Yesterday news about Supriya Ganesh being casted for the Netflix reboot of 13going on 30 sparked a wave of celebration across social media.
it also sparked a series of commentary I want to address here cause I have a little more space than X:
A small part of Supriya stans quoted the news with commentaries such as “fuck you Noah Wyle” or similar. I wish, I really do, that you would focus on celebrating Supriya’s successes instead of bringing into the narrative their former employer who mismanaged (to use an euphemism) their (not voluntary) exit from the show. It does a huge disservice to Supriya because instead of focusing on them you’re focusing on another person.
a whole lot of Noah Wyle? huckleberry? Robby? Stans are using the news to justify her exit from the show, in an attempt to absolve both NW and Scott Gemmill from the choice they made. I just want to point out that, besides the fact that it was a “creative decision” and that up until early march Supriya declared they were exited to read s3 scripts. After the news broke you proceeded to throw an avalanche of shit towards Supriya, calling them “talentless” and all sort of stuff to justify Gemmill and Wyle’s decision to axe her, and now you’re telling me she decided to go out to pursue this role. Well, you are confirming you were throwing excuses and attempting to justify what was (at best) a shady decision, mishandled from the start, just to defend the people who made the decision.
Now, I don’t think Noah Wyle is the bearer of every evil in the world. I do think the decision to get rid of Dr Mohan was pointless and stupid, and I think both Noah Wyle and Scott Gemmill are quite delusional and disingenuous to carry on production without taking into account a series of factors including fandom response (I’m not saying they should write the show to please the audience, I’m saying a different thing). I also think that one can be objective and recognize that they’re not above criticism instead of embarking in a crusade against the part of the fandom who’s upset their favorite is being written off. At best, I hope you learn to focus on the show and the characters you love instead of trying to crush good news from a former castmate.
here’s an idea: why don’t you get mad at the writers for gatekeeping crucial factors about Robby’s past, such as the fact that he wasn’t abandoned by his mother but she ended herself? Why should we know this information from an interview and not from the show itself?
