Edit: Part 2
So there's this fic, well it's not a fic, it's just the prologue, and it's evil, the whole story is gonna destroy me
Anyway, because author is busy my brain has been making its own version of what could happen with this premise:
So here's the basics as presented by Mx. quiteafewobsessions: Madame Morrible locked Glinda in her room so she couldn't go have a heartfelt goodbye with Elphaba, Chistery is killed so he can't deliver Fiyero's note, and Elphaba breaks down because she just found out she's pregnant and she's got no one; so when the mob arrives she's not playing the role of the Wicked Witch, she's having a panic attack, and since Dorothy is a very sweet girl she feels bad for this sad woman who is in a very vulnerable state, and prevents the mob from killing her so instead Elphaba is dragged to the Emerald City and presented to the Wizard.
This is where the prologue ends and when my story begins: if you paid attention you might notice that Fiyero still became a scarecrow and still followed Dorothy and Co, and he's probably with the mob watching the love of his life break down while he can do nothing because there's a fucking angry mob and he's made of straw. So I had an evil idea, (btw I presented it to author, I don't know what they're gonna do, but they do see my vision); the idea is this: Elphaba has been dragged to the Emerald City and placed on a cell (a nice cell like the ones they use for white people who get into fights, because the Wizard and Morrible still want to use her), Fiyero, finally, FINALLY has the chance to talk to her in private, it goes like this:
"Elphaba"
She looks at him, there's no light in her eyes which hurts like hell
"How do you know that name?" she asks
"Because it's me love, it's your Fiyero, I'm alive, you saved me and I'm gonna get you out of here"
She looks at him for a moment, her expression unchanging, and she says with no emotion on her voice:
"That's cruel"
Fiyero is confused
"To use him like this, to toy with me feelings. He's dead, I killed him, and try to give me false hope is cruel"
"NO! No, no, Fae, no; it's me I swear, I can prove it, I---" guards arrive and he has to leave.
This isn't how this was supposed to go, she was supposed to see him, to know him, to love him, but she is too broken to believe in him right now; and it kills him to see his precious Fae like that, empty. He tries as few times, but has to stop eventually, not because she told him to leave her alone (I mean she does but he ignores her) but because Madame Morrible didn't like the Scarecrow coming to see her prisoner, and Fiyero absolutely does NOT want to get in Morrible's bad side
So Elphaba is in prison, the Wizard and Morrible are trying to use her powers for their own gains, Fiyero is desperate, Glinda is desperate, Dorothy is stuck in Oz, everything sucks and they don't even know about the baby yet!
So the baby; obviously someone's gonna notice Elphaba is pregnant eventually, and fucking Morrible is practically salivating, there's so much evil shit she can do with this: if the baby is magical she can use it as a tool, she can raise it to hate Elphaba just to torture her, she can just study the baby like an experiment, even if the baby isn't magical she can use it as leverage. This is terrible news for Elphaba and her baby. I picture Morrible suggesting she's gonna use the baby and Elphaba getting furious and protective, showing proper emotion for the first time; I can also picture Morrible offering Elphaba abortion medicine just to see how she reacts, she gets defensive and weird; I think it's really cool that Elphaba doesn't want to bring this child into the world to suffer, but she also doesn't want to kill it, so she's kinda stuck, and crazy, and when Morrible is like "take this, get rid of the problem" she's like "fuck you" more as a defiance than because she wants to have this baby; but that actually pleases Morrible because it's more useful to her alive (bitch)
And now, it's the fact that there's no way Elphaba's pregnancy is gonna stay secret; the guards are gonna spill the beans the moment they can because the Wicked Witch of the West being pregnant is salacious and gross, like who would willingly fuck her? Also what kind of horrible monster is gonna come out of her cursed womb? The Wizard would do good to just kill the creature before it's even born
I don't think this is good for any of our protagonists; Elphaba being in prison is thankfully spared from the worst Oz has to say about her baby, but she does hear the guards talk about her child as if it were a wicked monster (which she doesn't entirely disagree with). Fiyero though, he does have to hear all of Oz call his child evil, a wicked seed, a monster, and crying for their death; and he can't still do anything because he's supposed to be a Scarecrow, he's not supposed to care for the witch of her wicked spawn; he is dying inside, the love of his life is broken, his child is the most hated baby in Oz before it's even born, and he has to pretend he doesn't care. But thankfully Dorothy comes to the rescue again, you know with her own trauma, because as previously established she is a very nice girl, she cannot comprehend how can a baby be evil, specially before it's even born; so the Ozians declaring it's a good thing that this baby should die makes her angry, she tells people off, and they shut up (in front of her), and she wonders if Ozians really are that good, and if the Wizard who encourages this is that wonderful (Fiyero uses Dorothy's position as a way to let out his pain and anger at Oz)
Now this is the wake up call for both Glinda and Boq. Boq might be an asshole but he's not heartless enough to kill an innocent child, he thinks if he had followed up with his plan not only he would kill Elphaba he'd kill her child too; but most importantly he sees himself in Oz, in the way they cheer for the murder or an innocent baby because of who their mother is, it makes him sick. Worse yet, he starts to actually hear what people say about Elphaba; they talk about her as if she were a monster, but he knows she isn't, he knew her, she was just a girl, person like anyone else, and makes him reevaluate his feeling on her. Glinda, meanwhile, has finally realized how sick the system she works for is; she honestly believed she could still make things right, convince Elphaba to work for the Wizard and Oz would accept her and she would help her raise her baby, and they would be happy, and everything would be good; but no, the rot is deep, the systems is not just flawed, it's broken, Glinda has helped created an Oz that will kill a baby just because they were told their mother is evil, and she can't just stand there, she loves Elphie and by extension she loves her and Fiyero's baby, something needs to be done but she can't; she's no longer locked in her room, but she not allowed anywhere near Elphaba and she has guards on her at all times, and she is so alone! I wish Fiyero was here
At this point the plot starts to kick off, first idea I had was that Fiyero is revisiting his original plan of faking Elphaba's death and fleeing Oz; the death faking part is complicated, but he does go back to plan leaving Oz; he goes to his old room in the Wizard palace, it's been vandalized since he was declared a traitor, but they didn't take anything important, so he grabs all his maps of Oz, of what known from outside Oz, and blueprints of the Emerald Palace to plan Elphaba's prison break. As mentioned Glinda is on a short leash, but she can still go to Fiyero's room to try to find some spiritual help or something to try to fix this mess; and she runs into the Scarecrow, with Fiyero's maps, deep in thought and taking notes, Fiyero did not expect Glinda to be here, they look at each other in shock, and he's like "Glinda" and it clicks; and unlike the other AU she's not mad at him, actually she's very happy he's alive because Elphie needs you, and I need you and I don't know how to make things right! We'll work something out.
Next I was thinking I really like the fics where Dorothy figures out the Scarecrow was a human and he cared about the witch, this is good for this AU, but then I thought, "hey what if Boq figures it out too? The pieces are there" So Boq figures out Scarecrow is actually Fiyero, and by now he's feeling like shit for helping make the angry mob and feelings sorry for Elphaba (he hasn't really forgiven her yet, but he's sorry for her) so he's sympathetic towards Fiyero; and naturally he figures:
"Wait, Elphaba's child...."
Fiyero doesn't answer and looks away sad
"Are you okay?"
Fiyero looks at him, his burlap sack face pure desolation
"All of Oz wants to kill my baby Boq" and unfortunately he can't cry anymore, and he really, really needs it
And oh my god, the surviving members of the Charmed Circle are on the same page now. So Glinda, Boq and Fiyero are now plotting how to free Elphaba and, I don't know, do something afterwards, it's fuzzy, no one has any idea what to do next. Also I imagine Fiyero telling Glinda that they know Tin Man "he used to date Nessa" Glinda gasps, covers her mouth with her hands "Bick!". Next mental image is Glinda saying that Morrible wants Elphaba's baby for her own evil deeds and Fiyero is like "NEVER. That bitch is not getting her filthy hands on my child"; also Boq makes an off-hand comment about Elphaba's "son" and Fiyero is like "she's having a boy?" "didn't you know?" Of course they don't, Morrible is gonna keep all Elphaba related stuff from Glinda and she doesn't like the Scarecrow very much, so no, they don't know shit; Boq does because he's been useful so far and she kinda likes him, I kinda want Elphaba to be shocked when Boq says anything about her son because the idea that Boq knows more about Elphaba's pregnancy than Elphaba does is kinda sick and I love it. Also, btw, Ultrasounds haven't been invented yet, but Morrible knows shit because of magic
Dorothy is also kinda in it because she's smart; she's pretty sure Scarecrow used to be human, and she's pretty sure he cares about the Witch (because he was kinda defending her on the way), and she knows it takes 2 people to make a baby, and she knows Scarecrow is very sad and angry whenever people start calling the Witch's unborn child a monster and wicked; she doesn't know Fiyero, so she doesn't figures Scarecrow is him, but she does figure Scarecrow must be the father of the Witch's baby, and frankly right now she's ready to take the Witch's side, Ozians suck. Lion is also in it; I like the idea that he's also a child not much older than Dorothy, and he and Dorothy are a team, and he's figured Scarecrow is the other person who saved him, and can extrapolate he's the Witch's lover
I don't know what to do next because the story wants to go off the rails and turn into another AU with an armed rebellion against the Wizard, and I'm not sure about that. I do want to have random people willing to help the Charmed Circle and Dorothy because some already hated the Wizard and some saw Oz calling for the dead of an unborn child and went "Are we the baddies?"
Fiyero's family is off the picture because they cannot afford to defy the Wizard for a bastard son of a traitor and a Wicked Witch, even if it kills the Queen having to sacrifice her first grandchild (thankfully she wont, I don't think her oldest daughter would speak with her ever again)
Two days passed since Elphaba and Fiyero left Oz. Now, they walked in the desert, finding food for her every now and then. But they still couldn't find a house for them to sleep in.
Then, she saw it- a small hut that seemed to be abandoned by its owner, with a little garden at the back. The two started walking faster towards the place, until they heard someone approaching. It was a familiar metallic sound, that made Elphaba want to cover her ears. It was also a constant reminder for her last visit before her sister got crashed by that awful house- a thing that she'll never forgive Glinda, Morrible, and the Wizard for.
She decided to turn around. She should at least try and explain the situation, even if she knew he wouldn't believe her and think her a liar. And yet, she didn't know what to say at the moment. She knew the tin man wanted to kill her and convince Fiyero to join him.
So instead, she asked:"How'd you find us?"
-@elphaba-thropp-00358
There they were -- the wretched, despicable, Wicked Witch and the traitorous Scarecrow, walking together, hand-in-hand. If the Tin Man had had a real, bloody heart, it would have become stone cold and dropped to his stomach. He tightened his grip on the handle of his axe. But he didn't move it.
"I had my sources," the Tin Man answered coldly. Then, to the Scarecrow, he asked, "Where do you think you're going?" He gave the Wicked Witch a glare. "Explain yourself."
Elphaba expected that answer. She wondered what were those sources, but she knew she wouldn't get any answer about that.
She knew that after everything Fiyero tried to do in order to save her, his other companions would feel betrayed, but she didn't expect one of them to follow the duo. She also didn't understand why must she explain herself to a man who wants to kill her.
"... Why do I have to explain myself to you?", she asked. It felt weird to talk to Boq with such coldness, but she knew that he was gone.
The Tin Man scowled. "You made me like this. You stole my companion. And you caused destruction all throughout Oz." Hate surged within him. To think the Wicked Witch was still without an ounce of remorse. "Well, go on." He didn't expect an answer he could believe, but he almost wished she wouldn't answer. He wanted to kill her terribly, but he didn't want to kill an innocent woman.
She listened to him. Those were false accusations to her. She didn't steal anyone. She was chosen by him at the night of the wedding. She wanted to save all the Animals and prove that the government of Oz is not to be trusted. Although she misarably failed while doing so. Last but not least, she wanted to save Boq from the spell that Nessa casted, during her craze.
'I guess I really need to explain all that. He wouldn't believe me...', Elphaba thought.
"Fine", she said. "That's fair... Where do I start? Right... I'm going to start from the very start. When I went to the Wizard for the very first time, I realized he was the one who was responsible for all this Animal abuse, along with Morrible. That's why I've been causing destruction, as you like to call it.
"The Scarecrow had faith in me, even before he was transformed. We saved the cub from the cage together. Although, we didn't think about the consequences. We just wanted to release the cub, so I'll take the blame for your other companion, The Cowardly Lion. After that incident, my friendship with the Scarecrow has strengthened. That's why he chose to leave with me.
"As for you, tin man, I suppose you cannot forget how my late sister was deeply obsessed with you. I was there with her during your confession, because she missed the times at Shiz. Especially at the Ozdust, so I made her float, in order to see her smile again.
"But, once she was rejected by you, she was crazed. She stole the Grimmerie, and tried to find the perfect spell to bind your heart to her. I tried to stop her, as she misread the spell and thus, made your heart shrink. You were about to die, and since spells from the Grimmerie cannot be reversed, I turned you into tin, in order to save you from dying", Elphaba finished explaining.
The Tin Man made no movement to nod or discourage as the Witch made her excuses. Although... he could believe Morrible and the Wizard had done as she said. There had to be an explanation for what was happening, after all, and if he said Morrible and the Wizard were without suspicious and intimidating demeanors, he would be lying. He supposed he had reasonable doubt to believe maybe something else was happening that he didn't know about.
But the Scarecrow? He had believed in the Tin Man. He had trusted him, and he felt betrayed that the Scarecrow had hidden this from him. Despite still not believing the story fully, he was a little bit embarrassed that he had behaved as he did when the Scarecrow's belief had gone so directly against such actions. Whether the Tin Man himself could believe in such delusions, he couldn't tell for sure, but he knew he would have tried to listen if the Scarecrow had made any attempt whatsoever to be a little more transparent about his motives. He didn't have to choose the Witch. He could have chosen the Tin Man.
But he could not forget Nessa. That much was true. And now, he was sure, he hated both of them. He could have been so different.
"What if I didn't want to be saved?" he asked. "Look at me. Look at me and tell me you really think this is better than death."
She did not expect this answer, but this was understandable. To live forever in a body made of tin did sound horrible. He wasn't wrong about that.
She shook her head.
"You are right. This is not better than death", she said. "There is a solution to this, though. I gave the Grimmerie to Glinda the Good before faking my death. I believe she has the sources to help, unless you don't want her help as well".
The Tin Man thought for a moment. "Fine."
He looked from Elphaba to the Scarecrow, careful not to betray his wanting. He hadn't said anything, but he was beginning to feel lost, and the thought of returning to Oz only stirred some kind of indifference within him.
"Why didn't you stay and help fix everything?" He asked instead. "You've always been much stronger than Glinda. Are you angry at her?"
She thought. There were things that Glinda did that did fill her with strong hatred. She still couldn't forget how she gave Nessa's shoes to that foolish girl from Kansas, right after Nessa died, and it made her think that Glinda was responsible for Nessa's death. But that wasn't the reason why she did it.
She shook her head. "No", she said. "Someone needed to be wicked in order for her to learn what it's like to be truly good. They have more faith in her. Plus people would think I'm scheming something anyways."
She understood why he was asking that. Unlike Glinda, she was born with magic. It was always a part of her, and she knew how to control and use it, after training with Morrible and on her own, when she was declared as a 'threat' to the Ozians. But at that point, she was tired of showing her love to the land that didn't love her. She wanted to rest her tired soul and have some peace.
'Those thoughts make me feel so old. But that is the truth', she thought.
What really went on between Elphaba, Glinda, and the Wizard was beyond the Tin Man's comprehension. But he could understand the concept of needing darkness in order for there to be light. And he himself knew he did not fully trust Elphaba, and yet he did not fully trust Glinda either. They had both been scheming something. To think that all this time he had only been a pawn in their game. Although he doubted whether he could have been much help, he selfishly wished he had been more than that. But after all, he had been so cruelly disfigured and cursed -- didn't he deserve to have a place at their conflict, at the very least?
In any case, it was all over. The Tin Man couldn't do much about it now. All that was left was to deal with the aftermath. He asked Elphaba, "...Well, what do you plan to do now?"
She thought. What did she plan to do now, other than spending the rest of her life in the lands that were beyond Oz, with or without Fiyero? Nothing, at the moment. She was aware that most things were temporary, and so was her will to return to Oz at the moment. Her relationship with Fiyero as well, but she shouldn't think about it right now, and hold this love and appreciation dearly to her heart.
"For now, I'm going to live in the lands that are beyond Oz. What about you?", she asked. After all, Dorothy 'killed' her. She didn't know what happened with the Wizard and Morrible, but if she knew that the quest to the Emerald City was over.
The Tin Man was taken aback for a moment. He had just realized.
"Well... I just planned to find you and Scarecrow." He thought about the act of swallowing a lump in his throat, but of course he could do no such thing. "You're all I truly have left."
For the first time in this conversation, Elphaba was speechless. She understood why the Tin Man counted Fiyero as the only person he had left. They shared a bond, even back at Shiz. But why did he count the person whom he wanted to kill the most after what she did to him, as one of the only people he had left? Also, what about the Cowardly Lion?
"What about...the lion?", she asked.
"The lion?" the Tin Man repeated. "He's been kind to me. I'm fond of him. But he'll die before I do, I suppose. And something about all of this feels like the end of the road."
He raises his hands slightly. They do not shake, although he supposed they once did, once upon a time, when they weren't so stiff and numb. To know something like the back of my hand, the Tin Man thought off-handedly. It was a funny saying. He didn't know if there really was anyone who knew what the back of their hand looked like all that well. Even now, the Tin Man struggled to remember exactly how they felt, how soft they were, how they could feel all the threads in his bowtie when he used to fiddle with it. Where all the freckles were. But he knew all those things had existed at one point, and it was gone now.
"Is this all I'll ever be?" the Tin Man wondered aloud. "All this time, was this my fate?"
He almost wanted to laugh very coldly, very shortly, but he couldn't bring himself to it. He could see his own garish face reflected on the back of his hand. All the details in the metal. From time to time, he remembered something about Fiyero, and he did now -- Fiyero used to have some extra rings in his possession, and he liked to let Boq borrow (ask Boq to wear) a few of them. There was no need now. His whole body was shinier than any of those damned rings would ever be, the embellishment on his fingers welded into his very making.
"That makes sense", she agreed after hearing his explanation. The lion was indeed a mortal creature, unlike the Tin Man and the Scarecrow.
As she heard his questions, she thought to herself. 'Was it truly Boq's destiny all along?', she thought and then reminisced the past. The only mistake Boq ever made in Shiz, was to agree to ask Nessa to be his partner at the Ozdust, in order to impress Glinda. Of course, Elphaba could turn him into a different being that wouldn't need a heart during that awful day, but he wouldn't be happy again. She could also leave him to die, which would Be extremely heartless of her, but then Nessa would be mad at her.
But the Tin Man was right. This was worse than death. She knew it was also because of him being there for her after the death of Elphaba and Nessa's father, but that's what friends are supposed to do.
"No... If things were done differently, it wouldn't be", she said.
If things were done differently? The Tin Man turned it over in his head. Was it Elphaba's fault? Was this a form of an apology for the consequences she hadn't expected when she had made all the decisions she did? But...Was it Boq's fault, then, that things had turned out the way they were? It made sense, somehow, and suddenly he could faintly hear the sound of Boq's voice without the words, and he understood in his nonexistent heart what he had said to a doe-eyed, anxious Nessa; to an uneasy, sorrowed Fiyero; to a resigned Glinda.
"What would we have done?" asked the Tin Man. Because he truly did wonder, for after all, what could they have done differently?
Suddenly it wasn't so hard to imagine it anymore. Boq had lived and died so the Tin Man could pull himself up from the edges of dented tea trays and wrangled spoons, crawl from his sorry insignificance into this twisted creature, this cursed existence. Every time Boq had laughed, every time Boq had jumped to his feet, every time Boq had dropped his books, stumbled over a word, told someone he liked them, tied a bowtie around his neck before running off to the Ozdust -- it had all been done, and the Tin Man had been built into existence. That was how Boq was, and there was no other way he could have been, and this was what it all meant in the end. He couldn't remember if Boq ever imagined what his future would be like, and perhaps that was why everyone had gone the way that they did. The Tin Man had never had hope, not even in the beginning. It was heartbreaking.
But alas, he didn't have a heart to break anymore.
"Boq could've rejected Glinda's offer to be with Nessa at the Ozdust, just for the sake of impressing Glinda", she started. "Nessa could've been less obsessive about him. Although, it's understandable why she acted like that. She's been mostly coddled and infantilized most of her life, due to being disabled, and she rarely met people who didn't pity her for that. But it doesn't mean that her actions are defendable.
"As for me, I'm not sure if ignorance would be a better option." On the one hand, it could've taught her a lesson, a twisted one, about obsession and its effects on other people. On the other hand, seeing Nessa losing another person that was dear to her would make Elphaba feel remorseful for not intervening. She also didn't want Nessa's dislike towards her to grow.
The Tin Man nodded. Nessa had been kind to him in the past. He had valued her, although he knew that he had never valued her for more than a friend. He regretted having treated her as an object to impress others -- if he could have never loved her the way Nessa believed he would, he could have at least loved her as a person.
"Tell me about what you found out," the Tin Man told Elphaba. "What you were planning to do."
"... I was told that the captain of the guards of the Wizard's castle liked birdwatching. The Grimmerie opened itself and stopped at a page where there was a spell that could give wings to others. I started reading, without knowing what I was actually doing. After I finished, the monkey, Chisterie, screamed in pain as wings grew from his back. I stated that and Madame Morrible said that the spell was irreversible, since it's from the Grimmerie.
"She also told the Wizard that they now had spies in the sky, after I opened the doors and saw that the other monkey guards also had wings. I was furious. I also tried to make the Wizard to read from the Grimmerie, but he didn't do anything. That was the moment where everything clicked. I realized that the both of them were behind the sudden disappearances of the Animals and their inability to speak, and that the Wizard wasn't even a wizard because he can't read the ancient language in the Grimmerie. I told them that they could've hired their own spies, instead of using me like that, and stormed out of the main hall.
"At some point, when I was at the attic, Glinda tried to reason with me, but I stood my ground and we had a big fight about it. She was about to join me, but she ended up staying. It didn't surprise me, really. It disappointed me. After that, I flew to the woods, and I suppose you know what happened after that", she finished telling about her first meeting in the Emerald City.
She knew that the part about the book sounded stupid. Although, it was a magical book. It's not surprising that it is able to open itself.
It was a stupid question, especially after having heard so many important things all at once, but the Tin Man had to ask. "Why didn't you go back to Shiz? You had a sister and friends. Nessa and Fiyero could have helped you. I could have helped you. Or at least listened." But he didn't say Elphaba had been wrong for what she did. Animals losing their ability to speak. Munchkins forbidden from travelling without passes. Monkeys with wings in the sky. The world, as Boq once knew, had gone off the rails, and it might still be in the process of going further off the rails. What was Elphaba, or indeed any of them, to do? And it was hard to tell what the truth was anymore when everyone was at least a liar, or part of one. "I suppose you thought you were independent. But you didn't have to be alone."
He was right, in a way. She could've asked for help. She could've told about it to someone, instead of leaving. But was it worth the possible risk of getting caught? Was it worth it to put her friends in danger and make them public enemies as well? She knew she wouldn't be able to ask Nessa for help. Their father died at the time, due to shame. Elphaba wasn't willing to come to the funeral as well, since her dad hated her.
"I couldn't ask Nessa. Our father died while I was defamed by Morrible. Plus, if I were to ask you and Fiyero, the three of us would risk our safety at the process. I could get caught, if someone saw me, and the two of you would become public enemies as well. That is, unless you'd be willing to take such a risk".
Public enemies... it was easy to say it hardly mattered anymore, now that everyone was an enemy to somebody else. Now that it was only a choice between enemies of the public and enemies of the kind of meaning the Tin Man never wanted to antagonize. But wasn't that why Nessa did everything that she did? Because to her, that meaning was about the way things used to be? The way the Tin Man used to be?
"I think we can agree," the Tin Man said slowly. "That we deserved better. All of us."
But what did that matter now? What were they to do? The Tin Man knew they had reached the end of the road, whether it was a road he had wanted to take in the first place, and now he resented the idea that things were all over. For him. For Boq. And for all the people he had held so dear to his heart, although he had done nothing to save them.
"I wish we could start over. From the beginning." He couldn't meet the depths of Elphaba's eyes fully, but he did look at her, and he did mean what he said, even if he didn't believe it could be done. "It doesn't matter if nothing changes. But I want to live again. I miss Glinda and Fiyero. I..." The Tin Man trailed off. He still had a faint idea of what Shiz had been like, just little snippets of memories and the strains of voices and watered-down colours. He made no smile, no frown, no expression, and he didn't even tilt his head even though he knew he used to do it often. "...Didn't you wear glasses once?"
Elphaba nodded. It's true that every member of their former happy and silly friend group did deserve better. "Indeed", she said. "We all do".
"Maybe, in another world, in another life, we're still happy", she said. The concept interested her. How things could go if they existed in a different world, as different people. She wasn't sure if their problems remained the same in the different world as well, though.
"...I miss her too", she said. She missed Glinda so much, but she knew that it would be better if she didn't come back to see her. As much as she missed Glinda, she didn't want to go through the hatred of the public ever again, and she didn't want to drag her friend down with her as well. She also missed her sister. Despite everything they went through, Elphaba missed Nessa, her sweet little sister who wanted to become her own person.
"I did", she answered. She took them back from Shiz at the middle of the night, but she doesn't use them that much anymore. She didn't feel the need to do so, or that's what she liked to think, instead of trying to avoid the events that they reminded her.
Here's my designs of the main four in my little AU
These designs are essentially how they all look post Wizard of Oz and for Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion, after the events of Return to Oz. This’ll also involve a good bit of info-dumping too. Some of the doodles here are either digital or hand-drawn.
Can we see some art of Bodyswaped Fiyero-crow and Tin Boq? I kinda wanna see if Boq would try using his chin to move.
Sure lol

Got into the wizard of oz/ wicked fandom
(Bit hard to see but they’re in a forest, I reposted a clearer version)
(Wicked spoilers):
Ended up finishing this in time for the final chapter. Congrats @seraphimankh for completing your story, each update's been a journey!
I'm going to Creature-fy Fiyercrow and you can't stop me
He still needs to eat, just not people food, he needs to eat fabric, yarn, straw, wood (the movie gave him teeth so I'm just going to say they're really light blocks of wood), and other components that make up his body. If he doesn't eat he WILL start to slowly fray and waste away.
He ages but in a way that is different an imperceptible to a human. He starts to notice that his body is starting to look faded/sun bleached despite all the work he does for the upkeep. He's fraying in some places, dull in others. (Suddenly he has hopes that maybe he won't outlive Elphaba and can die with her.)
(Straw is pointy and uncomfortable as hell on bare skin) when he gets scared or angry the sharp points of the hay inside of him begin sticking out of the pores/holes in his burlap skin like quills. Sometimes if he is worked up he will puff up to be a little bigger but won't start sprouting hay quills.
When he is happy the straw inside of him rattles around and creates a light hissing or purring sound. (He finds this out a little later because dude was stressed as hell.)
He has entirely new forms of mobility that would have been impossible as a human with bones and joints that only move in certain ways. He can wrap his arms around things like a snake, same with his legs. (I bet Elphaba would have fun with that.)
The clothes that he died in are now a part of his body (essentially the clothes kind of act like covers but they are still a part of him so I guess he's just walking around being indecent now lol) and the hems of his clothes grow continuously like finger nails or hair and need to be maintained i.e.: trimmed back and re-hemmed every so often.
I like to think he discovered some of this on his journey with Dorothy like puffing up like a cat when he was startled or frustrated. But I like to think that he and Elphaba learned that he could purr during a cold night in the impassable dessert cuddled up under the stars.
Image: they're snuggled up together and then suddenly it sounds like grass rustling in the wind and none of them can figure out for the life of them where it's coming from until Fiyero sheepishly says "I think it's coming from me."
On a less fluffy note I think they also started figuring out that he needed to eat fabric and yarn and what not on the journey. It's a scary sequence of him starting to suffer from his body's magic doesn't have on hand the materials it's needs for when parts of him weather away.

The other end of the dynamic duo, Tin Man!
This. This broke me a little bit.
Further notes (and spoilers) under the cut!
I think this might be one of my favourite tinboq designs! He kind of reminds me of the iron giant especially in the last image
I would like a fanfiction that combines the original premise of Oz with Dorothy being a young child (8-12 since it's her book ages and her movie age) and instead of 1900 it's like in the original book it's 1939 and Wicked. Dorothy is worried for aunty Em and Uncle Henri because not only is it the Great Depression and part of the farmhouse is here with her but she's worried because they're have been talks of a potential war (the movie came out in August 25th and the war started in September 1st) but she's worried that her Uncle Henri might be drafted and her aunt might go with them cause what if they think she's dead)
While walking down the Yellow Brick Road Scarecrow asks why Dorothy keeps saying they need to ration they're things? Asks why she's so worried about food? Why is she so insistent on not buying a new dress? You've already re sewn and cleaned those same clothes for the past month. Boq is made of metal and has no clothes, the lion is a lion and therefore does not need clothes, and I'm a scarecrow I can't take my clothes off.
Down the road he begins to realise that this child isn't as okay and innocent as she seems with all of her skipping and dancing with the way she looks out the corner of her eye behind her pigtails or re checks her basket Incase they dropped anything.
Imagine because of all the interruptions, being attacked, the road itself, and then the wizard being a fraud she takes longer to get home. Perhaps instead of two-three months in Oz she's there for two-three years. The shoes don't work and Dorothy believes she's just killed two women even though it wasn't her fault at the time(Elphaba is alive but she's still in hiding with Fiyero) and got kidnapped and locked in a basement and almost burnt alive. She thinks that now she's never going to make it home. But you have fresh food and clothes here do you really want to go back. She can't help but think to herself before snapping out of it reminding herself of Aunty Em and Uncle Henri.
Or if Dorothy does make it home her Aunt and Uncle somehow end up sending her back because not only has World War ii begun but now that America is a part of it and Kansas was essentially a training ground for USAAF bombers and fliers so when she's back in Oz she looks for Fiyero or Galinda and Explains what happened.
Fiyero didn't know a potential war was on the horizon in Dorothy's home world. If he had known would he have sent her back or would he have kept her in Oz even if it was against her will. He takes her to Elphaba and explains what happened and they managed to reach out to Glinda and help give her a proper education, she gets taller thanks to a proper diet, she's at least somewhat healthy thanks to available medicine and hygiene products in Oz. She's lived longer than she thought she would have in Kansas and a lot longer than she thought she would have here in Oz. A LOT longer.
Also potential Dorzma and realising that Oscar Diggs is a name of a guy that went missing a few decades ago that her parents and guardians talked about with their families because this guy with a hot air balloon disappeared in a storm and no trace of him can be found. Obvious propaganda against a coloured women and a selective group of people because I believe Aunty Em not Uncle Henri would've raised her that way. She still wants to meet the wizard in hopes of going home but she's still suspicious because of how she was raised in this au.
An AU where Tanjirou receives the memory of the demons with bits of Muzan's blood inside him and decided to write their stories.
Obviously the others were pissed off when they discovered this, but eventually they calmed down enough to listen to the stories.
Inosuke and Kanao still didn't forgive Douma, but they understood a bit of how he came to be what he was. Inosuke was secretly grateful that at least Douma saved his mother.
Zenitsu didn't react at Kaigaku's story at first, but he broke down when he visited his master/grandpa's grave.
Uzui started to take in young children from the Red Light District and eventually created a new ninja clan with the majority of the members were girls he saved.
Giyuu and Sanemi took the longest time to look at Tanjirou again after be told the the story of the Hand Demon ( who killed Sabito and the other children ) and Kokushibou. They said nothing but were willing to listen at the end of the day.
Tanjirou cried at Akaza's story and prayed that he was forgiven.
Nezuko helped Tanjirou built a small graveyard for the demons in the mountain area. She planted beautiful flowers around Rui's and Daki's tombstone.
maybe it was a big misunderstanding, nath didn't take the opportunity to talk to you before acting :(( you are an amazing person marc, you shouldn't let anyone take away your spark
