IT’S SO ANNOYING THAT PRES. NELSEN AND BY EXTENTION THE CHURCH AS A WHOLE IS SO TRANSPHOBIC AND YET SOMEHOW MANAGE TO SAY THINGS THAT IF THEY DIDN’T HAVE THEIR HEAD UP THEIR COLLECTED ASSES WOULD BE INCREDIBLE AFFIRMING AND STUFF! 

I cannot have a conversation with a man, which included a theoretical talk about going skydiving with a group of friends, without

a) someone estatically elbowing me and whispering VERY LOUDLY “you have a date!!”

and

b) being later asked if I am “husband shopping”

This cartoon reminds me of a response I received from the Office of the First Presidency (I was honestly shocked) to a letter I’d written. Included in it was this: “In response to your questions, simply put, there are frankly not answers to all of the questions we have or explanations for all of life’s situations. For reasons known only to God, we will probably not receive the answers in this life.” First I didn’t expect a response. Second, I wouldn’t expect any big changes announced in a letter to me. But this was a bit heartbreaking, is anyone asking? These are questions I asked in the letter: “If I stay true and endure to the end, what does heaven look like for me? In a Celestial world of couples and families, how do I fit in? Is the best I can hope for an eternity of servitude?” “Is there no blessing for me?” “Is there hope for us?” (meaning LGBTQ+ people). “How can God be the author of diversity and yet not account for it in His plan?” “I read the words that God’s yoke is easy, and I’ve laughed at the absurdity of that. But now I wonder, is it the Church’s yoke that is heavy?”

I think they’re good questions, decades of my life have gone by without an answer. How long is someone expected to forego happiness while waiting for an institution to answer basic questions?

I think it’s likely that within 20 years, all worthy church members will be eligible to receive the priesthood.
