mundane, every day things i dont understand about the usa (note this is not necessarily criticism, i just don't understand, or the systems I've lived in are very different. i mean these in good faith.):
-why are your public toilet doors so small and open? that's weird. everyone can see through the gaps even if they aren't trying to.
-why don't you all have kettles? much easier to boil water in than on the hob.
-lack of bike lanes despite having very very wide roads.
-HOAs. why are other people allowed to tell you what to do with your house and garden? try that anywhere else and you'll be told to fuck right off.
-almost no buses. why. you have too many roads to not have buses.
-sororities in general. why.
-on the university note, why do you have to share rooms? weird. you don't know this person.
-the drinking age and driving age? driving age seems too young and the drinking age too old. they don't make sense. why is a child on the road but an adult can't have a beer?
-pledge of allegiance. that's weird. most people i know don't even know the national anthem of their country.
-university application letters seem to be based more on pouring your heart out rather than your academic credibility and drive for the degree you intend to take- on that matter, you don't seem to apply for a specific degree in many cases, just the uni? how is this a good model? unis cannot estimate class sizes in this model.
-what is a gpa? why is extra credit allowed? realistically you can't score 105%, why is this a thing?
-"cat distribution system" 90% of the time I see these videos, people are literally just stealing other people's cats. unless it's a kitten or clearly a street cat, leave it alone? it's fine. it's probably just gone for a walk.
-not including VAT on shop prices. the number i see should be the number I pay. otherwise that's false advertising??
-why does everyone seem to have a lawyer?
-no one has trees in their gardens? or even flowers? I've seen no normal usa garden with a pond. surely this isn't more of that HOA bullshit?
-do school safeguarding policies not exist.....? why am I seeing teachers videoing their classrooms or students, or students videoing their teachers?
-why do PTAs have so much power? they are not trained in running schools and should not have this.
-why is there no regulation for homeschooling??? or set curriculum??? these kids are going to be so fucking dumb???
-calling the police for no reason? idk I've seen too much stuff of people having the police called on them because their neighbours were annoyed at them or something? why would you do that? I think you might actually get fined if you did that here, for wasting police time.
-can you pet raccoons? they seem friendly.
