Or in that interview when asked who takes longer to get ready, Carlos says Charles, who is again surprised about how he would know that (lol), but Carlos follows up with an actually thought out response that it’s because of the hair, which means he just pays attention. Or on stage in Spain last year when Charles was trying to speak broken Spanish and Carlos just adds ‘jamón icónico’ at the end as an inside joke between them that he remembers two years later that the audience is also kind of coincidentally in on. Or Carlos immediately saying that Charles would choose South Africa as a historical GP and Charles is again a little befuddled but then is like yes that’s actually right.

And that Miami interview where you can just see how genuinely happy it makes them when they prove they know things about each other. Charles has become accustomed to Carlos knowing these things about him that he almost expects that Carlos knows his biggest musical inspiration (that he never talked about in an interview with Carlos as far as I remember unlike the architect/sportsman thing) and of course Carlos gets it right.

Also how Carlos genuinely likes Charles’ random quirks that Charles is kind of insecure about. Like the handstand, Charles says that it’s a shit hidden talent, but Carlos immediately follows with no, I wish I could do that, that’s so cool! Or how Charles is very explicit about him being a terrible dancer but for some reason Carlos is very charmed by his dancing.

I think it just makes Charles who can be insecure about certain things about himself and therefore more closed off to most people more comfortable around Carlos and feel like he likes him because of him and things that make him him. Like the number of times he just naturally starts dancing or singing in the challenges and videos and Carlos just keeps smiling at him or says that’s a good dance while really meaning it.

It also perfectly shows every time Lewis asks Charles to sing on stage and he just flat out refuses while laughing nervously (and Lewis then just laughs at him for not wanting to), while last year he started singing happy birthday to Carlos in Monza on his own in front of a whole grandstand. Or Carlos suggesting he plays piano on stage and at first is unsure but Carlos supports him and says I’ll play the guitar with you and Charles just goes okay then let’s play the piano.

That’s literally together or nothing, we come as a package moments just like they described it, that they would not feel comfortable doing that on their own but together it’s okay. Charles didn’t feel alone with Carlos in these situations that are not particularly his favourite, while this year literally being left alone to do the silly stuff in Silverstone on his own. He looked so lost, like what am I supposed to do here, who am I competing against?

Aw that’s such a sweetieful concept actually….it fits perfectly in with my rpf because I like to have Carlos be woefully in love with Charles just like irreparably besotted even when he thinks it’s entirely hopeless…..he’s Paying Attention he’s noting it down! The information is special to him he cares to retain it….he’s in LOVE ok and to be loved is to be known!!

Your last point about them not feeling so alone is so true as well I think very much with the sillier and more embarrassing media duties they found it comforting to be in a Duo and they were able to lean into their routine in order to get through it. Sometimes when they would be doing Funny Media Routine you would see tiny little moments where they’re almost checking in with each other and going, ok are you good in real life? Alright let’s keep taking the piss. Now sometimes they did NOT do that but sometimes it happened!
