Samwell— we know him. he’s so reasonable. Extremely normal and level-headed in a very archetypal ‘the oldest sibling also has to be the parent sometimes’ way. Longspot had big plans for Samwell’s role in his personal machinations and when Samwell turned out to be a much more upstanding person than that and didn’t go along with his underhanded schemes, Longspot began to resent and lose patience with him, but couldn’t be openly hostile because of the huge impropriety of how that kind of vibe between a father and his direct heir would look. and also because can you imagine being mad at samwell. he’s so reasonable you’d look insane. Samwell also attended Biffmore, in a much more reasonable academic track than wealwell’s reposed standing program.

Blanewell— mild-mannered, one foot in Sam’s shadow. As the second son HUGELY idolized and looked up to Sam, but was always a little softer and weaker of will, so never managed to stand up to their father in quite the same way. resists passively rather than actively; when Longspot mounts the faux rescue mission/Straka hijacking plot to Zood, Blanewell can’t manage to fight back or join Samwell, but also holds out and refuses to ally with Longspot and Hatwell either, and just stays home and does not go to Zood. (Also, I still love that one comment someone made re: the blanewell/brycewell confusion, which is that Brycewell is blanewell’s new chosen name after coming out as nonbinary. so good. i’ve leaned into this, and i feel like after Longspot’s dead they feel more comfortable being themself.)

Roywell— This is, sorry, so profoundly influenced by the fact that there’s a Koopaling named Roy. In my head Roy is the biggest and burliest of the lot, not in a deliberate trained athlete way like Sam or Max but just naturally like that lol, and Longspot uses him for muscle and brute force—since he’s not super bright, but unlike also-very-stupid Wealwell he’s not completely insane, he’s easily swayed and manipulated by his father and more nefarious brothers (Hatwell). I’d spec him as a barbarian mechanically for sure lol

Hatwell— we know hatwell. fucking hate hatwell. Even Longspot probably has a lot of disdain for how infuriating and vindictive he is, but he ends up representing an opportunity for Longspot to get like, a do-over on what he wanted to be able to do with Samwell. Huge middle child energy, as is only appropriate i suppose, and kind of just a grade school bully mentality that he never grew out of.

Wealwell— So hot so solid. Not the only queer Gotch brother but the first one to come out in the open with it. Sam and Bryce and even Roy feel kind of protective over him hand in hand with that—yeah, he’s an absolute freak, but he’s my baby brother. Looks up to Samwell as a paragon of reason to which he absolutely cannot relate but massively respects, and chose to attend Biffmore because Sam made it sound so nice (and because he wasn’t really academically fit to go much of anywhere but was easily able to get legacy’d in in Sam’s wake hahaha). Wealwell is going to have the most ridiculously lavish wedding Gath has ever seen and be everyone’s favorite gay uncle. Longspot has tried to have him killed/send him to his death multiple times and it has never worked because he is truly so hard to pin down and freak flukes himself out of anything

Johnwell— By the time John was born their mother was already sick/maybe shouldn’t have been having kids anymore. the general attitude was that Johnwell was going to be the ~baby and for the first couple of years that was the life he lived, being pampered and given the youngest-child special treatment, but then of course Longspot is an ass who was like “well naturally we will have seven sons. kind of the whole thing is Seven Sons, it has thematic resonance and that was always my intention why did you think we’d just stop at six” so. 🙃 So when Maxwell was born John was SO salty because he didn’t get to be the baby anymore and he reacted really poorly to it as like, a 3-year-old or whatever, and that resentment has always kind of lingered within him. In my mind he’s the physically smallest Gotch brother, the closest to a rogue build that the Longspot team has, just kind of a weaselly weenie who maybe doesn’t 100% align with Longspot and Hatwell ideologically but can always be peer-pressured into doing nefarious stuff if it means his brothers Like Him Better and especially if it means getting one up on Maxwell. Since we don’t see him in the final battle in canon, my thought was always that he was down in the part of the fight that was happening on the ground/in Zumhara, wherever Mr Big Britches started at; and that Hatwell and Roywell confirmed died™ in the battle but that Johnwell never turned up alive or dead, no recoverable body, so Max &co. are moving forward as if he has also died but no one really knows for certain and he could just be missing in Zood somewhere. Would love to have him crop up in s2 with like partial amnesia as a surprise twist where he doesn’t remember who he is and is going by Johnny just like working as a mundane ranch hand or something but then when the party finds him they are able to jog his memory enough to extract crucial Longspot-related info out of him, you know, okay im in the weeds now

Maxwell— My booyyyyyyy I love him so much my poor pitiful seventh son. He should never have been born tbh and even so he should probably have been as weak and runty as John, if not moreso, but he was miraculously a huge and freakishly healthy baby almost as if by some supernatural force. Gotch mama didn’t live much longer past Max’s birth. Kind of like Samwell, Longspot had big plans for Maxwell’s role in his own life, as the prodigal Seventh Son™, that was the whole point of it, and so when Max proved himself to be STAUNCHLY morally upstanding, extremely enamored of/aligned with Cadswitch’s sentiments, and a bit of a rowdy, Longspot was lowkey furious with him and resented him immensely. hm it’s almost like your children are actualized humans on their own and don’t just get to be miniature minion playthings for you and what you want! Since Max was slightly savvier and stronger of conviction than Wealwell, rather than try to blithely send him to his death to get him out of the picture, Longspot instead just gave Max all the most miserable grueling grunt assignments that would suck to do. Longspot himself isn’t the seventh son, but he was not prepared for it to fully genuinely just skip a generation and come right back around.

Anything that you'd like to write but feel like you're unable to? - I am not good at suuuuper dark stuff. but very very rarely (but not never) I do get an idea and I want to like, shove it at a friend and be like "will you, Person Who Can Tap Into This In A Meaningful Way Unlike Me, please write this idea so that it can exist in the world but in like, a form that is good and actually doing the thing that it is" hahahaha

33. Give your writing a compliment. - i think/know that I am really good at writing dialogue. it is fun for me, which lends itself to then be a thing i do a lot, which then makes me better at it from practicing. i am really good at just making my little guys yap at each other hehe

35. Thoughts on writing challenges/contests. - I think it is so fun that there are so many things like this that people can do BUT they are often Not For Me. the external structure of it can be so super helpful as a construct for people. i am not those people. i need to move at my own pace 99.99999% of the time. but I LOVE watching other people play fun games like this and i love that people coordinate them it rules

37. Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you? - I tend to only research when I butt up against something mid-writing that I go "wait, I don't actually know how to represent this accurately." I LOVE fanfic research that involves a deeper dive into extant canon for the source material.. i am less fond of any like... real-world type of research like looking up science or history facts that i need to get right in order to not get um-actually'd in my fic comments lmao. i'm very vibes based and i acknowledge and accept this
