Charles knew something was wrong the moment he looked up at the paddock screen. At first, he wasn’t paying attention. Then the broadcast cut to the Mercedes garage. And there she was. His precious Yn. Sitting comfortably between Kimi and Ollie. Kimi was handing her a drink while Ollie was offering her snacks. Yn looked delighted. Charles went pale.

“Charles?” Lewis asked. Charles pointed weakly at the screen. Lewis looked. “Oh.” The Ferrari mechanics followed his gaze. “Oh no.” Charles fell down immediately. The nearest mechanic shoved a chair underneath him before he could dramatically collapse. Lewis grabbed a cold cloth and pressed it against Charles’ forehead. “Stay with us.” “I’m trying.” “You’ll be okay.”

Across the garage, Alexandra appeared at record speed. She dropped to her knees in front of Charles. “Charles!” Charles grabbed her wrist. If anything, he looked even worse since his wife appeared. “Alexandra.” “No, don’t do this.” “If something happens to me-” “Nothing is happening to you.” “Everything I own goes to Yn.” Alexandra stared. “What?” “The cars, the properties, the watches, the yachts, my money and Leo. Everything. Especially Leo.” “CHARLES.” Lewis had to turn away because he was laughing too hard.

On the screen, Ollie was now helping Yn put on his team headset. Charles looked ready to pass away. Then Carlos appeared out of nowhere. “What happened?” Charles pointed at the screen again. Carlos looked. Immediately, he gasped. “Dio mio.” Finally. Someone understood Charles.

Carlos pushed Alexandra aside without a care. “Move, woman.” “Excuse me?” “He needs space. Not you, crowding around him like some crazy Leclerc-stalker.” Alexandra looked offended.

Carlos was already crouching beside Charles. “Amigo.” Charles nodded weakly. Carlos looked back at the screen. Kimi was showing Yn something on a tablet. Yn was smiling like the sun and Ollie looked far too pleased with himself. Carlos looked horrified. “This is serious.” “Thank you.“ Meanwhile, Lewis was openly laughing. “This is ridiculous.” “No, it isn’t,” Charles whispered.

On the screen, Yn leaned over to say something to Ollie. Both boys smiled instantly. Charles clutched Carlos’ arm. Carlos squeezed back. “I know, Sharls.” “No, you don’t.” “I do.” “No one understands my pain and suffering, Carlos.” Carlos looked at him with complete sincerity. “I understand.”

Across the paddock, Yn was having the best day of her life. The Mercedes mechanics adored her. The Haas mechanics adored her. Toto adored her. Kimi and Ollie were competing to see who could spoil her more. And she had absolutely no idea that several garages away, her brother was currently drafting his will because she hadn’t spent the afternoon at Ferrari.
