A Little Temperamental

I'm a BIG fan of low ranking characters suddenly thrust into a position of authority they're unprepared for. a young princess, too far down the line of succession to merit any training, forced onto the throne when her whole family dies in one attack. a lowly technician on a team who finds themself the defacto leader when a mission goes wrong and every single person above them is captured or killed. a group of strangers comes together for survival, and the only person with any assertiveness gets assigned a leadership role, even though they have no special skills. do these characters rise to the challenge and lead their respective groups to victory? do they crash and burn under the pressure so hard no one ever trusts them again? do they massively restructure their whole society because any system that puts them in charge can't be doing things right?

just saw a pigeon doing the puffed up courtship dance thing to another pigeon, and as he was strutting around he suddenly stopped for a split second to do a very brief preen-peck at his own side, then returned to the strutting around. and i surprised myself by instantly losing respect for the male pigeon in that moment, like come on man i appreciate you had an itch or whatever but how is she supposed to feel special when you're getting distracted by bullshit like that? which on reflection i don't endorse, i mean those are pretty harsh dating norms i'm imposing on these pigeons, from a total outsider perspective, for no reason. probably not all girl pigeons are as uptight about that sort of thing as i would apparently be if i was a girl pigeon, maybe she even found it endearing who knows, i don't know her. it's none of my business really. sorry pigeons.

There's no identity that absolves you of harm, yes, sure, but I think more people need to hear that there's no gender or racial or sexual identity that makes you uniquely capable of harm.

of course i do it with all of my sleeper agents, too. i mean i do it with myself. it's important that your enemies all remember the "good" version of you who was genuine and interesting and funny and just so innocent. always really funny to put on her face for a few seconds at the climax of a fight and use the moment of hesitation for a single devastating attack.

it's important when brainwashing one of the hero's party members to think that it's someone else for some scheme or another that you make sure the new identity is a full and complete personality with its own loves, interests, and ambitions just because it makes the ethics of clean up really, really funny to watch.
