One of the most important aspects of Geet's character is that she cares. She cares about the man she met on the train not having a ticket and almost falling onto the tracks, and she cares when he gets off on a random station. She befriends a handsome man and thinks about how she can set him up with her sister to make her happy. She notices when Aditya seems down and tries to pull him out of it. She might be a serial yapper, but she listens when it counts, even if her opinion often shines through words she tries to make comforting.
Yes, Geet is flawed, like any good character is. She effectively uses Aditya to imply an affair to get out of her marriage with Manjeet, which Aditya takes in good humour but still must bear the consequences of. She blames Aditya for her missing her train a second time, though in my opinion I think that is her responding as a woman alone at night who is painfully aware of the danger she could be in, and that her only chance at safety is also a man who she does not know that well. She is impulsive, often not considering other people when following her heart. But she does care.
A big moment is when Aditya drops Geet off at her family's house for the first time and tells her that he plans to leave. You can see how Kareena Kapoor plays it - fearful worry, from how I see it. But what is she to be worried about? She isn't aware of the Manjeet problem until later, and in fact bringing a boy home would bring up questions (which it does). I think in this moment, we see how perceptive Geet actually is. She understands the depth of his depression post the break up, might have even put the pieces together that he was considering suicide. She is afraid to leave him alone because she is a good friend and she cares.
There is more hints of Geet's perceptiveness. When she's about to leave her family's house to run away to Anshumun, she looks guiltily back, then promises that she will beg for forgiveness once she is married. She apologizes the moment she asks Aditya if it was his mother that ran away with another man. She is completely aware of her habit of speaking without thinking, acting with a disregard for the consequences. She is not just a naive manic pixie dream girl. She is a complex woman who maintains a bubbly outlook on life.
What explains Geet is what she tells Aditya while hiding from her family, that she follows her heart regardless of what would happen because she wants to make sure that whatever happens in life, she will only have herself to blame, and no one else. Geet doesn't want to live with regrets, and she also wants to take full responsibility of how her life turns out. She wants to get married to Anshumun, not roll over and accept her family's insistence that she marry Manjeet. She might not have a neat, clean way of going about things, but deep down she doesn't want anyone to bear responsibility for her life.
In fact, her loyalty to Anshumun being what drives most of her decisions is often underdiscussed imo. Even with rich famous Aditiya flirting with her, she insists to remain with Anshumun. She is a one man woman. She is willing to upturn her life and relationship with her family just to remain with Anshumun, which is what makes his harsh response to her devastating. He does not reciprocate her devotion to their relationship. He does not care as much.
But Aditya does. Aditya flirts with Roop to make light of the elopement Geet was suggesting earlier on in the movie. Aditya cares about where she has gone after nine months despite knowing she is devoted to another. Aditya does not betray Geet's secret of loving Anshumun and insists everyone ask Geet for her opinion on the marriage. Aditya cares just as much as Geet does.
Which is why they are perfect for each other. They influence and help each other grow - Geet helps Aditya soften to his mother and become more joyful, and Aditya helps Geet recover from Anshumun and think about the external consequences of her actions - and they are both devoted. At first for other people, and then to each other.

Leaving your classroom after your final midterm exam felt like a gust of fresh air blowing directly towards your face.
Liberating, is what youâd call it.
Youâve spent nights studying for exams that could make or break the GPA youâve spent all throughout your college life protecting, and now that theyâre finally over, you feel like you can finally breathe and life makes sense again outside the constant pursuit of your academics that take up most of your time recently.
Except, you canât breathe much.
Because for one, youâve managed to catch a cold in between studying and writing notes, and your immune system is finally cursing you after youâve stayed up and pulled all-nighters consecutively without reprieve.
You feel a fever brewing, but your priority is getting sushi from that sushi place near the campus dorms you like. Youâre supposed to go there with your boyfriend, but heâs also wrapping up a few of his exams, so the two of you agreed to meet up later in an off-campus apartment that you share with two of your closest friends.
Sushi in hand, you sniffle as you start walking, and you hate how congested you suddenly feel. Your body is heavy, and you ignore that slight sway in your step when you exit the campus gates and walk for five minutes until you reach your apartment.
By then, thereâs a certain warmth to your skin, a flushed heat that you hate, because youâve planned a movie night with Leon to make up for all the nights you both spent away from each other because you both made a schedule for studying that left no possible gaps for you to hang out for more than forty-five minutes.
So when you arrive inside, you toe off your shoes and place them in the rack, and immediately make a beeline for your bedroom. Your two friends are out, and theyâll be back later at night after their own post-midterm blowout.
You refuse to accept the fact that youâre not feeling well, because one, youâve been terribly missing your boyfriend, and two, you want to spend time with him without anything holding you back. But it seemed the universe (and your body) had different plans, because when you change out of your clothes and wear something comfierâone of Leonâs university sweatshirts and cotton shortsâyou know that the heat you feel isnât just because of the weather.
Coughing, you fumble towards your dresser, searching for the thermometer you haphazardly placed somewhere in one of the compartments. Leonâs arriving soon, and you want to make sure he doesnât suspect much, or else heâll postpone your movie night and instead tell you to get some rest.
After using the thermometer, the small screen read: 37.9 degrees celsius.
Itâs officialâyouâre sporting a fever.
But just as the temperature dawns on you, you hear knocking on the front door, so you toss the thermometer on the bed and rush outside, even if the quick motion is making you feel nauseated.
When you open the door, youâre coughing, your hair slightly all over the place, but you look presentable enough for your boyfriend not to mind your sickly appearance.
âHi,â you greet Leon. âCome in, youâre just in time. I was just setting up the projector.â
Leon smiles, though he can immediately tell somethingâs amiss.
He steps in and presses a kiss to your lips, before pulling away. Heâs carrying a plastic bag filled with your favorite mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders, and even a small pizza box for you to share. Heâs holding your favorite drink as well as his own on the other hand in a to-go cup-holder.
âHeyâŠâ he murmured softly, pecking your mouth again, as if he just canât get enough of your lips. His ears turn slightly pink, but you donât notice. âSo what are we watching tonight?â
You lead him inside, closing and locking the door behind you. Seeing Leon does make you feel a bit better, but the throbbing of your head and the heaviness in your body just make it difficult to think about anything apart from the fact that youâre going to be sniffling and coughing all night.
When you reach your dimly-lit bedroom, you tug him a bit, before closing the door. Leon stands by your bed, and you spread a cloth over your comforter where he can place the food and drinks.
âI was thinking about that new chick flick you mentioned last week? 10 Things I Hate About You?â you tell him before you start coughing. âSorry. My throatâs just dry.â You smile wryly.
Leonâs just watching you. Despite the facade you put up, he can see right through you, despite the fact that youâve only been dating for eight months. He sets down the food and starts unpacking it, before he takes off his shoes and climbs onto your bed, sitting cross legged while you finish setting up the projector, angling it so it projects the movie onto the blank wall in front of your bed.
Once itâs up and running, you play the movie from your laptop and it starts streaming. You sit next to him, your shoulders brushing, and you have the instinct to lean into his shoulder and fall asleep.
Not wanting to ruin your movie night, you push through, even though your body feels like itâs made of lead, and your throat is itchy. Your voice is sounding more congested, which is why youâve kept quiet when youâre usually chattering to Leon about your midterms.
You snuggle close to him thirty minutes after the movie starts, inhaling his scent, something like fresh laundry, warm and clean, and his own cologne. Leon, in turn, wraps his arm around your shoulders and pecks your cheek, but he feels the warmth of your skin, and he pauses.
âY/N⊠youâre burning up.â He mutters, his brows furrowing together. Before you could deny, his hand is already coming up to feel the skin of your neck. âYou have a fever, why didnât you tell me?â
The words die down your throat, because you sneeze, and then you start coughing, to which Leon responds immediately, his hand rubbing circles over your back.
âHey⊠hey⊠itâs okay, youâre okay,â he whispers in your ear reassuringly. He starts to push you gently over the pillows. âCome on, you should lie down.â
You shake your head, your stomach twisting uncomfortably. âI donât wannaââ
âY/N, nowâs not the time to be stubborn,â Leon tells you, almost as if talking to a child. âYouâre sick, and you shouldâve told me. I couldâve gotten medicine on the way here.â
His tone makes you feel almost guilty. You donât want to worry him because tonight is supposed to be date night for the two of you, and you ruined it by omitting the fact that youâre actually feeling worse right now.
âI just didnât want to ruin our night together, weâve barely hung out the past few daysâŠâ you answer him, lips curling into a pout. âIâm sorry, I just want to spend time with you.â
Itâs not an excuse, and you know it. He couldâve caught what youâre going down with too. He couldâve gotten sick because of you.
The movie is left forgotten in the background, the dialogue becoming indiscernible murmurs. Leon reaches for your warm cheek, thumb brushing circles over the smooth skin. âI know⊠I know, itâs okay, Iâm not mad at you. Iâm just worried.â
âYou know we can still enjoy a night together even though youâre not feeling well, right?â He asks softly, searching your gaze. âI miss you these days, and I want to spend time with you, but not at the expense of your health.â
You feel slightly chastised, and you meet Leonâs gaze with your hesitant eyes. âI know, I just thought itâs a small cold⊠Leon, Iâm sorry.â
âShhh⊠itâs okay,â he leans in, planting a soft kiss on your temple. âYou have nothing to apologize for. Just let me take care of you, okay? And youâre not drinking anything cold right now. Itâll hurt your throat.â
That makes you pout even more. âLeeeeon,â you whine as he denies you your favorite cold drink. âBut I waited all week!â
âI know,â he murmurs, leaning down to peck your lips again, which you recoil a bit, mindful not to infect him with your cold. Leon notices this and he pauses, looking like a lost puppy. âWait⊠did you not like my kiss?â
âWhat? No,â you answer immediately, reaching up to squeeze his cheek. You canât miss the way his lips almost turn into a pout. âI just donât want you to catch my cold, babe.â
Leon flushes a little when you use a term of endearment on him. Though, he just shakes his head then plants another kiss at the corner of your lips. You donât move away this time, though a part of you tells you that you should, for his health and yours.
âI donât mind,â he says, âIâd rather catch your cold than not be able to kiss you.â
As much as you try to deny it, his answer is sweetâand it makes your heart ache in a good way. Even in the face of your cold, Leon is still just thinking of your sweet lips on his, apart from your well-being.
Pausing the movie, you climb onto his lap, and Leon wraps his arms around your waist, gazing at you with those blue eyes that make you shiver. Youâre hot to the touch, a telltale sign of your fever already starting its course in your body. âI still want our movie night.â You insist, pouting at him.
âAnd you will get our movie night,â he reassures you. âI just need to take care of you first, okay? No more cold drinks first. Iâll put your smoothie in the fridge so you can drink it when youâre feeling better.â
He leans in to peck your forehead. âStay here, Iâll just get you some medicine for that fever and cold. Whereâs your medicine cabinet?â
âIn the bathroom.â
âOkay. Just⊠stay put for a sec, okay?â Leon looks at you with those puppy eyes of his that you just canât resist, so you nod. âIâll be back.â
He disengages from you for a while, and you wait in bed while he takes away your favorite drink. Youâre disappointed, but not enough to not listen to your boyfriend right now. Somehow, being all sick and feverish makes you a little more pliant towards him.
You snack on the food he brought while waiting. Leon returns after a couple of minutes with a glass of water in one hand, and a small box of medicine on the other. He sits on the edge of the bed and places the glass of water on your bedside table.
âOkay, what are you feeling right now?â He asks you, his gaze focused on the pill box, rummaging through its contents. âWait, letâs check your temperature first.â
Finding the thermometer near your pillows, he uses it on you. You oblige, sitting next to him while he takes your temperature and asks you all sorts of questions about how youâre feeling.
âSore throat?â Leon looks at you, his gaze filled with love and worry.
âNot really,â you say before coughing.
He hums, brows furrowing when you cough. âHeadache?â You say yes. âRunny nose? Congestion?â You nod at him.
The thermometer beeps. It reads, 38.1 degrees celsius.
âThatâs a low to moderate-grade fever,â Leon murmurs, holding the thermometer, before setting it aside. âIâm giving you ibuprofen, and then lots of water. Weâre resting afterwardsââ
ââButââ
ââThough weâre still watching movies,â he interjects quickly, wanting to reassure you that he isnât going to postpone your movie night. âI just want you resting beside me, is that alright?â
Thereâs something in you that wants to object. That this fever isnât anything bad, and that you can handle it because youâre a grown adult now, and you donât need anyone taking care of you like youâre a little kid.
But when it comes to Leon, youâre listening to his every word, not because you want to appease him, but because heâs clearly showing you just how much he cares for your well-being and you want to receive that love and care with open arms. You donât have to be so hyperindependent around him, not when he takes it upon himself to make sure youâre well taken care of no matter the circumstance.
You finally nod. âOkay, if thatâll help.â He hands you your tissue box when you sniffle, along with the glass of water and ibuprofen. âBut youâre not taking my mozza sticks away from me,â you tell him.
Leon laughs softly, watching as you drink the medicine, your throat working as you swallow. âWouldnât dream of it, pumpkin.â
Pumpkin?
How cute.
Leon always tries different terms of endearment with you, and he doesnât settle on just one pet name. Noâitâs as if heâs just discovered all these words and wants to try them out on you. Pumpkin, baby, sweetie, baby girl, loveâthe list goes on.
Not that you minded anywayâyou found it endearing.
With his help you guys place the food on a foldable table next to your bed so you can stretch your legs. You hold the box of mozzarella sticks on your lap, the duvet pulled onto your waist by Leon himself. He settles right next to you, one arm around your shoulders while he continues playing the movie.
He would pepper your cheek with soft, feather-like kisses, just shying away from your lips. Leon always does thisâshowering your face with affectionate pecks and smooches, especially now that youâre not feeling well. He wants to give you as much comfort as he can, and that especially manifests through his touch.
âComfy?â he asks you after a while, the bucket of mozzarella sticks on your lap empty so he takes it and sets it on the floor. âYou really love these mozza sticks, huh?â Leon chuckles softly.
You hum in contentment, resting your head on his shoulder as you cuddle closer to him. âYeah, theyâre my favorite.â You tell him with a soft smile. âThank you for getting them for me.â
âYou donât have to thank me.â Leon answers you gently. He nuzzles into your hair, before smooching it. âItâs always my pleasure to get you anything your heart wants. And if my girl wants mozza sticks, then sheâs getting mozza sticks.â
That makes you laugh a little. With the medicine taking effect in your system, you can feel yourself getting drowsy, but youâre less feverish than you were a while ago. Even then, your body is sluggish, almost heavy in its nature, so youâre slumping against Leon, cuddling the side of his body while he adjusts the duvet over you.
Slowly, you relax against him, inhaling his scent, taking in his warmth and his strength. While youâve always felt a sense of peace and comfort around Leon, that feeling intensifies right now.
Even though youâre sick, this moment has never felt more⊠perfect.
Leonâs arm is around you, holding you close against him. Heâs kissing your hair and asking you if youâre okay every now and then. Beneath the duvet, your legs are nearly tangled in no particular shape or form. The air conditioning system is at the perfect temperature, and the movie doesnât need too much mental gymnastics which relieves your exhausted brain from all that studying.
âI think I did well on my midterm exams,â you murmur by his jaw.
Leon gazes at you, a twinkle in his blue eyes. Something proud and amazed. âReally? Thatâs my girl,â he kisses you fondly.
âYou keep kissing me like that and youâre going to catch my cold.â
He laughs, a low rumble in his throat. âI donât mind. Iâd compromise my immune system any time for you, baby.â
The way he says it, all smooth and low and in that husky voice of his⊠it has your tummy fluttering, and your heart racing in your chest. You donât know if itâs because of the fever, but you feel warm all over, especially around your face.
âShut up and kiss me again.â
Leon blinks at you, surprised by your straightforwardness. But youâre grabbing at the fabric of his shirt, tugging him down towards you, and then youâre slotting your mouth against his own in a kiss that has you feeling breathless already.
To hell with your cold being contagious.
Leonâs lips move against yours after heâs mildly startled by you, his hand coming up to hold your cheek as he kisses you. He doesnât push you nor prod you further, even though you sort of want him to.
When you deepen the kiss, he groans, a low sound in his throat that spurs you on even more. You encourage him to kiss you more and more, until the movie just becomes background noise and you and him are heavily making out in your bed.
When you reach for the hem of his shirt, however, Leonâs hand wraps around your wrist gently, stopping your movements. Pulling away, you gaze at him, seeing his dilated pupils and his kiss-swollen lips. Heâs so⊠adorable.
âI donât want to push you into anything youâre not well enough to handle,â Leon murmurs, his voice raspy and almost hoarse. âYou need to rest, Y/NâŠâ
âBut I want to kiss you,â you almost whine at him.
He just smiles, fond and affectionate. âThen you can kiss me. But anything further will have to wait until youâre all feeling better, okay?â
You know that heâs making a compromise you canât resist. Because one, he gets to take care of you for the entire evening, and two, you get your fair share of kisses from him without any complaint whatsoever.
So you nod.
âWell then, you better nurse me back to health so we can get on with it.â You say almost jokingly.
But with the heat in Leonâs gaze, you know heâs about to take you up on that offer.
âWith pleasure.â
Then, he dives right back in, claiming your lips with his own in a kiss that speaks of a tender love and affection that is more than enough to make you feel all better.
Leon isnât just your boyfriend.
Heâs also your best friend, your confidant, and your nurse off duty for when you arenât feeling your best. And rest assured heâs there to take good care of you when you arenât feeling your best. Thatâs just how he is, especially towards you.

thereâs something so special to me about patrick ballâs portrayal of langdonâs return from rehab. heâs talked about how heâs dealt with addiction and i see so much care in his work.
season 1 was so fascinating but in contrast to his acting decisions in season 2 itâs even more so. imagining frank as a crab in a cold water pot, and how slowly things must have changed and so much of what he hid, itâs no wonder robby (maybe) blames himself but has pushed him so far away and doesnât want him around to remind him of his âfailureâ as a mentor (he didnât fail but he didnât see it).
some people anticipated langdonâs return to be filled with defensive behaviour but he has ripped himself open to try desperately to engage with his steps. heâs actively engaging with the kind of ego death that can destroy a person. but heâs using it to try and stay healthy and make amends.
i donât know if whoever is reading this has ever had someone engage with you as part of their steps but his courage is truly remarkable. to continue in the face of the terror of not being able to âearnâ back your life and the love and respect of the people you care about can be one of the greatest triggers of relapse.
i just. think that patrick ballâs portrayal of frank langdon is being really undersold. itâs fucking incredible.
