we’re taking trigger warnings away from tumblr users until you all learn to manage and process things that make you uncomfortable in a healthy manner. trigger warnings on common triggers are a courtesy and you aren’t owed shit. learn to control your emotional responses like adults

trigger warnings for rape and death and blood and stuff are reasonable but like, we're not going to start trigger-flagging insects unless the insects are actually doing something scary. those are outside. you need to be able to comfortably exist around insects to, like, be a person who does things, because that's where the insects are. trigger warnings for dogs is reasonable if it's Cujo or something, but you aren't gonna be able to live a live that entirely avoids dogs even if you dislike them and you gotta be able to play through that phobia if it's a thing you have. avoidance isn't a strategy for anything

Something I see getting overlooked a lot when discussing queercoding in historical media is that in many cases it's not evidence that the writers secretly shipped it; it was aimed at straight dudes specifically to freak them out. Depicting a male villain as sexually interested in a male hero reads as horror to the cishet male audience. Like, Venom didn't spend years and years being blatantly characterised as Spider-Man's creepy stalker ex because Marvel's writers were all closeted yaoi fans. That was meant to be scary – which of course doesn't mean you can't read it differently, but don't give them credit they don't deserve!

idk man sometimes i like it when video game writers are allowed to plan a series of events that happen in a specific order and affect each other in turn to become an overarching narrative, and i don’t mind trusting those writers to take me through those events in the order that is emotionally effective. i don’t really care if a game forces me to go through the forest area first before i can attempt the icy area because maybe there’s things that happen in the forest area that inform later scenes in the icy area. maybe we don't need more superficial player choice open world concepts if it comes at the cost of the ability to write a story with actual significant plot events and character development in each section

one of my worst writing sins is abusing my power to create compound words. i cannot write the sentence "The sun shone as bright as honey that afternoon." no. that's boring. "The sun was honey-bright that afternoon" however? yes. that sentence is dope as fuck. i do not care if "honey-bright" is a word in the english dictionary. i do not care if the sentence is grammatically correct. i will not change. i will not correct my erred ways. the laws of the english language are mine.
