like I do post primarily sapphic content and I know hot lesbian may cause ppl to blitz past the warnings but I like analyzing the text and have come to the conclusion that eorzea is not a great place for women and is not queer normative and thus that is the way I write it. so just. just a heads up.

@sisitosito so the way I'm thinking about this is basically that Lalafells have fairly rounded limbs and bodies generally that tend to gently taper a lot more than they bulge, which suggests to me there's likely fairly persistent insulating layer of fat sitting under the skin? Combine that with the overall body shape with a relatively long torso compared to the legs, not a whole lot of space for the shoulders but quite significant hips and I kind of feel like Lalafells would possibly be really good swimmers? Likely swimming with the whole body like seals and dolphins do rather than mostly with the limbs like earth-bound mammals tend to - using the arms more for steering than locomotion also seems like the kind of thing that wouldn't require all that much from the shoulders.

I think you could possibly also make the argument that Lalafells might be fairly resistent to colder temperatures for their size? Generally speaking, cold temperatures tend to favour larger sizes simply because in terms of sheer physics, heat retention is largely a question of surface area to volume, as the former is what radiates heat while the latter is what retains it - Lalafells however have a bit of the short, stocky, tapered sort of build that tends to reduce surface area; combine that with the implied possibility of an insulating layer of fat underneath the skin and there's a fair bit to hint that they might retain heat fairly well.

Of course, there's also factors that speak against either of these observations - the head isn't particularly streamlined, the neck is a bit too thin to incorporate the head in a seal-like swimming motion, and the ears are fairly big for cold climates. Or just the simple observation that a rather large contingent of Lalafells make their home in Ul'dah, arguably the hottest and dryest city-state in Eorzea. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
