i know i don't shut up about william riker but. no actually i won't apologize. he's one of the best portrayals of healthy masculinity in media that i have ever seen (and i watch a hell of a lot of tv.) yes he's a leader but he also laughs at himself for playing the trombone badly. yes he's confident but he also open and compassionate. yes he sleeps with a lot of women but he also genuinely respects them as people. and none of these things take away from his action-guy persona or his sense of identity. plus his beard is fucking awesome.
