me putting this as kindly as possible) while making this. I think this situation requires some extremely tough questions being asked, some kind of confrontation of the woman at the center of all this. Some questioning of her, her mindset, her beliefs, her thoughts, her actions, her religion, her family. Questioning of anything that happen that day and over the next 30 years. But it seems like the filmmakers knew that if they started to push her, or ask those questions at all in their documentary, she would either shut down completely or become unsympathetic to her audience. I completely understand the filmmakers wanted her to 1) keep the cameras rolling and 2) remain sympathetic and remain a victim (of society, of mental health, of her family, of her religion, of a conservative community, of the police, of the state) but it leaves a lot to be desired as far as documentaries go.

This is a tragic tragic case and instead of any real look at either side we get a lot of...nothing really.
